"But I can't help but think future generations will look upon us as for killing all the fish. As it is entirely possible that we will fish the oceans bare within a few generations."
Take only what you need and within the bag limits and keep the pro's out of the rec fishing areas.
"maybe catching Baldies for entertainment will be seen just as outdated in the near future.. Especially if they are extinct!"
i have never known anyone to catch baldies for entertainment, or any bottom species for that matter. Sambo's and sport fish yes but not a quality table fish.
Mr No One took exception to and intimidated some poor bloke who was perfectly within his rights to take the fish that he had caught. And I quote him again;
Before he killed it I said "It's undersized, are you going to throw it back or will I" very firmly. He backed down, I had no idea if it was legal but he wasn't a happy camper, I'm sure the crowd that started forming had my back when I walked it out.
If that's not intimidation, I don't know what is. Hammers are one of the most common and fecund species of sharks along our coastline and you'll have a far lesser impact on the environment by removing one of them than by removing a slow growing demersal like a Dhu, Snapper or a Groper.
Mr NoBalls (if we are going to resort to juvenile name calling) would you still have had a dig if it'd had been a size Dhuie that he had caught? I highly doubt it.
I too love my fishing mate and I choose to release well over 90% of what I catch. Doesn't give me the right to act like a right wing PETA farkwit.
