Ok .......so i am all for helping people in retail, even when they are not australian and have limited english speaking skills............................

BUT FOR SH!TS SAKE! If you are going to come into my store wanting to know specifics about a particular item, you should............

a) Know what the hell the item you are looking for it is called, or at least try and get creative with some god damn body language so i have some sort of idea, hell just point at it! just dont stand there and stare at me thinking i am the all powerful, all knowing subconsious mindreader and that i know what you want from the grunting " ape like" noises you are making.

b) Pointing and saying " aaaahhhhh yes yes " to everything i say is only going to get you so far. If i ask you if you are planning on rock, beach or boat fishing........"aaahhhhhhhh yes yes" is not gunna cut it.

c) ok, so you know some english do you? Well i am here to tell you stringing a bunch of english words together that makes absolutely no sense is about as useful as airconditioning on a motorbike. It's called a SENTENCE, try using one that is understandable. If not, you might as well go back to grunting......

d) Why do you insist on asking me the same question over and over again? You asked and i told you the answer 3 mins ago. You asked again, and i gave you the same answer again. You ask a third time, and you can now see that i am now trying to use sign body language to explain the answer as well as saying it as though i am speaking to a 5 year old, it's a good sign that soon i am gunna get sick of this sh!t and sell you something that doesn't suit your needs, just so you can feel the frustration that i am feeling.

e) why is it though all of you and your english language slaugtering mates have the " how much? " part down pat? And dont play dumb and look like you dont understand the price and quote me back a price that is totally irrelevant to what i just said. If anything, now you have frustrated me, i am only going to charge you EXTRA, not less.

Rant over. sorry peeps.

Aaaaaahh.

That's what I call the 7 year theory.

I worked in retail, then moved to wholesale. From my own experience and asking other people once they reach this point it was an average of 7 years.

7 years before you can no longer be nice for the sake of being nice.

7 years before when you say 'g'day' to someone and they say 'just looking' as their reply that you start to give smart arse responses in reply like 'Oh really, well it's your lucky day browsing is free today' or 'I just said g'day mate, I havent even started to sell you anything yet'.

7 years until you tell people that 'no we are not in Brazil mate, the price is the price'

7 years until you start to treat customers just as they treat you because you're sick of being treated like a 2nd class citizen.

7 years until you start saying to people 'look mate, I know you want a good deal but stop acting like you know everything because you read it on the internet and trying to act tough. You want it, I want to sell it to you, lets treat each other with some respect and save each other a lot of hassle eh?'

I buy everything (except kiting gear) over the net it's awesome.
1.- Checkout youtube google reviews
2.- Check price on shopbot > ebay.com.au > ebay.com
3.- Place order with delivery to work
4.- Wait until I get an email saying I have a package at reception
5.- Get all excited like it's Christmas

Way better than.
1.- get in the car
2.- wait in traffic
2.1.- get road rage
3.- wait in car park
4.- get car park rage
5.- get crowd rage
6.- waste 20 minutes googling the product on phone
7.- search for attendant
7.1.- wait to be attended
7.2.-get attended by tard
8.- get ripped off
9.- get in car
10.- wait to get out of car park
11.- get car park rage again
12.-...
13...
14...
15.- Get home only to discover the damn fish tank is missing a piece!
16.- Do it all over again

With ebay, people will make sure it has all the pieces or they get bad feedback. I remember buying a suction camera mount for $4, and a bolt had rust on it, so I told the seller and they sent me a new one... from China.

it is so unfortunate that this is the norm it is so sad when ones happyness or survival is dependant on a bowl of rice i used to depend on local made stuff ............. hope i'm not showing my age ... .... did the second bolt come with rust or did it develope over time

Red thumb away my friends.

To be honest i was just having a bad day, and of course i serve these customers as well as i would serve other customers.

Let me try and give some perspective.

Things ARE cheaper on the net, and sometimes it is easier. On a few occasions, i have even suggested to customers they have a look. I am honest with customers, i am not looking for their hard earned money, I would rather they got something that best suited thier needs, and if i dont think we have it, i will say so.

I can spend over half an hour or more talking to customer and giving them advice, even if they aren't going to spend a cent, i know they are greatful for any tips, and i certainly dont mind helping them.

For instance, a typical customer comes in looking for something, to perform a high level of customer service, i need to ask questions, so that i can provide the best possible advice and products that will best suit their needs. The more info i can get, the more i can narrow down what it is that they will need.

If someone comes in and can tell me what they want, what they want to use it for, how often, how much they want to spend..etc etc i can generally save them alot of time by pointing them in the right direction, giving reasons why i think such things would suit there needs.

So case in point, if your english is limited to yes, no and how much, i can only do the best i can.I guess its just frustrating.

.......continue now, the thumbing of the red.............

Most of you guys have nailed it.

Most Aussies are too proud to work in retail because all the other Aussies treat the person behind the counter like crap.

"Im entitled to a refund"
"I was mislead"
"this is not service"
etc
etc

Too many people watch Today Tonight and as a result the retailer suffers...

I stopped that by charging a quote fee that would not apply if the customer would go-ahead with the job, must ppl found it acceptable and payed. A few times I had complains, even I would told the customer b4 starting the quote what the deal was, so I refused to return the equipment before getting payed ( I was fixing cleaning machinery). Once it got very dirty so I returned a pressure washer in a big box totally dismantled bit by bit, to see the face of the customer was valued well over the couple of lost hours![}:)]
But I know it would be a bit hard when you quote on a service.

Most retail attendants can tell you some stories about seriously seriously nasty customers.

Remember 90% of these guys earn minimum wage (10-17$ per hour depending on there age and industry)

MY ADVICE- IF YOU SEE SOMEONE GIVING IT TO A RETAILER, STEP IN AND GIVE IT TO THE CUSTOMER !!

These dudes dont get paid enough to take bad treatment.

Don't get me started on - "I know my rights", "Ill contact the ACCC" or "my brother is solicitor".

Would love to charge and comes of the price at the end but when all our competitors do it for free, what can you do. Its ok.

Service in general is absolutly sh>te in WA, to much work/jobs here for anyone to give a f??k. Lucky if they turn up to work.

My favorite saying from shop staff to customers is "you right" wtf does that mean.

Mate of mine used to run a tyre franchise. I went in there one day and he was dealing with a particulary nasty customer. After said custoner left, I said to my friend, How do you tolerate that kind of F!%kwit, he said "people are usually really good, only about 1 in a hundred act like that, come to think about it, I probably get a hundred people in here every week". Must take a curtain kind of person to take that crap week in week out.

Customers can be a freaking pain This week i worked for 2 days both raining building a frame for them to come out just before i sheeted the roof to tell me its not what they wanted this post here etc etc i have asked them every step of the way were do u want this etc . I dont sell the job there not in a contract with me i just subby to build them of course i wont get paid for this work as i only get paid for finished jobs the salesman who sold the job is away on holidays so after walking off the job they will have to wait for him to get back from holidays & recover from the kick in the nuts that i want to give him and then i will go back and rebuild it this time to what they desire what they told the salesman they wanted so i could start a thread what a pain salesmen and customers r just b thankfull ur not a builder . The whole job needs to be reordered as the size is not big enough apparently. But the funniest thing is when i left site & come home all i heard was whinging from the wife on how she got stuffed around going to pick up family portrates which im not in(not happy ) and they werent ready & how she wasted 1 hr baby jesus help me i must have heard that for 2 hrs.i did offer to go pick up the photos & i havnt said anything at all about this because if i did i would be whinging . The real balance is that............................

The sales professional is the front line troop and hero of the "Free Enterprise System" in which we live.

No truck leaves a depot, no locomotive leaves a freight yard, no ship leaves a port and no light gets switched on before somebody has sold something to somebody else.

The biggest problem is that "Sales Professionals" are in short supply.

In the "Free Enterprise System" you have "Sales Professionals" distributing the wealth.

In the "Socialist System" you have bureaucrats metering out the shortfall.

That is about what the Ranga and her lot are doing today. Paltry Pricks
