Is there a better deal than this http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/bodybuilding-platinum-series/protogen.html in local shops?

With shipping it's A$57 for the 3.5lb (1.6kg).

I've used protein powder for nearly 30 years, the best one in my opinion is called designer whey, I have used other cheaper ones but they gave me gas leading me to believe they were perhaps made from cheaper sourced materials.
Who knows maybe even poisonous stuff from China ends up in the cheaper protein powder. That is what they have done before, added a cheap poison to protein powder used in baby food to fool the quality testing and artificially boost the protein percentage. I pay about $43 US for 2 kg.

After your workout, your body is most receptive to using amino acids to repair muscle tissue, while using carbohydrates to restore muscle glycogen.

One of the best post-workout options is chocolate milk... giving you the optimal protein source found in milk.

Have you tried it? I like that it hasn't got any flavoring.

Since breaking a rib 4 weeks ago, I've turned to mush.

Yeah, we ordered some specifically because it didn't have flavouring, can't stand the flavoured crap. Turns out they lied and they do use flavouring, arse flavouring. This is the most rancid crap I've ever put in my mouth, Lise tried it first, had a gobful and yacked straight into the sink.
I thought she must've been exaggerating and tried it and nearly yacked too and this was in a fresh mango and mint smoothie.
Truly rancid stuff.

Cheap though

Max's Supershred is a good one, been using for a while, works well; good value here too, I haven't been able to find a better price anywhere, would be well interested to hear if someone does.

And taste's good mixed with water too, even better with skim milk every now & then.

Skim milk powder has as much protein as the expensive powders you get from the health shops.

You don't need to use it like that, done the right way you can build strength without the massive bulk.
Besides, most dudes who look like the 'condom full of walnuts' got that way by using steroids.

Not sure about cheapest but the Punish Gear is the best we have tried.

I know a bunch of professional kickboxers, paddlers and athletes that use this stuff, the cleanest all natural on the market. No sugars or fillers.

The flavours are great as well.

Are you using it to avoid eating (other stuff) because of your broken rib? I found in the past that it was easy to feel full on this stuff. I think this is what Sustagen (Gold?) is meant for, when you can't eat real food, as it also has other additives to keep you nourished.

I could never stand drinking protein powder with water, and always mixed it with milk.

I was using VP2, although I am sure there are many others out there now.

You pay for quality, if you want a chocolate milkshake it's far easier to just buy chocolate milk. Serious, it's good stuff, people I know that use it say they would never go back to use anything else.

To reiterate, even though I'm typing, this stuff is natural, no frills. I use it to keep in good condition when I'd normally work too hard and eat too little, especially in summer.
3kg=$45! I also recommend it to my old aunt who is wasting away since her hubby passed away. As you say, use it right and it's magic stuff.

Easy to sound like a boss without evidence to back up your claims. Could the people you know now go hard at an endurance activity for consecutive long days?

...fitness experts advise consumers to venture cautiously.
Dr Louise Burke, the head of sports nutrition at the Australian Institute of Sport, said that while protein supplements were an everlasting favourite in sports nutrition, many people were wasting their money in the types they chose and the way they took them.
"Everybody who goes to the gym these days thinks they need an ultra expensive super-scientific sounding protein supplement but it's often unwarranted."

In my own limited experience, protein powder seemed to reduce the recovery pain after successive workouts. If I took none, I would feel sore about 3 days later. If I took a protein drink relatively soon after the session, there would be none or much less soreness days later.

Of course, I have read that most of the protein is effectively passed straight through you, but it has made a difference for me. If only I could get as motivated again :)

The only evidence I have is what I feel and what others tell me they also feel. This is not a heavily marketed brand, mostly by word of mouth amongst people that make training their life.

I'm no athlete, I do not go to gyms unless I have no other option. I am into paddle sports, I paddle competitive in Canoe and also train with pro SUP paddlers, this means running, cross training and at least 4 up to 6 paddle sessions per week plus surfing for fun.

Using this stuff properly within the windows you should allows me to train, recover, train and back up. Prior to this and with a bad diet which is equally important my body could only handle so much. I'd miss sessions while my mates didn't as something was missing. Literally felt like my muscles tearing from the bone.

This stuff is not a mass builder, it's why fighters, paddlers, ironmen and athletes use it. Not mirror warmers in the Gym. Clean protein, clean diet, hard work. Check the ingredients in any supplements list, this is the cleanest I have seen.

I've actually learnt a whole lot this year about Nutrition, what to eat and when, it's changed my life. Seriously.

The only powder that makes me feel good and strong is cocaine, but is very expensive if you guys are buying it by the kilo.
But seriously, surely eating natural foods full of protein would be better for you than man made substitutes????

Why? A lot of these things are almost pure whey protein, and in an amount that would take a huge amount of food intake to replicate. Whey protein, which is made from milk.

I think you would be flat out eating that much chicken breast to get the same amount of protein.

I only know that it made training easier for me. A side effect is that it made me feel full, which is what I think a lot of these 'diet-shakes' are using.

Protein powder all depends on what works best for you (no bloating and results) I've tried health food no flavoured protein this is the worest you can get, I've tried Maxs ( they have a good Casein protein), Cytosport, Horleys, Aussie Bodies, Body Science (stuff is expensive if your not sponsered), MHP, Musashi (best cheap bulk, yes it bulks) Muscletech, but by far the best is ON followed by a close second being Scivation. Both deliver a great amount of BCA's & L-Glutamine, Low fat & Carbs and the largest amount of protein per grams per serve. Both have helped me with the best strength results and lack of stomach bloating.

Like anything, you get what you pay for.
