A simple thread for pics of Tony "Salacious Crumb" Abbott and Christopher "The Poodle" Pyne running for the hills. Salacious, pictured below, has no dignity left after today's episode. He's been attacking the government unceasingly for accepting Thomson's vote, and when Thomson surprised him by crossing the floor to vote with the Libs today, he felt the only option was heading for the hills before the doors were locked.

Here's a few for your amusement:

It was a Thompson stunt to 'force' the Libs into accepting his vote.

I'm not sure who it backfired on, but Abbotts reaction is pretty hilarious - surely the 'dignified' approach is to just accept that in this instance you are voting with him - it's not like Thompsons vote changes the matter that you're voting on. Politics over policy. Again.

Have to agree. Abbott did the NON-hypocritical thing and effectively nullified Thomson's vote. The truly cynical act was from the lefties (as usual) by trying to trap Abbott, off guard, unaware.

Well played Abbott!

They didn't effictively nullify anything, once the speaker says 'lock the doors' then they are counted as being present regardless of whether they manage to dive out before the doors are physically locked.

Yes, the sight of them behaving like schoolkids in parliament floats my boat.

This is doing the rounds too
http://youtubedoubler.com/4e82

The Libs senator Mary Jo Hokey-Pokey Fisher has been recently convicted of assault and theft and yet they accept her "tainted" vote quite happily, which demonstrates the hypocrisy of the whole stunt.

OK, red thumb away. . .

Yes, how is it that we have one of the worlds leading economies, have just topped the OECD Better Life index and yet our parliament is reduced to this rubbish (fkn funny rubbish tho!!!).

This is our Prime Minister in waiting???

KRudd wouldn't have run for the door, he would have just waxed lyrical,

Little Johnny would have thrown Jo Hockey overboard (thus doing us all a favour),

Keating would have stood his ground and verballed his opponents,

Hawkey would have punched their lights out and ravaged their women,

Malcolm Fraser would have had Quentin Bryce drag Craig Thomson out by the ear like the naughty little school boy he is...

but run, none of them would have run.

This is our Prime Minister in waiting...really???

Would Malcolm Turnbull have run?

How is RUNNING OUT OF PARLIAMENT well played? It's like schoolkids refusing to sit next to each in case they catch girl / boy germs.

Bet it's on the news in heaps of countries - almost as dignified as those full on brawls some countries have in their parliaments.

Actually maybe this can be labours secret weapon - just get Thompson to threaten to vote with the liberals on anything and they'll be forced to change their position (kindof like playing opposites), I mean just imagine if Tony didn't totally live up to every promise he's ever made - will the shockjocks start calling him a lier lier pants of fire or something.

The whole thing is a distraction. It is not meant to work. It is there to keep people divided. It is there to keep the establishment in place and there to keep the rest in our place, grinding away. It is quite farked and the sooner they bring out the guillotine the better.

I believe there would have been deeper implications in the voting system if Thompson had successfully "crossed the floor" and the Libs had thereby won the vote to have the gag order lifted. (Which was prevented by Pyne managing to escape before the doors were closed).

If the Libs had won the vote based on Thompson crossing the floor then they would be obliged in the future to grant Thompson a "pair" when (/if?) he has to leave parliament and misses a vote. If Thompson is granted a "pair" then the Libs won't gain anything when Thompson is away from Parliament and misses a vote because someone on the Lib side would miss their vote too and thus cancel out the effect of the Labs having one less vote.

Make sense? Parliamentary system...archaic, confusing, childish...Yes, but a sh!t load better than any other system that's been devised.

Let the games continue...

(One positive from all these antics is...It shows just how stable and mature our system of government is if these are considered to be the important events of our day...No worries about military coups, assassinations, etc. A pretty comfortable life here in Australia).

I gather you don't read any posts other than your own. The post before yours explained it well. Loggy could take a read too.

i do ocasionally choose to read posts other than mine even though i find most of them boring and tedious, im just saying that IMO it was a little childish him trying to run out of parliment like that, i understand why he did it but considering he was the slowest he mose well of not even stood up , considering you think he would be taking votes as he could get them tainted or not

Bull****. You're talking about conventions, not rules. The Libs have threatened in the past to not pair votes and have been forced to back down for being unreasonable (such as people on sick leave and paternity leave).

Abbott and Pyne could have easily sat there and called the government's bluff by pointing out that it was a stunt and refusing to be trapped by it. They would have gained a lot of stature from it and the trap would have blown up in the ALP's face.

Instead they saw the trap and jumped into it with both feet and looked like a pair of dickheads.

Totally agree, lets not forget the background to this.

Abbott and Pyne have said they wouldn't "accept" Thomson's vote. What a bull**** theory that is. You can't not accept someones vote. It's their vote and they'll cast it wherever they want. The vote counts!! And by the way, Abbott has consistently refused pairs......it's what makes him such a desperate, evil **** wit

As a point of interest - he is STILL a sitting member of parliament, he is still THE ONLY representative for his electorate - is Tony suggesting that these people should not be represented (if his vote is so tainted) - doesn't sound very consistent with our democratic process to me.

And does anyone think he wouldn't accept Thompsons vote if he crossed the floor on something significant - say (yet another) motion of no confidence. Principles only count so far.
