Maybe we can have eddie and robbie water house both of the air for a while

w
i'd rather eddie and tom waterhouse dissapear .

But this thing is all out of proportion . I get called a white c$$$ by aboriginals down the road consistently . They are being racist towards me so why can't i call them a stupid black cu$t ?

Because then you are playing the lowest common denominator, and anyone can do that......

^^^ Suicides, bullying, discrimination, harassment - the list goes on.

As for this discussion - paddymac & log man...your comments are spot-on & represent the real issue here!

Harry O'Brien's comments carry a lot of weight & I was very impressed with the way he was able to express where the issue lays - not with the simple/stupid comment, nor the subject or target - but more the fact that it seemed to be an inherent & sub-conscious comment, with the aim of getting a laugh...using a racist slur...during the 'indigenous round'...from someone whom less than 24 hrs earlier had to address racism within his own club!?! I don't think it can be dismissed as a simple 'slip of the tongue' in this case.

As for Ed - go away! (and that's coming from a Collingwood supporter!)

Think we might have a friendly argument about this over a couple of ales tonight mate

People F#!k up it's pretty plain and simple. Has anyone here ever said something they didn't mean to say? Why the hell would Eddie go to the lengths he did last Friday and then purposely reverse every bit of it?? It just doesn't make sense.

The fact of the matter is no one here was in the room when he said it and no one here was in his head when he said it, unless your a mind reader you cant tell me why he said it and what context he meant to say it in.

Remember assumption is the mother of all F%&k ups. Yeah he said the wrong thing and Adam Goodes has every rite to be pissed, but for f#!k sake let them deal with it!

And yeah you know who I support

I mean people can't seem to understand that calling a black man.....an "ape" is a horribly racist thing. I mean FFS. NO!,..... calling a red headed man a "ranga" is NOT the same thing. That's an insult. Referring to a racial heritage in a demeaning way is what we're talking about here.

How is calling someone a ranga different??
Both are insults.
Both parties were born with the supposed "defect" - a red head cant change all his hair colour any more than a black man can change his skin colour.
Both are variations on the same sub-human "theme" - Orangutan and Ape.

Is it the intent? One is often made in jest, taking the p1ss out of ginger mate, so its OK?

Weirdly enough I've never heard of 'ape' on its own used a insult against aboriginals*, now everyone has, worldwide, it has just been added to the vocabulary of everyone who never made the connection before.

*(maybe this is why most people think Goodes reaction was over the top)

Your "point" may have some validity if there were a race of redheads.....and those redheads were discriminated against over time......or they were used as slaves......bought and sold.......their lands removed from them .......their culture destroyed.......their children removed from their families to never be reunited......but no , I can't think of a red headed group that has been treated like this, can you?.......no....so?

Your comment shows you don't understand what's going on here, so maybe a rethink by you might be a good idea.

Google "the last Tasmanian" shown on ABC a couple of years ago. I dare you to watch that show and remain unchanged.

I do understand...apparently we as humans have a sliding scale of what genetic mutation we are and are not allowed to make comment on - no matter what the intent of that comment? But that sliding scale is different for different people.

There ARE a race of readheads, its a genetic mutation - same as coloured skin and asian eyes. Whilst they may not have been targeted to the extent that the aboriginals have been, does that make it it any less offensive?

Does teasing someone who is poor, rich, whatever make it acceptable?

I rethink my position daily - generally about what a **** state the world has become because people want to be treated as equals but then play the "insert minority" card when they dont get their own way or stuff doesnt come their way like its a right.

The solution to all this is simple. Stop fakking bagging each other based on how we look and where we come from. If only people would find something better to do. It's the 21st century FFS.

Racism is a joke. I was at the beach this morning. My local and a few people turned up, photographers, journo types, and a Dark man. I quickly determined he was the father of a young african boy who drowned at my beach a few months ago.

To paint a picture the fence there had been filled with flowers, notes and ballons and after a few weeks the dead flowers were removed. Over time a small steady bunch of fake flowers have been hang and stayed in place.

One of the ladies this morning immediately started on a rant about how the old flowers had been removed because the victim had been black

The father moved away from her and he and i had a few words. He said he was trying to get the local government to place better signage to help prevent any more unnecessary drownings. He held his head high and had his photo taken, answered there questions but seemed distressed by the black rant form this stupid, ill informed bitch that it took every bit of my skill, to walk away and not disrespect this grieving man by telling her what i really thought..

Racism is bad, but just what is racism these days is the problem..

We're all apes. Specifically, African Apes.

If the Victorian notion that we're somehow above the other apes was gone, then it would cease to be an apparent insult!

There is every chance that if Fraser Gerhig was still around, and ran past the boundary, that little girl may have called him an Ape too.

Goodes should have walked up to her and said, yes I'm an Ape, AND SO ARE YOU!!

Hope he plays like a sponge this weekend..

To play Australian rules you have to be an animal .
If footballers think we go to watch them whing / bitch over comments across the fence and try to tell the crowd what to do ,the game is lost .

They should think themselves lucky we pay them and there not playing back in the Roaman days.

Full thumbs down

In all seriousness (and I say this after some very careful consideration), I think it is quite clear to any educated mind that Australian Rules is the softest of all the football codes and represents the triumph of metro-sexual values in the hopelessly degenerate southern states of Australia.

As an outsider, from the state that was happily blessed by God with all his best work, the way forward is obvious. Put and end to this crazy, unmanly game, bedeviled as it by arcane, opaque rules, microshorts, and man-sized hissy fits. Adopt instead sports more fitting of the Australian national identity: big game fishing, roo-shooting, can stacking, and rugby league.

It is only then that we can all move forward as a people, black, white, and yellow, and raise or heads again as proud Australians.

We owe it to the diggers at the very least.
