Interested on opinions on whether the flu shot is worth it for a hopefully otherwise healthy 37 male. It's free through work and I spend a bit of time in hospitals.
Will it help or hinder my immune system in the future? Should I just be letting my body get the flu if it wants to and develop my own resistances etc or does the flu shot do this anyway? Any docs have an opinion?
I have seen the gwynith paltrow flu movie and would like to be one of the survivors!
Q petermac a whacky theory and a u tube vid.........
I get one every year. Missed last year and got crook.
I got no side effects no flu and the nurse was hot.
I had a flu vaccine once and it made me sick.
So now I take my chances. Haven't had the flu for about 16 years.
there is a myth it will give you the flu, not true.
the vaccine does not start working for two weeks after the shots, people sometime catch the flu during this period and assume it is from the vaccine.
there are many forms of influenza and no garranties the shot will prevent you getting sick, but it will not hurt.
i had one a couple of years ago and didn't catch anything for over a year, normally i have at least one sick spell a year.
I do....
.... but I have damaged lungs from an untreated bout of pneumonia I picked up in Europe many years ago.
I've been having the vaccine for the last 4 or 5 years and get through winter with no problems now. ![]()
"they" are injecting you with nanobots.
when they flick a switch every inoculated person will start squarking like a chicken.
that is, everyone except me!
(mate, your 37 years of age. not even close, mortality wise to a group of geriatrics that could be at serious risk from a flu virus. building your own defenses is always the best bet with viruses. if you want to help your immune system then detox your liver. The liver is the main blood stream filter in the body) ![]()

they are manufactured based on the previous years strain, so with a slight mutation which continually happens they are always out of date.
How can you predict which strain is going to be prevalent in any given year.
Have the shot. Vaccinations save lives. (Or can stop you feeling like death if you catch the actual flu)
Patsken - "they are manufactured based on the previous years strain, so with a slight mutation which continually happens they are always out of date.

Not quite true Patsken, they are not always out of date. The strains do change, but as seen this year / last year they do not always change.
Stamp - that's what the flu shot (and nearly every other vaccine) does, it is a harmless replica of the virus. It is not a harmless replica but an inactive sterilised virus that is the same strain it protects against.
Whilst the different brands all use the same virus strains they do use slightly different additives - this can affect you differently brand from brand.

I haven't had the flu for years.
When I feel the flu coming on I just say to myself 'nup I'm not going to get sick' It goes away.
It's all a money spinning operation the same with Gardisal. Gardisal is just wrong.
