I know there are some pretty amazing inventions that have been discovered since mankind started walking this earth, fire, penicillin, flight, wine casks or even battery operated power tools, but to me one of the greatest is the "hoodie" worn by millions, whether it be those robbing the local milk bar, mum's pushing the pram on their morning walk or even me to ward of the cold. Life would not be the same without it......

hoodie?
Those things are dysfunctional. You turn your head you can't see anything. You have to train your waist to fill in for your neck. There is a definite opportunity for improvement there.

The ratchet.

What a perfect little tool. Every time I use one I say "God bless the man who invented this", even though I don't believe in god.

They asked an Asian person "what was the greatest invention?"
He says, " the computer, with computah you have knowredge of everything"
They asked an American and he said, "the automobile, it has changed the way we design our cities, work and live our daily lives"
They asked a bogan what was the greatest invention and he responded, "the thermos" well how do you figure that? they asked, what's so special about a thermos?
The bogan responded, "you put in hot, it stay hot, you put in cold it stay cold, how do it know?"

Best invention of the 21st century is seabreeze and kitesurfing.

Both consume an enormous amount of my time.

I think 'sliced bread' is very overated and certainly does not deserve the accolades which it has received over time.

The 'widget'

A widget is a device placed in a container of beer to manage the characteristics of the beer's head. The original widget was patented in Ireland by Guinness. The "floating widget" is found in cans of beer as a hollow plastic sphere, 3 cm in diameter (similar in appearance to a small table tennis ball) with a small hole in one side. The "rocket widget" is found in bottles, 7 cm in length with the small hole at the bottom

I'm on a Mac. But I want to know what Alt-F4 does! I love short cuts, and Windows is probably better at offering a large array of short cuts.

Ockanui, I've actually had the exact same thought about the humble T-shirt. Sometimes when it is cold, I just put 2 on.
