Got a rent inspection yesterday and no pets allowed.

Put my 10 year/old cat in the car till inspector left.

Problem, she kept hanging around checking other units.

Thought i'd go around to Post Office and pay a bill while waiting.

Got into the car to drive back home and not thinking it got out,ran across Albany Hwy,got hit by front wheel. Just screamed, other bloke thinking clearer than me picked it up.

Got hit in the back leg, broken, other leg dislocated.Else looks ok thankgod.

Spent sleepless night holding it in one position to stop the screams.

Sure puts this ego thing into perspective.

Picking it up from surgery in next hour.

Should've just made it a tinfoil hat and you could've passed it off as a visiting nephew.

One of my cats also got hit by a car on the weekend. They're pretty dumb but it's a quiet street. Driver didn't stop , someone else knocked on the door.

Cat got lucky, 300 bucks later and it seems he just went straight under, rolled over, and lost a big patch of fur on his head and a few other places, but no lasting damage.

Sorry to hear it PM.

Karma. We have a rental and the last tenants had a cat when they weren't suppose to and it ripped all the fly screens and blinds. Not to mention they kill all the wildlife.

Just go and buy a house if you can Peter, Just a few months you were knocking home owners in some sort of goverment housing market crash conspiracy !!!!;-)
One of the advantages of purchasing a house you can have a cat ! Feed the bust into a boom !!!!

For $1000 you'd be able to keep a few spares in the boot.

Gee Pweet, if that's you living under the next freeway overpass north of mine, which we moved into on your advice of selling everything and buying silver some years ago, you should know that you can't keep pets while living under an overpass. They run out onto the freeway and can be seriously hurt. I'm surprised you didn't know that.
And what's all this talk about inspections? The only inspections I've had are the MRD engineers who sometimes do maintenance inspections on the overpass and they never bother me at all.
Sometimes they even let me lick out their empty lunch boxes,. while I sit here waiting for the silver price to rocket up.
You can move down and share mine if you get thrown out of yours, but you will have to promise me not to talk about conspiracies and chemtrails.
How much longer do you think it will be before I can cash in my silver? I'm getting a bit tired of waiting and winter's setting in,... again. And all I've got to keep warm is an old BIC cigarette lighter which some bogan threw out the window as they roared past. And it's still quarter full! How lucky is that?

(only joking. Sorry to hear your poor little moggy has taken a hit. I know how stressful that sort of stuff can be.
They do have nine lives though and heal up pretty well.)

I hope your cat's okay. Sometimes animals are stupid and don't realise the danger they can get themselves into. Get yourself a small cage to keep the cat in next time you do this, just to make sure its okay.

I used to hate rent inspections. Some places do them well and don't muck you around, yet others seem to take delight in being a PITA.

I have tenants that have two cats. If I had my choice I wouldn't have them there, but as long as they can repair or pay for the damage when they move out, I don't mind.

I am sure you feel better paying the 1k than losing the cat, so gear is not that important.

Are cats dumb or do they just have owners (who claim to love them) who let them out to run amuck and do whatever they wish

Peter, sucks about the cat but you live and learn. Did you go to a 24hour vet? Balcatta is alright but perth vet emergency in osb park are very good.

I think cats are for people that want a low maintenance pet that tells you when to feed it and pet it. The rest of the time its someone else's problem.

I don't think they are dumb. They are well suited to being a predator, unfortunately not such a great thing for local wild life.

Spoke to a friend and he thinks i'm nuts to pay 1k,reckons i can get another one for free. That i should pay $100 for the put down jab.The stress of doing that would not be worth the $900 saving and besides it's not the right thing to do.

Going to fed it anti-establishment diet to get it back well quick. Raw milk for sure, full of neutrients unharmed from pasteurization and wild salmon should do the trick.

Lol can't miss an opportunity eh? I think it's more likely to be the science and big pharm meds the vet is using that do the trick

pm33, not trying to start a CT here of course, but have you seen all the latest correlations between toxoplasmosis ( spread by cats ) and male mental health?

Our cat just cost us $2500, currently on its 6th life. Does not make way for cars...

I don't have a cat, but are they able to drink cow's milk without problems? I know when I first got a dog I made the mistake of letting her drink cows milk and it definitely caused problems with her stomach and all over the grass...

I think humans are rare mammals in that we have evolved the ability to consume another mammals milk (well some of us have anyway).

You like your pet, you pay to keep it. If you thought about it in financial terms you wouldn't bother getting any pets.

No, PM made a genuine mistake with his situation but all these other cat owners who bitch and moan when their cats end up hit by cars, lost, in fights etc only have themselves to blame. They made that choice to let their cats do whatever it likes.

There is no reason cats cant be kept inside or in a cat run outside. Take it outside on a harness etc. Its called responsible pet ownership

Not disputing some cat and dog owners are terrible. So are some parents for that matter.
But you were replying to my comment saying my cats were dumb implying that I was dumb because I let them run amuck. Which is wrong and got my hackles up.

You're also generalising. Saying all cats can only be outside in a run is about as justifiable as saying all dogs can only be outside on a chain.

What are the laws regarding cats being kept in your yard?
Are they allowed to roam free, or do they laws say they must be kept in your yard?

They need to be shot on-sight if roaming in public...true!

I'm not a cat fan (in fact I can't stand the smug b*stards!) But, from having pets (dogs, budgies, turtles) since a kid, I sypmathise with you PM & hope your mog gets well soon.

Growing up on a farm - the only cost we were allowed to spend on a pet if it was injured was "the cost of a .22 bullet" (to quote my dad).

Now with kids of my own, I'm a lot more lenient. I have an 8yo Jack Russel/Foxy cross and have thought about how much to spend if it needs vet attention. At this stage, the most has been $250 - which hurt!

A friend-of-a-friend was sitting a dog for (another) friend earlier this year and it died whilst in their care...they felt horrible, so took it to the vet to 'dispose' of it...$600! A shovel only costs about $30!

I doubt I'll make any pet-loving friends with my comments.

if your cat carks it you can have the one my tenants left behind when they left in a hurry, still smell the thing when i working round there ,but its just too sly to get in the trap.
I do wonder why people think the NO PETS clause doesnt mean them.then when you explain that they will have to pay for the damage the dog did when they hid it in the bathroom. they get stroppy

It's funny. I've got a lot of mates with wives that I don't like but I wouldn't take the piss if one of them got run over.

Yes, they do kill wildlife but so does concreting over stuff, fishing, removing plants and cutting down trees, and I wouldn't suggest shooting builders, fishermen and landscape gardeners on site. Most of what they kill are old and young animals from species that aren't endangered.
