I think you have deeply offended
And as for the theory that the odds of being gobbled are 'unfathomable' - 3 in 3 months is pretty kn fathomable - what part aren't you cluing onto??
On this side of the dusty land - your odds of becoming fish food are up.. WAY UP!!![]()
My understanding is that sharks don't like human as the fat content isn't high enough. Sharks once they have eaten take some time and energy to digest food and human flesh just doesn't cut it for them. How they can tell what our fat content is i don't know but maybe they can sonar some how. Not sure..
The shark shield for a surfer only works whilst sitting still so that the prob can sink into the water. Once you move and the prob comes up your defenseless again..![]()
Rod make no mistake, sharks will eat people, especially when the shark in question is a Kombi with fins and big fark off teeth. The main reason people make it back to the beach is due to intervention.
Big Whites like the ones that took Guesty at Rocko, Juicy at the Abs and Bob Bartle at Jurien make no errors when it comes to having a human snack. Even smaller 10-12ft units will be quite happy to finish the job like with the fella at Cott recently.
Conversely when their lunch is dragged away by a heap of splashing pests or explodes in a mass of bubbles from a ruptured hose or comes with a gobfull of fibreglass and fins, that meal gets put in the too hard basket.
You're fooling yourself if you think we are not food. And that's not to say that I agree with a cull, although I am getting closer to liking the idea under certain circumstances.
^^ Valid point and I don't have an answer.
I however don't agree with burleying up for days on end then having person after person jump into a cage with them whilst throwing out big chunks of fish on ropes and dragging that fish back towards the cage with people in it. Effectively they are tormenting the shark with food while swimming it towards people.
I also don't agree with towing things behind boats be it surfboards or foam cut outs in the shape of seals to get the whites to attack.
IMO this is just plain stupid getting whites to associate boats and people with an easy feed.
Thier brain may be small but i reckon they are a whole lot smarter than people think...
I didn't chose to have my encounters! ![]()
Freediving with white sharks is done quite often though, either by experts who understand them well enough or by thrill seekers...sometimes both.
I hope to do it one day, but we'll see. I wouldn't do it unless I thought I was experience enough to read their body language. It's easy to read other sharks body language but white sharks...I don't know.
Yeah i've seen quite a bit of footage of people diving with whites with no cage or sheild. Sure would get your blood pumping and i reckon you'd start to shlt if more than 2 decided to show up. ![]()
Have to have eyes in the back of your head.
Mate...that makes absolutely no sense. There are things called "congregation sites" where they tend to hang around for things like breeding, birthing and feeding.
Just because there are places where they are easy to find doesn't mean they are not endangered.
Take the endangered Blue Whale for example. Everyone knows there endangered yet there was a bunch of them down in Geograph bay last week. Just because there was a bunch there in one spot doesn't make them any less endangered.
Another example is the Northern Blue Fin Tuna which is critically endangered. Still, if you're privy to research data and know where to look, they wont be too hard to find.
Endangered doesn't always mean there is almost none left. It can mean that the numbers are low enough and the rate at which they are being killed is high meaning there is a seriously decreased chance of their population recovering.
It's common sense mate.

Condescending? You asked a question that has an obvious answer so you got an obvious answer. Don't blame me.
Anyone who's spent that much time at sea would surely know that fish species are not homogeneously spread throughout the ocean.
