Arrgh. The girl reached for glory in a very tough medium.
She is about to achieve what she set out to do.
Nobody can ever take that away from her. If the rules for the record have changed, so what. The main thrust of it is that she did not sail to an antipody (point diametricly opposite to another point) as Jesse Martin did.
She has rounded the three southern most capes so she is not really knockable.
Good to see the record keepers have taken out the "youngest and oldest" rubbish.
Likely the waters between her position and destination are fairly free of inept Chinese mariners so there can be a high expectation of her reaching Sydney without further collissions.![]()
A google search of "Circumnavigation rules" comes up with this on Wikipedia.
In yacht racing, a round-the-world route approximating a great circle would be quite impractical, particularly in a non-stop race where use of the Panama and Suez Canals would be impossible. Yacht racing therefore defines a world circumnavigation to be a passage of at least 21,600 nautical miles (40,000 km) in length which crosses the equator, crosses every meridian and finishes in the same port as it starts.[2]. The map on the left shows the route of the Vendée Globe round-the-world race in red; overlaid in yellow are the points antipodal to all points on the route. It can be seen that the route does not pass through any pairs of antipodal points. Since the winds in the higher latitudes predominantly blow west-to-east it can be seen that there is an easier route (west-to-east) and a harder route (east-to-west) when circumnavigating by sail; this difficulty is magnified for square-rig vessels.
For current sailing records, see article : Around the world sailing record. For around the world sailing records, there is a rule saying that the length must be at least 21,600 nm calculated along the shortest possible track from the starting port and back that does not cross land and does not go below 63°S. It is allowed to have one single waypoint to lengthen the calculated track. The equator must be crossed.[3]
The Aussie Apple and pear place (Pink Lady Apples) are looking to take her on board
That has to be good ![]()
I dont think many people give a rats ar5e about what all these Knockers of Jesse are w4nking on about. Watch the reception she gets when she returns to Sydney. It'll be massive !!! If I was there I'd be out in my boat.

Jessica's homecoming ranks among the biggest of Sydney events
ELLIE HARVEY
May 10, 2010
ARRANGEMENTS for the homecoming of teenage sailor Jessica Watson on Saturday are in the same league as New Year's Eve or Mardi Gras, classified by the Roads and Traffic Authority as a ''class one'' event.
Jessica's public relations company, 5 Oceans Media, and government agencies have projected a crowd of 50,000.
Jessica, 16, expects to complete her solo, non-stop and unassisted voyage around the world this weekend. She left Sydney on October 18 and is expected to return through the Heads about 11.30am Saturday, and reach the Opera House an hour later.
It's a personal triumph.....that can only be good ![]()
It could be achievable to many if they had the backing....money.. ![]()
The media hype ....arrival...
and associated ongoings for some months ![]()
Will not effect me, I will smile a knowing
and ponder how many fish are left
in the sea, to feed the world. The state of the stock market will effect my life
more than, Jessicia's ripple on the ocean ![]()

Why is it ,when a human beats the odds ,concors the oceans of the world the media especially and people, who really fear its beauty and a challenge, continue to commentate negitively.
These people must believe they are the only ones to achieve. Is it because of thier narrow mindedness and limited experience, or egos they have claims to have seen bigger waves ,slayed bigger dragon and or is it because they have been beaten down by the power of the ocean and been defeated........ they find the only way is to talked down this world beating event.
Well couch sitters ,knockers and ocean slayers ............she has achieved one of the greatest things anyone can do on the ocean ever, so swollow yr attitude and so called worldly land loving job and limitted ocen experience and may be you can learn something from this unbelievable achievement.
Put your head over the side and SPEW a bit harder you land lovers.
You broke the record and establishments back (ouch)...........well done you champion
What an amazing acheivement. Congrats to Jessica. Can't believe i agree with kop, but as Jess said before she started, it's not about the record, it's about her sailing around the world. One of very few people who have actually lived their dream. Onya girl![]()

Yep, well done. The huge welcome was brilliant to see. It's a shame good ole k rudd just couldn't miss the press opportunity![]()
A brilliant acheivement!!! Just goes to show what people can acheive with the right amounts of determination!!![]()
Amazing coverage. It was about 5 hours tv non stop. Lots of idle banter filling the sound track and it got a bit repetitive.
As for the pollies, on occasions like that you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. I think they spoke well and Kev hit the right tone.
Jess spoke very well herself. She's really something. "Live your dream" - not a bad message.
Well done Jess...
I was one that wanted you to do it..
But did not think it would happen...
I was so very teary deary watching you walk the "pink" carpet.
Ya....top little lady I hope she has a good rest and all this was good for her!
I am looking forward to the Doco ![]()
Can you imagine sleeping on a stable bed tonight after all that time at sea...
I use to do 3 weeks at a time at sea..and it took at least 3 days to not
hit the sides of the walls when you went to the loo ![]()
what are the odds of the next lot of boat people coming to Australia in pink boats? after seeing Jessica's welcome.
