You are right about those XYs being a brute of a car. I had one some years ago that had the run-out Canadian 302 Windsor and a C4 box. A beautiful cruiser but not one to throw around.

Even Brock said when he eventually drove an XY GT, he didn't know how Moffat, Johnson and the others kept them on the track!!!!

Are you sure it's the same V6? I think GM and Ford sharing a motor is very unlikely. Just based on the marketing problem it would cause if nothing else.

It would make much more sense if they were talking about Ford's global V6 as the replacement for the inline six. I think Australia is the only market where they use an inline six and they were trying to decide if it was worth continuing to update the same engine or go with an imported V6.

Well when you are talking V8 touring cars, it's a different thing. I wouldn't be surprised if the only thing they didn't use the same was the body shell (well the bits that they weld onto the space frame anyway).

I don't know if they use the same motor though. Again it would be a difficult marketing problem.

As far as the current model goes, nearly all of it! Aussie designed and made engine, chassis, body style, assembly etc etc I'm sure there is plenty of switch and running gear that is sourced from overseas Ford parts bins but essentially it is an Aussie car

As far as the engine being changed to a V6 in the Falcons, that was the case but not anymore. It has had a stay of execution and is destined to be continually fitted and refined for Falcons and Territory's for many years to come.

It's funny that people assume that pushrods are inferior. You would think that if they were truly inferior that GM wouldn't use them. They do use overhead cams in other engines so it's not really a difficult thing for them to do.

When Holden went from the Nissan (OHC) 6 cylinder to the 'Buick' V6 in the VN commodore they went with the V6 because it was cheaper, but it also made more power, was more fuel efficient, and was lighter than the Nissan 6 it replaced. Hmmm... inferior in what way?

It was suggested at the time that Ford only added an overhead cam to their 4.1/4.0 engines to give it marketing appeal.

When GM designed the GEN3 V8 engine from a completely clean design brief, they went with pushrods because it met their design objectives. They had the choice to do anything they wanted, but overhead cams were no advantage to them.

I have to laugh at a few people who I used to work with that would insist that a car was better because it had overhead cams but couldn't tell me what it meant or why it was better.

I have both a Commondore and a Foulcan, but you would have to wonder if the Commodore was the most recalled car because they sold so many more than Ford did. That's a good problem to have I think.

Are you sure about the depreciation differences? The reason I have a Falcon is that the same year model Commodores were selling for a few thousand more. IMO they are not that different, so why not get the Ford.

Had a XR8 a few years back...best car I've ever had...besides the ol' Valiant Regal! Now that was classy...needed an intercom to talk to the passengers in the back, and my mates reckoned it looked like a speedboat when I took off! Haha - memories....
