Stopped into a fast food store today for a burger (1pm), it took 14 minutes to even get served, mind you lots of staff around 3 cleaning in the kitchen, 3 dealing with the drive through, 2 serving, 1 making the burgers, 1 cleaning up the dining room and the manager doing the fries. With 10 or more staff why do customers wait (I believe an excessive time just to be served?)
The looks on some of the young staff peoples faces looks like their goldfish had just died or their chickens were sick!!! .....
Is it just me or are we starting to accept poor customer service as normal... if this is normal, and we accept it as normal the young kids coming into the workforce are in for a hell of a shock when they get a real job in the real world. (I wouldn't hire any of the people I saw today)
My wife just thinks I'm getting grumpy in my old age
You probably are getting grumpy in your old age, Brian!
That being said, i agree with you about service. People here don't seem to give a s@^t either...
The service matches the quality of the food served.
Would you trust a teenager to cook a gourmet meal?
It's all relative.
If you're referring to McDonalds, I can't understand why everything takes so long.
If you order the so-called healthy choice food then it takes even longer and costs a fortune.
Their coffee is not too bad.
Subway is usually pretty quick and the food is less toxic than others.
What I do on my fairly frequent trips is have an Italian restaurant (ie. proper restaurant not fast food joint) en route on the speed dial. When I am 20 minutes away I order a pizza and it's just coming out of the oven when I walk in the door.
was ordering from a similar place drive through... and i said, can i have X... she says "yes", then i say explicitly can i have it in a meal... she said, "sure..." and i said i want it in a meal not by it self, and she said "no problem"... i drive to pay and pick it up, and they hand me out just "X" without the meal... and they say, "oh, she charged you for "X" only, not the meal"... WTF?!!
i reckon, good customer service in general (across any industry or any type of retail) is a rare species where i live...
especially if the company in question already has your money... then they'll f... you over and leave you to rot... (that's my experience so far).
in terms of quality of service and quality of goods you buy, we are all doomed...
The trouble is, these days its too easy for these kids (actually not only kids, everyone) to get jobs.
Because the shops are crying out for staff, the employees hold the power and get away with attitudes you would never have gotten away with 20 years ago.
I know I sound like some old fart carrying on about the 'ol days (coz I am)
When you actually had to compete for jobs you were bloody happy to get one, and your attitude matched.
Combine the above with the Unfair Dismissal Laws and its suddenly impossible to get rid of someone no matter how bad they, or their attitude, are. ![]()

^^^ it's all to do with the attitude... it's what differentiates loosers from non-loosers... no offence to anyone, but if you have good attitude towards life, that will reflect in your work/career/life
Eat at a Fast Food outlet and you get junior wage service, eat at a trendy restraunt and you get top wage service but farkall food
I hear what you're saying but that is not the case. Chinese students at food courts, young Aussies working in cafes, sandwich bars etc etc. You can get good quality food at reasonable prices with friendly, helpful service.
They're obviously making money because the businesses are still there several years later on. The people are making a living because I see them driving a late model car into the car park. The rents in the CBD must be astronomical.
The cute chicks at the cafe always have a smile and I hear about their weekends clubbing or plans for a trip OS. They're doing whatever anybody else is doing. They're not totally impoverished or bitter or grumpy.
So how can one business sector keep on doing it without too much major stress, while another business makes mega-profits peddling an inferior product with bad service?
Oop! I think I just answered my own question. ![]()
I find the rudest and most out of touch people are aged between 50-65. They're worse than mums with prams!
There is always the other side of the coin. I work in a customer service industry - warranty repairs on brown goods for quite a few major brands and it is often very hard to be 'nice' to customers whan all you get is abuse and customers arrogant demands.
Lets face it - if you want good service, treat the people who serve you with a little respect. We are just trying to do our job.
In saying that, some customer service staff are just hopeless.
