I am suggesting we kill the very few that attack people.
Oiy sharky, you starving mate? Right kill that one.
Oiy sharky you like humans? Right you're dead.
Wait maybe that's what the shark's doing... Oiy human you ate shark, my turn.
Well, you could try that,.. but,.
I was thinking more along the lines of a number of recent and previous occasions in this area when people have been attacked and the fisheries and water police followed the shark around for a few days while the government ministers blustered and flustered, trying to make a decision on what to do.
Eventually, after two days or so, when they finally decided that the shark should be terminated,... surprise surprise,. it could then not be found.
Gee,. who could have imagined that?
Had a policy been put in place prior to any of these occasions the offending shark could have been terminated without having to resort to any of the methods you list.
It's stupidities like the lack of such policy which leads many to believe that there is no hope of catching the right shark.
Sometimes it might be impossible, sometimes just difficult, but other times it will be easy.
At the moment it's always impossible because the system is set up to ensure that it is.
It needs changing.

I doubt seal population in NZ is relevant.
I'd be pretty hungry if I'd just swum from NZ to SW Australia.

New Zealand fur seals live here in Australia top of the food chain for the whites.

Didn't get past the name NZ fur seal??
They live in WA and are surging in numbers.

Haha yep, haven't had the morning coffee yet! Fair point.
Cray fishermen put large spikes in there pots to keep the seals out they found a solution.
What we are really looking for is a deterrent/warning to keep the sharks out of our bays. Its not anything to do with which living creature is causing the chain of events.
Culling large amounts of marine life to protect our beaches is inhuman and shouldn't be the Aussie way of thinking.
It's not going to happen!
Most of the world are trying to protect sharks obviously apart from some Asian country's and some hardcore fishermen.
We need to stay focused on what can be done not what needs to be removed or culled.
Common sense dictates that there is no way of measuring with any degree of accuracy the numbers of White Sharks in the oceans. Scientists who state otherwise are having a lend of us.
All we have, as I see it is anecdotal evidence. This anecdotal evidence is clearly pointing toward a massive increase in shark numbers.
But common sense tells you it okay to wipe out a Apex predator for the largest eco system on the planet
With out any repercussions![]()
Have you ever read any of the scientific evidence regarding our oceans![]()

Yep and one reason is there is less predators then before. More seal friendly nets/trawlers and wait for it , less Great Whites
Have you ever seen just how hard it is for a Great White to catch and kill a seal? They don't just order it over the counter. SO just because we have more seals doesn't 100% equate to more accessible food for Great whites..
But it will make them hang around and try their luck more, sadly bringing more sharks to an area.
Once you would get a few seals at Cathedral rocks, now its all year round colony, and growing..Everyone says seals are more of an issue. Well lets hope they never decide to start attacking us because then we could be in trouble..
Also on eco systems with the rapid growth in NZ fur seal numbers we now have situations were the seals are killing of the fairy penguins. In Vic they are getting close to a point of collapse. Lets hope the tourism companies don't mind just rolling over and losing there business's, so that we can cull a few sharks and surf safer
Life is a big daisy chain, upset it and who knows what happens..![]()

But wait, there's less sharks cause we're fishing them out.
Yet there's more seals, they must be surviving on love and flowers.
More fish = more seals
more seals = more sharks
it's a cyclic ecosystem, which you claim to be an expert on, that's how they work.

Yeah and humans have such a good ability to cause havoc..
It was said by a very smart man,
We are all living on a giant space ship, cruising along and us humans are the passengers aboard the ship. The crew looking after us are the plants, the animals, the worms the entire eco system we live in. The only problem is the passengers are consuming the crew at a rate that will eventually see us spinning out of control and no one to look after us eventually bring about our own demise![]()
Here's my 2 cents worth..........
As humans - we are changing the environment and that's something we can't easily stop. The great white was the Apex predator - but now it's us. (according to my quick internet search) 30% of great white attacks have been historically fatal, but now it's more like 100% - so it seems like sharks are eating us rather than just taking that 'curious bite' (a few of the 11 bodies were not recovered).
We are removing a large proportion of the food chain (for food and sport) but we're not allowed to take the sharks. I think it's that this is causing an imbalance, and the sharks are having to look elsewhere for food. The best way to rectify this would be to stop fishing and leave more natural food for the sharks. That's never going to happen - so the next best option is to rectify the imbalance by equally taking all parts of the food chain (which includes the sharks). There will still be less food - but also less sharks competing for that food.........it sounds like its more humane to the sharks than letting them all compete for less food (and forcing them to starve or eat boney humans). Surely killing all parts of the food chain equally (but not completely) will have less adverse affect on the environment than selectively leaving some parts alone.

Exactly, that why everyone wants the sharks to stop consuming the crew.

Whats the saying "Its not until the last tree is cut down, the last fresh water supply gone or polluted and the last fish caught from the wild, will we as humans be truly happy with ourselves and what we have accomplished" ![]()

You will have to put up something to show that we are anywhere close to chopping up the last GW shark before that statement carries any weight in this circumstance.
So far, all indications are that their numbers are increasing and maybe that's what's causing the problem.
Do you have any data to disprove that? Or are we now just conserving everything to excess?

So, seems to be a 5m hanging around lefties again.
But it couldn't be the same shark, right?
He'd decided he didn't like the taste of people and is miles away by now, right?
