Looks like NBN just published the next phase rollout plans:www.nbn.gov.au/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/12-month-rollout.pdf
and http://www.nbnco.com.au/assets/media-releases/2011/maps-12-month-rollout-hr-18-oct-2011.pdf
Anyone here lucky enough to be on the list?
Hint: not me ![]()
how fast is fast? i use a mobile USB port next G, gives me blink time and its there
in a flash!
what a waste of money that could be put in to health or some other worth while project![]()
Who's lucky?
At the cost of $42bil (= 6 world class major capital city hospitals), I'd say none of us.
Can't wait for GDP to triple as touted by the pro-NBN people, but can't see it happening unfortunatley.
Looks like the Gero crew will be posting here more though ![]()
Here in Shoalwater we are expecting underground power and the removal of the outdated power poles at great cost to the residents.
Why they haven't glued the NBN onto this project astounds me. If your digging up the joint why not run the cabling at the same time?
I'm going to say this once and go away.
You can't move data faster than light speed. BY DEFINITION THE NBN IS 100% F'EN FUTURE PROOF.
Galah... I got 2 suburbs close to me on that list.. D'oh!
Bugger! The map shows the coverage area has a 'chunk' out of the corner that includes my block ![]()
It will be about 200m west and about 200m south of my place.
So close, yet so far away....
Looks like if you are in Tasmania you get lots of balloons. Why do they get so many balloons compared to the rest of us? The whole place is covered in them with different colours!
I can't get fiber to my socket soon enough
.
No seriously, I've been farking around with my ISP for the past 3 months trying to get my sync speed back to the 18000kps down and 2300kps up.
I've been off line for a week, had speeds ~130kps up, they've sent out 3 telstra people, 2 visiontek people and another on the way.
My pings are CRAP and I feel like I'm living in a 3rd world country. I don't have a TV antenna or a phone line, so my internet connection is essential.
And no NBN where I am ![]()
To those who are happy with their old school BS, 3G... you remind me of my barber. Hey wot u talking bout, my normal TV with Foxtel looks just as good as dis new HD rubbish. No Roco, you have macular degeneration (look what you've done to my hair), your TV is blurry and it's hard to read the text.
I WANT FIBER NOW!
I am lucky as I have it already. Was part of the technology package I bought with my block of land in Capricorn estate in Yanchep, it is great and super fast, I have all on 1 line (TV, Foxtel, phone, internet). I payed for it so I have no bad feelings about it.![]()
It isn't about speed, Mark, it's about bandwidth. The more you have, the more you can do.
An example - I'd like to scrap my phone and cable tv and just have a (bit bigger) broadband connection that I can run all that through. That'd save me over $100 a month even once I factor in the extra for a bigger download limit. Trouble is, I've tried VOIP before and gave up because my broadband upload speed wasn't able to handle the volume of data being thrown at it. That meant that I could hear people I was talking to clearly but sometimes what I was saying would end up being garbled at their end. So I gave up for now. Meaning I can't save myself money because my broadband speed isn't up to it. Also, as we get more bandwidth, new ideas about what to use it for will be created. That boils down to new industries and new jobs.
Hell, when I were at skool there WERE no compooters except in them science fikshun books. Now look!
12 millibits per second is pretty slow by the way. I used to get 300 bits per second with my first-ever modem back in the early 80's.
can someone explain to me what the point of NBN is? all this extra bandwidth, does this mean we get more wind and waves?
if not, then wtf does anyone care, so you can facebook faster? as a taxpayer, i'll be honest i reckon there are bigger issues around then this.
^^^^
and faster internets = more jobs. As in:
based on this we should be spending the money on doors that go *wooosh* and spaceships that go hyperspace!
So does all this mean that spadger & boobiac I want to maybe have a gander at will be on my lap in "blinkspeed"???? bring NBN on if yes!![]()
