What do we do about the boats.
It seems to me that they are tipping the boats them selves to get help.
More people will die if this keeps up and the pollies just keep arguing about it ![]()
If you were in power, what would you do?
Whatever Howard's policies were, go back to them. Offshore processing worked as reduced the boats to almost zero. Nauru I recall was used.![]()
Now over to the Loony Lefts for their counter to this.![]()
Edit: I recall offshore processing gave the refugees less legal access, rights, etc.
I'd remove Christmas Island from Australia and evacuate the place. Any boat people that turn up there are welcomed to it.
The place is costing the Australian taxpayers a fortune and they get absolutely nothing in return besides angst, heartache and huge bills as crappy little boats sail from Java about 300 kms to Christmas Island. None of them have any chance or any intention of actually sailing to Australia. Australia is about 6 times as far away.
It gives me the sh!ts when these boats are described as trying to get to Australia when they are doing nothing of the sort. They trying to get to a little rock in the middle of the Indian Ocean that somehow Australia got hold of.
A few options really, just needs somebody (a pollie) with the foresight to stand up and do it.
1 - halve the aid we give Indonesia until they fulfill their responsibiltiy and also demand they stop the corrupt officials that take the money off the boat people.
2 -everybody caught entering Oz not by the proper channels, (air or sea, Afgan, Sri lankan, English, US, doesn't matter) should be loaded on a plane and shipped back the nearest Refugee camp to their home country and the next in line in those camps, who have been waiting and applying by the proper channels, bought back on the same plane and thoroughly checked and vetted as to their authenticity. If they meet the criteria, welcolme aboard, otherwise back to their home country.
This Labor Party will send us broke and into third world status anyway. All we need is a civil war and they won't want to come here anyway.![]()

They are economic refugees they are having trouble in their country of origin to get work and earn a living. Just model what we do to to what the USA do at the mexican border.
This has nothing to do with the agreement we signed with the ONU on the political refugees!
^ Perhaps because they are 100's of KM out to sea, and none of them can swim? ARE YOU TROLLING MAN, or just stupid? Serious question.
Yep, dump Christmas island, off shore processing in Naru!
When you look at the most recent boat sinkings, they are closer to Indonesia then to us. I am all for saving people on the ocean but where is the indo navy? Why do we steam all the way over there instead of indonesia who are so much closer and can render assistance quicker!
Interesting point Jamd
How do we find out the boats in trouble ?
Isn't the responsibilty of the nearest vessell to render assistance ?
We could always tell the yanks there's a boat load of Terrorists heading for Barrow Island, they'd be looked after then ![]()
I also note this has become an issue just as the real facts of the Slipper and Thomson case are coming to light.
All a bit suss if you ask me , but then that would be a conspiracy theory
I would do a one favour for those brave arriving from Indonesia to Australia on windurfing boards (kites too included
)
free access without the needs for asylum camps procedure.![]()
Our little talk here demonstrates the success that Howard, Reith, Andrews, Morrison, and Abbott have had in the politicization of the Boat people "debate". They realized they were on a winner after the Tampa and they've never failed to blow the dog whistle that resonates in mainstream Australia. The FEAR of foreigners, the invasion from the north. Even the language......."Border Security"....it makes refugees on a boat sound like a threat to our sovereignty. "illegals".....not people, not refos but somehow not real people. And the whole terrorist link, even though it's totally mad, still gets brought up in conversation.
When you look at the many ,many issues that confront Australia the whole "boat people" thing is pretty overblown. Yes, people have died, that's a tragedy but the sight of Abbott and Morrison crying crocodile tears about the drowning of refugees just makes me sick. Nothing will make Abbott and co end this issue.....the more refugees that get on boats the happier they are.
This is the answer !!!!
We send our boats to get who ever wants to come here.
They sign a contract to work in any field we choose for five years .
In return they will be fed and housed on site ( near the job )
A small hourly rate would be paid say $8 ph or piece work rates for picking fruit etc .
This solves the asylum seekers problems and our problem of over inflated wages and lack of productivity .
The trade unions will have to just pull there head in and get over themselves .
News Flash from our Northern Area of Australia.....
The Australian Navy intercepted three boatloads of people off the North West coast of Australia.
This placed the Navy in an awkward position as the boats were heading not away from, but towards Indonesia.
Another surprise finding was that they were loaded with Australians who were all seniors of pension age.
Their claim was that they were trying to get to Indonesia so as to be able to return to Australia as immigrants and therefore be entitled to far more benefits than they were receiving as legitimate Australian pensioners.
The Navy it is believed gave them food, water and fuel and assisted them on their journey north.
We are booking the next boat out, let me know if you want to come too.
