At the risk of going all over the place with this thread - do you reckon a 2002 - 2004 Monaro will appreciate? You can pick up a good one for around $22K

Think the 4WD ones already are.

Personally, with your budget I'd get a VW Golf R 2 door or a BMW 135i but probably not enough prestige for you.

Those newer Toyota cruisers look good - probably would like to take one for a test drive. I also want to take a 2005 BMW 530D out also.

Sanity prevails. Having said that, don't listen to me. I have ridiculous, expensive and totally impractical cars - a 1978 VW panel van as well as the 944.

I almost bought a VZ Commodore wagon yesterday, but I couldn't bring myself to do something so sensible. God knows what I'm going to get instead.

I think someone else said it - I want a car that says f'ck u loser.

The Rolls Royce would be a good contdender, I could imagine being at the lights, with my goatie and grey ponytail, listening to the corrs on the CD while losers in datsun's and hyundi's are giving me stink eye.

How about an Ural Gear-Up? The sidecar wheel is propshaft-driven, so it's technically a 3x2:

I'm thinking of bringing a few in. Estimated landed price is around $6k, but you do your own road documentation. If you mount a fake grenade launcher, it would definitely express the friendly feelings you appear to be currently harbouring towards your fellow Hyundai-driving citizens:

Just a thought. Work with me on this.

Maybe those losers aren't giving you the stink eye.

Maybe they couldn't care less about you or your latest boxy paddlecraft exquisitely tied down onto the roof.

They're probably staring at you in the hope that you look back to check out the hot young lass in their passenger seat.

You should act less posh and look back next time.

IIRC the Chinese are still making BMW pattern sidecar outfits as well, you can get them as issued WW2 spec- or with modern drivetrain.
Germany sold the Ruskis the earlier BMW motorcycle factory pre WW2.
Later, when the Ruskis over ran Germany in the Great Patriotic War, they took the newer BMW factory back to Russia, then the Ruskis swapped the earlier factory with the Chinese for a heap of food.

If I was going to buy another motorcycle- it would be one of these versions- at least they have some character!

As for cars- MB, or GPW for daily driving, GPA or Universal Carrier for back up.

anything like that will do me.

If I had $40k I'd buy my van again but get it in diesel, auto and with cruise control!

Then spend the change on some masts

i'm with ben here.... my car. at $30K new (45K less than a new troopy), it left me with some change for the cage, canopy and big tyres.

Goes off road, sleep in there and with a 2.5m tray it fits all the gear and a wet dog. ticks all the boxes.

what a pussy, sleeping INSIDE a navara the canvas is supposed to be for a swag
one of my customers has a cayenne, I would be happy to drive it, it would definitely havethe FU factor that you no longer get from a 100series
i test drove one of those new l/cruiser things, OK for the driver but bad luck if you are a rear passenger, you dont ven get a window.
really awful set up

why are we talking about a cayenne, $40K wouldn't even pay for the plastic surgery, solariums and teeth whitening required to drive one

i use swags all the time, nothing better than being under the stars. but when the weather turns or the mozzies are out the ute canopy is the place to sleep.

"what a pussy, sleeping INSIDE a navara" Huh, is this a joke i don't get? if not that's pretty rich from a dude that gets round in a Landyacht...

If you want a luxury 4x4 that can actually go offroad there is only one choice RANGE ROVER but who wants to put bush pinstriping on a Rangie

If you want a 4x4 you will actually want to take off road there are only two choices PATROL or LANDCRUISER ( you can add JK Jeeps to this list if you dont mind waiting for parts in remote locations )

X5s, Tourags, Cayennes, ML's ect.......are pathetic offroad poor approach and departure angles plastic bumpers and vitals that hang below chassis rails.

If its a cafe cruiser 4x4 I would still go the Range Rover the interiors are pimp and they have far more cudos that an X5 or Cayenne which are bogan luxos

Cayenne etc, usually have low profile tyres too, you can take stuff all air out before they will come of the rims.

Shame Toyota don't make the 4 runner anymore.

I loved my 4runner. Such a perfect 4wd. No electrics to break, fold flat seats and great fun!!! Bulletproof!

Sorry in australia Ural cant put power to the side car wheel cause the drive shaft is on the wrong side cause the yanks are a bit backwards. Your pics are of yank versions. Dont know how you would go getting reg on them as they are allready imported in to aus with the side car on the correct side. There is a few dealers up the east coast for em. Not to bad flat out at 100k though.

Got a car from my mates daughter because she upgraded (as they do at that age)
for $400. Gets us to work and back no dramas.
That would make it $39600 for other things...

Does that philosophy carry through into the rest of your life. It is probably that causing your cancer.

I reckon you have taken this quote out of context, I was describing the type of car I wanted to have this afternoon. Yes, at times my philosophy on the car I'd like to be driving could be related to my shabby treatment and my desire to get a better deal in life.

Isn't that what your choice in cars/fashion/haircuts are all about?

BTW I haven't got cancer and am not dying.

I think I'll stick with my 530i for two more years and pass it on to my son when he turns 18.

I feel I've achieved all the things I've set out to do - I've managed to live far longer than I thought I would and now .... I don't really know.

I'm just existing and slowly turning invisible. I don't have that thing inside of me driving me. Sure I have goals to get much fitter, lose some weight, and buy a property on the coast, but I'm not driven - like I used to be. The only way I can reconcile or explain my feelings is I must be having another Mid Life Crisis - which is how I opened the thread.

Maybe buying a Porche Cayenne could help me turn that corner.
