It all began when some guy (think someone like Laurie but way geekier and not nearly as cool) was trying to model the weather.

Did he have a mullet to the power of 10 also?

So this is tied in with chaos theory etc?

Pretty interesting stuff how abstract geeky number crunching can and does predict seemingly random events/reactions that maybe aren't so random after all.

Then again if it weren't for this stuff we would never have had that sooper stoopid 'Numbers' TV show. Damn Mandelbrot!

P.S. I'll take a random set of (.(.) instead thanks.

Apparently It could be used to reproduce exact copies of life forms.

Of which there is an infinite numebr going on and on and on...?
Can somebody do a Jennifer Hawkins-Madelbrot?
Or maybe a Hilary Mandelbrot-Duff

Out of interest there is a great documentary on the man himself and the maths behind fractal geometries on SBS as I type this. It's titled "Hunting the Hidden Dimensions" and it started at 9.30 AEST.

...I hate to admit I watched a doco on mathematics, but it was a much better explanation than Wikipedia.

Watched that hoping to get an insight into fractals...more confused now, although good doco.

I was too young in ther 70's to remember any of those shirts in the doco, but I will check my dad's wardrobe next time I see him.
