,I got a little into AFL a few years ago but have not watched a game this year,same as rugby.
I love the footy (and rugby and cricket etc)!
There's about 20 other channels on free to air now so dont complain about having nothing to watch/tv is crap etc.

And what do you mean no benefit but money...how about encouraging kids to take up a sport! There's already enough fatties out there, anything to help control the fat problem is good.
Watching a game that involves peak fitness, strength and skill is about 10000000000 time better than watching The Fattest Loser and Mastercook etc.

Footy is the only thing that gets some of our kids to go to school. We have "bribed" a coupla kids by dangling the chance to play footy for the school team in brand new boots we purchase and hand out wen they complete their side of the bargain by turning up more often than not!!
Clontarf college uses footy as the carrot to get indiginous boys to go to school, im sure the same is done in the rugby states too.

Best times of my life were winnin footy(afl) and cricket finals.
Still play cricket to this day. Great flat day sport, which i get to play a fair bit of it bein a summer sport.

Found nothing wrong going with the mates in the winter, when the wind is down, have a couple of tinnies, watch a game then go to the pub.
We were not into the sport, but it used to be a fun thing to do once in a while.
Problem is that the masses are so obsessed with sport,that they lose awareness and interest of more meaningful events,as the doc earlier pointed out.
When knowing the playing stats of Eagles players takes precedence over knowing how many parts per million of industrial waste/fluoride is in the tap water,then it's clear the masses are being distracted deliberately by the corporate media that promotes sport in such an overbearing fashion.
