I've got a crazy immigration scheme for you.
How about we treat the incredibly small number of asylum seekers (they account for less than 1% of immigration) that arrive by boat with respect and dignity. Their boat looks un-sea worthy? Once they're in Australian waters lets send one of ours out to pick them up. When they arrive, let them live in the community while we process their claims and not an immigration centre. Let's welcome them into the community and give them every opportunity to succeed, we might not get a 100% strike rate from the first generation but at least the second and third generation won't grow up resenting us for being d1cks to their parents. How can we expect them to want to become 'Australians' when half of us come across like total f*ckwits?
Treating these people better wouldn't even cost us anymore than the current system and benefits everyone in the long run. I hate preachy Libertarians as much as the next guy (the only thing worse than a plastic socialist in a Che t-shirt is a bogan with a 'F*ck-Off We're Full' sticker) but this sh1t is just common human decency. If you treat people with disdain how can you expect anything else in return?
I won't call anyone on here a rascist (after all your mate is proper Indian and stuff) but you sure do sound like a ****!
Population explosion is a whole other issue (if that's what you're getting at) with its own concerns but I can't see refugees ever being a major cause of it in Australia. Our natural isolation will always keep the number of refugees arriving 'illegally' pretty low. Personally, I think Australia is better placed than just about any other country in the world to take in refugees at the moment.
How about we excise Christmas Island from Australia. Make it an independent country or just evacuate it and leave it for the crabs. It's about 300kms from Java and about 3000 kms from Australia. So all the boats make a B line there. It would be interesting to see how much taxpayer money is spent there compared to revenue raised.
Also have the government do nothing when boat people arrive. If do gooders want to help boat people or businesses want to help then it still is a reasonable free country so they can, as long as no government (our) money is spent.
Ensure people arriving here have no access to government services besides the police if they break laws. If they whinge tell them that's too bad, no one asked you to come here. Make it under your own efforts or get out.
Honestly it annoys me when I see refugees who are not working are living in good houses at our expense while many Aussies are battling to keep going
Given that nobody appears to understand the difference between immigration policy and asylum seeker policy perhaps we are not the best people to be commenting ?
Sorry folks, this one has already put a enough people offside so unsurprisingly it's time for this to be locked.
