Has Dick gone too Far?

Had a look at the Dick Smith ad, I can't see what the fuss is about.

How much publicity has he been getting
My wife loves Dick and thinks its great

Everyone dislikes a bragger

here it is uncensored

I do love Dick! Love the add!
The man as far as I am concerned speaks for me
I am sure their are others that stand up for the little guy
but he surely does it in a big way
and he LOVES controversy in a big way too
and I can't see anything wrong with the add at all, for this day and age

Onya Dick!!! Give them multinationals plenty of stick.

I feel a bit used.

1. hire comedian (dan ilic) make cheap ad
2. book a tiny amount of airtime at 6pm timeslot knowing ad too risque
3. Ad ok'd for slightly later - 7:30 or something
4. Fake outrage, send some fake smss to comedian to put on twitter
5. Everyone in australia seeks out ad, watches it, discusses
6. Profit

7. All profits donated to charity.

and you can feel all warm and fuzzy again.

I think there is a Cider brewing company in the US that has some good YouTube clips, 'Dickens' is the brewers name.

Dicks in it up to his......nuh never mind.

Australias future would be more promising if it had more dicks in it.

You must have a dirty mind and taken my comment the wrong way Or your wifes to embarrassed to admit to you she loves Dick as much as my wife. Either way I hope your comment about me (so called) bragging doesn't stem from jealousy because jealousy is a curse and can eat you up.

As an online marketer this could be used as a training lecture, brilliant.

I did a keyword search for Dick Smith and in the online world it attracts a total of 368k searchs a month just in Australia which would result in the No1 position in Google getting 154k searches a month worth 14k p/mth in CPC advertising.

The exposure Dick has generated from this media campaign is worth way more, impossible to put a number on. Very savvy marketer.

Yeah but he wouldn't have gotten nearly as much exposure (pun?) if he wasn't already well known.
He's pretty much relying on that fact for this to work; as an example I think the lessons would be limited, ie- once famous, do something most conservative people would find outrageous = reap further publicity.
