Something to consider if you keep weapons in the house is the intruder might take it off you and use it on you.
Nothing like having a good sized dog around the house.
Two overnight home invasions in Perth
Home invaders have bashed an elderly couple in Perth and in another incident a young couple barricaded themselves in their bedroom as intruders smashed through their front door.
A 73-year-old man and his 68-year-old wife were at home in Maylands in Perth's inner east at around 10.30pm (WST) on Wednesday when three men with towels covering their faces forced their way in, police said.
The couple were punched in the head and threatened with a large screwdriver as the offenders demanded money, Sergeant Gerry Cassidy said.
He said one offender stayed with the couple while the other two spent about an hour ransacking their home before the trio fled with money, a mobile phone and a camera.
The couple were taken to hospital for treatment of head injuries.
In another home invasion only hours later at Morley in Perth's inner north early on Thursday a young couple heard their front door being smashed in and quickly barricaded themselves in their bedroom, Sgt Cassidy said.
When the offenders could not get in through the bedroom door they went back outside and smashed the bedroom window, he said.
The couple called police from their bedroom and the offenders fled before officers arrived.
Police were investigating whether the two attacks were committed by the same offenders.http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/8284470/two-overnight-home-invasions-in-perth
I agree WA is the new violence capital!!![]()
My wife was at the post office in Mandurah yesterday when bodies were being hurled into walls!! a group of f/wits started beating someone ,
a woman ran into the post office calling for security, WTF this was at 4pm in the arvo!!
She was very lucky not to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. I cant wait to get out of here!!!!!
if u have weapons be prepared for them to be used against you. And most people who take weapons to fights or have them incase some breaks in arent generally the bravest of people and when it comes down to smashing a junkie they get scared!
Brilliant... I'm moving to Shenton Park in 2 weeks time. Just what I wanted to hear! I thought Australia was safe...
... oh, hang on, I'm in London at the moment...
Like adolf says, I'd hate to feel afraid where I live. I've been here in the 'burbs for about 25 years. Yes, we did get a couple of things stolen from the yard back when we didn't have fences. And we've had one break-in while we were away on holidays where they took a small TV and some cheap jewelry (sadly worth far more in sentimental value than monetary).
Meanwhile, I leave my boat out on the driveway unlocked, complete with portable outboard. Gates are unlocked. Shed full of tools is unlocked. No dog. No concerns about going out at night for a walk or bike ride (until I get to the highway on the bike. Then it's another story). No problem.
I think I'd move if I had to barricade myself in.
In a previous life, I worked in a maintenance crew in a steelmill. One of guys used to collect all of the old washers that were normally thrown away.
Seems he had one of those large (20 litre or so) 'beer can' money boxes, the type that are printed as a beer can and completely sealed except for a small slot on the top, big enough for a 50c piece.
His theory was that most house burglars are looking for quick cash and would probably not be able to pass up a large money box full of coin. Given the weight of one of these babies (even when they are half full), the scumbag thief would probably not be able to carry anything else.
His only regret was not being able to see the look on their faces when the 'prize' was opened. ![]()
Once I was bored at work so I used the flash printer they had in the marketing dpt, It was one of the first that could do 2 sides (few years ago) and I printed couple of pages of $ 100 and $ 50 notes, I made them look old and used to make them in a neat roll that I would leave laying on the coffee table hoping that if some sheet for brain would break in he would take the lot and run vert happy!
They were really good looking I fooled a few mates.... at a party I had them all in a bowl on the table with a note reading "free money take what you need" was fun till someone told me I could spend years in jail for forgery so I burnt the lot! ![]()
^^^ admitting to something like that on a public forum is a good way to spend years in prison for counterfeiting.
So, the west has nice weather and good beaches.
But:
- the surf is full of bad tempered locals who will vandalise vehicles and assault people.
- home invasions are so common that (so called) law abiding people have weapons all over the place.
- innocent bystanders (and sometimes not so innocent) are charged and found guilty of murders they did not commit.
Fritz the Cat was a naughty little pussy.![]()
