A little help please.

My daughter sent this to me about 5 years ago. I still can't work out what it is.

Can anyone offer a (sensible) solution.

What can run but has no legs
Can be fast but never when it runs
Is close to death but never lived?
Is used to protect but is not a gun
Shows great knowledge but has no brain

The computer virus program seems to fit most of the criteria. I'll try that and get back to you

Doggie you seem pretty close but I wonder about this bit

"Is close to death but never lived?"

Still reckon mine is the only one that fits all categories

What can run - ink
Can be fast but never when it runs - can be colourfast but obviously not when it runs
Is close to death but never lived? - Writing in ink close to death due to email etc
Is used to protect but is not a gun - Writing protects (laws etc)
Shows great knowledge but has no brain - Writing = knowledge onbviously

What does man love more than life?
Fear more than death or mortal strife?
What do the poor have, what the rich require,
And what contented men desire?
What does the miser spend, the spendthrift save,
And all men carry to their graves?

That is brilliant. I wonder if the questioner delved as deep? I still await a reply from her.
