Now he's been granted asylum by Ecuador how does he get out of the embassy/country?
dress up as woman and walk out the front door......?
Personally I think Assange is a bit of a rubbish wannabe spy. His intentions are noble, but his delivery is lacking and his ego is off the scale.
Best case scenario as far I'm concerned is he gets sent to Sweden, spends a period in jail for his offences and the US doesn't give a bugger about him.
The US has already got their pound of flesh from the source of the leak, Bradley Manning.
Ich bin ein Ecuadorian, or Ecuadorato or something :).
(Just Babelfished it and got - "Soy ecuatoriano")
It's a feisty idealistic little country to go tuggin on Superman's cape. That strikes me as courageous given the history of Panama, Nicaragua, Chile, Granada and the rest.
It will be interesting to see what becomes of the stand off. I can't imagine Julian staying there indefinitely and I can't imagine him being beamed up. Maybe they could do some plastic surgery on him and leave a cardboard cutout at the window while he walks out the front door disguised as Delgardo. Someone could tell the cops that that's exactly the plan and they would jump on Sr Delgardo "or is that Julian Assange?" and throw him in jail provoking a diplomatic crisis.
What will he do with himself? Sit and write his memoirs to fill in time until they forget he's there, or a favorable change in government lets him off? Or will he make a clever escape? Or will he surrender? Or will the Pongos perhaps conjure up some trickery to justify storming the embassy?
If you were JA what would you do?
Maybe start sending out lots of (large) diplomatic bags from the embassy. See how many get searched by authorities? (I've heard it suggested that a diplomatic bag has certain 'rights' that may make it difficult to be legally searched).
Then send JA in one of the bags?
Either that or call in McGyver or Chuck Norris.... ![]()
Here's an interesting take on Delgado's (Correa's) motives.http://www.freep.com/article/20120819/NEWS07/308190215/Asylum-for-Assange-garners-Ecuador-s-president-favor-in-South-America
Considering the amount of support the Australian government has given him I can see him taking up Ecuadorian citizenship and shortly afterwards being employed by the Ecuadorian foreign service as their diplomat. He will then be asked to report to Ecuador.
As Assange has committed no crimes in the U.K. nor Sweden he will have every right as a diplomat to be allowed to leave the embassy without being hindered by the police and will leave the U.K.
^^^^
Moby the diplomat idea is truly inspired. As an Ecuadorean(?) diplomat he would be virtually immune from arrest and the worst the British could do is deport him ... to Ecuador.

I am pretty sure that Britian has to 'approve' a diplomat. You can't just send anyone you want to another country to be your diplomat, the rights the embassy and employees has is by the grace of the receiving country. First they agree to you establishing an embassy, then to who your ambassadors and diplomats are.
What I find strange is why Britain has any interest in the issue and doesn't just want him gone as fast as possible to anywhere else. He has done nothing to Britain, is not a British citizen, has released nothing damaging and the only damage he is doing is being on British soil, using the British courts to air his dirty laundry.
If they found some Polish hardmen and had him kidnapped and sent him to France then the French would have all the issues and Britain could stay calm and carry on.
But any which way, his notion that people should seek refuge in central american countries that have poor human rights records, only semi-democratic governments, extensive histories of abuductions and outside influences - and not face a civil court in Sweden - one of the most democratic and socialist countries in the world seems to me to reinforce the opinion Assagne has more subversive motovations in his life than those he purports to despise.
Do you think he has a better chance evading the US authorities through a Swedish court, or through hiding under a leaf from the helicopter gunships in the jungles of Ecuador ? If the US really want him his best bet might be asylum in Pakistan, I hear there is a fortified compound close to some military headquarters that may be available, and is apparently very hard for the US to find (no internet connection though).
Yep,
if he is sent to Sweden then it won't be long before Assange ends up in the USA where the best he could hope for is a 10 year prison sentence in a federal prison. The worse, who knows? Indefinite detention and eventual death.
Sweden is now a very close ally of America. Recently Swedish diplomats have been kicked out of Belarussia because of some Swedish teddy bears being airdropped over Belarussia to incite democratic feelings there. Strange but true.
If Julian can't leave the emabassy perhaps he can set up a court there and give lectures on how bad the yanks are like he did yesterday.
^ Why would UK have to approve extradition from SWE? And if it's easier to extradite from UK why haven't they done so? What will they charge him with if he goes to the US, or will it be a simple held indefinitely without charge?
Confused about the whole thing really.
JA is a goner. The speppos have sent the dogs out and have no intention of pulling back. He may as well buy a ticket to LA.
What Julian has done is not illegal. For example every major newspaper has also published the leaked documents, are their actions just as illegal too? Why not? Same thing. Exactly.
But ironically, what Julian has done is prove himself right . By exposing a big, bad sometimes ruthless, two faced government that is beyond the law, and that acts on its own terms, seemingly without reproach, he has proven just that. It exists Julian.
He perhaps should have listened to himself.
ironically, what Julian has done is hide the truth behind a smokescreen
What Julian is alledged to have done is to have had sex with two women against their consent in Sweden.
The women complained to the Swedish police, who investigated and asked the Swedish courts to issue an extradition warrant to Britian so they could question him.
No government of any country has, at this stage, instigated any judical or police action against Julian for leaking or publishing any documents.
What Julian has done is convinced the world that the world is out to get him.
Some ask why the Swedish police can't travel to Britian to question him to break the apparent deadlock. Perhaps any such questioning can't then be used in any Swedish court case ??
Perhaps if the Swedish poilice could travel then Julian himself could make a signed statement witnessed by the Ecuadorian ambassador regarding the allegations against him and his version of the circumstances surrounding them.
Perhaps if wikileaks released a witnessed statement from Julian to the Swedish authorities detailing the events of those nights and any supporting details then the principal of discovering the truth might be upheld a little better than yelling 'They want to kill me for telling the truth' from a balcony to a small, but one sided, crowd below whilst completely ignoring the immediate issue at hand.
Maybe.
A few weeks ago I think 4 Corners ran a story about Julian Assange's Swedish exploits. The makers of the program argued there isn't any black and white where Assange did something wrong or illegal. The women liked him as could be seen in video of conferences he was attending.
Somehow along the line the women met each other and started talking. Thats how the complaints started.
