These bogan toys need to banned from popular beaches. I know a bogan who has one - he's a knob. I reckon only knobs are attracted to them.
Maybe only have registered rescue people on them or people who use them for other highly regulated purposes - ie tow in surfing, fishing, exploring - as long as it's far offshore and not within earshot of other regular beach goers.

If there is anything good to come out of this tragic event, I'd like to see laws come in that makes tearing up and down our beautiful beaches on these knob machines a thing of the past.
Has anyone got any suggestions on good places to start voicing my strong objections. If I have one legacy it would be to get rid of these things from our beaches. I'd be happy to be the Laurie Levy of Jetskis.
Carefull, next it will be dog owners trying to ban kiters...
Oh this is already happening ![]()
Let's all ban each other, wrap ourselves in bubble wrap and never leave the house.
Let's ban people talking about bans so other groups can't use some of our own stupid comments against us...
Totally agree adolf , Those things are a horrible blight on our waterways , and that tragedy was bound to happen . Unless tight controls are put in place more will occur.
As far as where to start ? Registration = vic roads
Police = water police
Waterways = parks Victoria
Legislation = local members
If you can spend some of your valuable time to slow these knobs down and or stick them in designated knob head zones in the middle of no where .
95% of the population will be forever in debt to you .
Agree adolf. What is off shore distance now? It was 200m before you could exceed 5knots.
If its not already 400 or 500 meters off shore, that would be a good start.
One minor problem with this ban concept... If you squish skis out of existence, it will probably just open up a market of micro speed boats or Jet Boats. Sorry to be negative, just throwing in some thoughts....
There would not be a problem if the current set of laws were enforced, when was the last time you saw the water police booking a jetskier vrsus the number of times you have seen a jetskier breaking the law? ![]()
One person dies so u should ban it? How many people die from drinking to many beers? What about driving?
Adolf pull your head it if everyone lived by the rules the world would be extremely dull
These machines are the equivalent of motocross bikes and dirt bikes . Do we let the riders of those machines tear arse around our public parks and recreational reserves that are frequented buy bulk general public ? Answer.....".no
This bloke was going for a swim , not drinking himself to death . OK , OK
well i was out flying my plane at work one day. i was flying a couple of hundred people to their destination,when all of a sudden i had some shark flying straight past my windscreen
i did save the day and avoid disaster through my talent and being a genetically superior human
well when i found out that it was one of those dastardly air swimmers that almost killed 200 people,i immediately call for a worldwide ban on these war type instruments of the sky![]()
Many jetski riders are idiots, it must be a very boring activity if you need to come close to people to show them your ability to rotate your right wrist. I have seen tossers ride across the bay to get close to a pier where people were fishing just to do a bit of circle work. What sort of lame wanker does that? I don't think they should be banned, just the dumb ones given an old-skool beating until they learn to behave themselves.
Cops were out busting a jet skier today. It was kind of cool to see the red and blue lights flashing as they pulled the guy over.
Here's my eye witness accounts;
Fisherman's Beach Torquay;
Scenario A - When the swell is up in winter, you will see a few ski's launching or landing, and watch these guys in action, never a problem. Plus being winter, if they are coming into land a little fast, or heading out a fraction fast too early, it's never a problem, because they set themselves a straight line, maintain a straight line, and concentrate on their course....
Scenario B - Fisherman's Beach in Summer, there the additional influx of ski's on the back of shiny wild coloured utes and 4WD's with big chrome rims, and ski's without trailing rescue sleds. They'll be zipping around Point Danger, or Zeally Bay, throwing as much water as they can, doing "pointless circle work", not really caring for where they are going, and perhaps even trying to see if their friends on the beach are watching their "heroics".
That's probably about as much as I want to say, as it is a pulic forum, and I'm fairly easy to track down !!
(in real life).
Maritime services in NSW has only one boat to patrol all Botany Bay, plus Georges River, so policing the fat pigs on PWCs is really just a matter of luck.
Funny thing is how few of them go out on Fridays.......I guess that's when they fire up the Victa and get their suburban heaven shipshape for the weekend
I've seen cops on jet skis before. You could tell them quite easily by the blue cap with the check band.
They had a jet skier pulled over when a boofhead kiter thought it would be a good idea to jump over them. He got a good talking to but was not booked. I was watching it and it was one of those Noooooooooo! moments.
its a fine line, we are all in the water together. Government and laws will start in one place (ie snapper rocks and cctv footage and fines) and end up covering lots of places and the main places of australia. I dont like jet skis motorbikes etc, but I would detest laws fines cameras in the ocean.. Its doesnt take much imagination to imagine kiters jetskis surfers all being fined under the current gov regime in this country. Be careful what you wish for
hammer them i say. ive been run over twice while spear fishing with a flag each time. tthen they both had the sense to abuse me for being so far off shore on "their" reef. one even "asked" me loudly where the f my flag was -" um right there 15 or so metres behind me" (20metre line so i could get to the bottom).
both left rather quickly after my gun was brought to the surface.
hopefully they got done after i put them in.
Windsurfer GoPro footage of near miss

Sadly any sport has di-k heads.
Many Jet skiers do put out a bad rap but so do other sports. Like the kite boarders at Pinnaroo point. I used to slow down for these guys in my boat until one day, what happens when you slow down is they come real close and the shoot left and right with strings everywhere. Well this one day a bloke sailed straight into the side of my boat. He said he was sorry he thought he'd make it, but now i have two 6 tonne of boat, V8 stern drives running with 50 feet of kite string wrapping and going everywhere. So thanks to this tool now i just go full speed with my hand on horn and guess what MOST of turn off before getting too close.
Wind surfers normally all seem to travel one way in a group and back again but kitters are just skitzo..
So should we ban kit surfers?
On Sat a surfer paddled straight out and proceeded to drop in on the next two waves on Bin lidders. Even abused the first guy when he called him off. Next wave he blocked the guy by deliberately hitting him. Neither got the wave. SO do we ban Surfers?
Snorkeling free divers and scuba divers swim out and dive around the Hillary's boat harbour channel and small rocky outcrops. They pop up in front of you when your driving and scare the crap out of you. Do we ban scuba divers and free divers?
Or do we set up rules and just ask they get policed properly![]()
i heard there were 2 jetskis terrorising a juvenile dolphin in the barwon estuary a couple of years ago.
they had it trapped in the channel and were chasing, circling it and hooning around it for 20 minutes.
the dolphin became distressed and started floating on the surface, on its side and seemed unable to swim, just doing a few random tail splashes and making weird calls.
a crowd of spectators had formed on the side of the river and people were shouting at the skis for them to leave it alone.
but did they f*ck.
I knew of that dolphin pretty well, id swam with it and windsurfed with it quite a bit that summer. he was a cheeky happy thing.
it still makes me rage to this day how two, tw@t city hoons can come down to the coast and completely f*ck up what theyve come down here to see.
i wish i was there at the time. i would have beaten the sh!t out of them at the boat ramp.![]()
