Im a fairly new Dad I have a 1 year old + 2.5 year Old, I love spending time down at the beach with my Kids. I cant stand people bringing thier dogs down to the beachs (signed no animals) and letting them run around freely. It is extremely intimidating for very small children. I would happily face any dog with a large club in hand but at 75cm my little lad is nio match for a rotty. The other day my little one nearly ate an old dry turd hidden in the sand by some arsholes dog! What can be done about this? Should I just give up and put up?
^^ hear, hear Crusher...... somehow I don't think these same people would appreciate your kids sh1tting on their front yards (or better still their front doorstep). Believe me, where I live I see dog owners happily letting their dogs go about their business on the beach we live and play on a daily basis. They think by kicking a bit of sand over the pile of crap, they are fulfilling their community obligation. Also the Council never police the dogs on leashes by-law we have up here.
I'm sure that its a minority that spoilt it for everyone. I'm a dog owner & have a 2yo so have stakes in both and I to get pis^&d off with inconsiderate dog owners who believe that their "beloved"s behaviour doesn't impact on anyone else. When small children are around I'll make sure my dog is under control and not assume that everybody loves to have a slobbering Labrador in their face.
Found the dog that ****s on my lawn all the time. He was out by himself so I followed him home.
Then I came back to mine, put the poo in an envelope addressed "Return to Scotty", the name on the dog's collar. Placed in owner's letterbox. Satisfaction.
Last weekend I was windsurfing in Kurnell and my family was on the beach (wife, Daughter 5yo and son 2yo). There was also 6 dogs playing around. My daughter is a bit scared about dogs after a close encounter with a dog two years ago. So I went and asked polity to the owners if they can leash their dogs or keep them around their own space. The answer was : It's a dog leach free beach and we do what we want!
1 hour later, because there was no wind I was playing with my daughter on the board, leaving the sail on the beach.
Two dogs jumped on the sail leaving two beautiful scratches in the middle of a panel...
Just because I was upset I asked for the insurance details of the owners and took the adress of one witness...
That was magic : in 5 minutes all the dogs disapearred from the beach.
From my point...if the beach says no dogs...than there should be no dogs! end of story.
There is not one rule for one and no rules for the rest of the state.
From my maternal point...your littlies, only have one face.
Dogs can carry scares well and often are commended for
their battle wounds by their brilliant owners.
It only takes a second for them to maul and rip at a face. (which is at their level)
And then there's the mental scaring!
Just ask an adult that does not like dogs..
it will usually stem from a inconsiderate owner
that had their dog at the beach when they were young.
It only takes one growl or bite to scare a littlies for life.
Dogs have their place (I love dogs) but not on a beach that says NO ANIMALS!
dog owner must take responcibility for there animal especially a rotweiler
For ths reason my new Dog is a golden retreiver.
My rottie was beautiful before she died of cancer but at the beech it was allways kept on a leash .
People with big dogs should not take them onto non dog beeches and let them roam around as they please.
If anything happend the dog owner will be found negligent in a court of law.
I herd of a yound child who put her hands over a fence and a staffy jumped up and ripped of her little finger ;-(
my rotweiler was a nice dog but after 5 years of not biting i brought a young chick home fter a date and my dog bit her on the head leaving two puncture marks either side of her nose.

Strike first punch them straight on the nose befor they bite you on the bollocks,running through the dog zone, thats the first thing they go for
I remember as a kid there was this bulldog that lived in our street that chased us and trying to bite our legs when we rode past on our bikes, scaring the crap out of us...our parents had complained to the owner, but nothing was ever done. One morning it flew the kid next door (7yo kid) and pulled him off his bike, and ripped into his leg. The owner ran out, grabbed the dog & took it back in his yard, whilst the kids mum frantically ran her son to the hospital.
When the kids dad got home, he pulled his car in the drive, calmly walked straight into the dog owners yard (at this point we noticed that steel cap boots didn't match the suit he was wearing), and as the dog ran up to him...footy-kicked the dog right in the chest...killing it! (sorry for being a bit graphic.) The owner yelled and abused the guy, but in my opinion, justice was served! We were all standing out the front watching, and it's something I won't forget. With 2 young kids, I wouldn't hesitate to do the same, even if it was my own dog!
Changing subject...we're trying to train our 4yo daughter not to run up to strange dogs and pat them! She always asks the owners now, and it's nothing to see her grab a rottie or german shep in a bear hug around their necks!

i think there are probably far more problems in the world due to out of control kids than there are with out of control dogs...
one thing both have in common is that each ones' behaviour/temprement/attitude is a dirrect reflection of their owners/gaurdians/parents attitudes/temprement/behaviour.
from my personal experience, i am way more wary of a group of fifteen year olds out on the street than a dog or two out roaming off their leash.
i've never had a dog break into my house, or vandalise my private property
i take my dogs to the beach everyday, the sign says no dogs, but then there are never any people either, i do take responsibility for my; and my dogs actions and we never go to the beach when i know there will be people about.
Interesting thoughts! I reckon the signs are there for a reason. Dog owners have beaches where they can visit with their 4 legged friends. National parks and public beaches ,,, no dogs as decided by our elected governments/councils. Pretty simple. The people that let there dogs run around on a public beaches against the local laws are likely to be the parents of the teenagers that have little respect for others.

just finished the cull of local cats, its nice to walk out the front door without smelling the wee , or stepping in the poo in the vege garden.

It's a beautiful thing to see a dog quiver with excitement as he's let of the leash and goes tearing across the sand. Pure joy, tongue flailing like a blissed out fruitloop.
For all the beach going dog lovers out there, imagine you're standing in the sand and turn to see two or three 120kg professional footballers running at breakneck speed straight at you. They are wild eyed with excitement and don't slow down for a second. Enjoying yourself? That's what it feels like for a small child on the beach. What if one of these guys decides to jump up on you laughing with excitement, or climbs on your back and starts dry humping you? Or pisses on your towel or ****s on the beach (and dutifully picks it up in a council provided doggy bag)?
I live on a beach with an unleashed dog exercise area. In fact other than the main beach every beach around Byron Bay has an extensive dog exercise area. The problem I have with this is not that I want to rob the joy of a great run from dogs, its that the beach is unusable for the rest of us. Here are some facts. Leave your towel on the beach while you jump in for a swim and if its at a peak dog walking time it will get pissed on (it's happened so many times now I just don't take a towel (by the way this is all in an area adjacent but outside the designated dog zone and when I've confronted dog owners not one has even apologised - usually the response is something like 'She's a female mate' - Sorry, your female dog just pissed on my towel). Play ball with your kids - sorry, ball is gone in the slobbering mouth of a dog at least half the time. We once ran the twenty metres to jump in the water with my sleeping one year old niece on the sand only to have the single dog on the beach run up and piss on her. Try having a lunch on Tallow beach - ha. You will also never see shore birds on these beaches except about 2 kms from the area and in very small numbers. I particularly enjoy my morning surf check - the smell of dog piss and **** is sublime and the wonderful decorations up the track of small **** filled bags hanging from the fence is also extremely rewarding. I must admit to being a little jealous, I really would like to have a toilet as beautiful as an Aussie beach.
The point is the beach is all of ours and having more than the occasional unleashed dog on a beach will render that beach virtually unusable for any normal family beach activity. To put it in legal terms: dogs on beaches interfere with the wider community's right to quiet and peaceful enjoyment. Put it on a leash and we have no problem. It has nothing to do with the odd inconsiderate dog owner it has everything to do with the normal behaviour of dogs. Get unleashed dogs off the beach!
What would be interesting in this is how many people that wish for dogs to be restrained also are advocates of not containing sharks.
i have enjoyed dogs and cats all my life.
in australia we may have to rethink our pets.
just a thought.
native animals might be more user friendly.
my last fido peed on sunbakers heads at the local dog beach despite the discipline from dog school! 
The point is you can have your day in court
and fight it out with a dog owner that is not suppose to be on
a "NO Animal" beach and you might win... ya!...you say..I have won!..

My dog loves the beach- she comes when she is called and does not harass other people....I pick up her deposits and if she urinates I cover it with some sand....
Australia is already over regulated....stupidly so. Some of you here are advocating more rules...everyone has the right to enjoy the beach. If you condone any more rules about dogs where does it stop- surfing is dangerous to swimmers, fishing attracts sharks and leaves hooks and line in the water and on our beaches....are we going to ban everything ?
