Bluey?

Anyway everyone feels sorry for Rudd, how he was shafted by the federal ALP machine. No one really hears about all the people Rudd shafted as he climbed the greasy pole. Rudd expected his workers to do the impossible and many of them left and have nothing good to say about him. So what goes around comes around.

They are politicians. Why do you feel sorry for them?

Howard has spent $190.000 of taxpayers money during the last 6 months. (Figures just released).
At the same time I'm thinking should I repair my sail or not...

Boohoo...poor Kevin...

Mining companies can easily handle a (reduced) super tax.

Fact is the govt has commitments and bills to pay in the near future to get us back to break even.

No ETS, no super tax = no chance of any public spending that would help ALL ozzies (think hospitals, schools, roads, emergency services, etc etc) and more personal tax.

Don't kid yaself it would be differant if the Libs got in, they make big claims, but it will ultimately come from taxing the plebs like me (and you) and not business, to pay for the promises.

Banks n mining should be contributing more - their profits in a time of downturn are obese and obscene.

Dunno what more the govt can do when business has them by the curlies? Disgraceful. I don't remember voting for Rio etc.. must look closer at the ballot paper next time.

Finally, Keating and Hawk lead the country back to break even, Libs ran a good show financially (but very poor culturally) and indeed had the coffers in the bank which Rudd n co (wisely) spent to save the lot of us.

The two big cash cows (ETS + Super tax) got butchered so where to now?

Increase tax on petrol, cigarettes and alcohol. The next big tax increase is on wine where they plan to tax it the same way beer is taxed. No more four litre casks of wine for $10 or $12 boxes of unlabelled wine......

So Howard continues to spend big at the taxpayers expense? In itself thats not a bad thing but I question what has he done in return? If he has promoted Australian interests and industry then thats fair enough and his expenses should be paid out. If he has just been enjoying his life and putting it on the government funded credit card then the card should be cancelled.

Can somebody explain how, if the Government wants to take say 40% of the US$9,000,000,000 it's going to make this year... Australian will be worse off than if Australians make $0.41 per share, and the Government then takes CGT off that?

Most shares are held overseas.

Advert after advert, after f'ing advert... what adverts did KRudd run???

As well as the other points raised - well said.

Last time I looked I didn't vote for "Twiggy" Forrest, Clive Palmer, Chris Ellison and the rest of their punch drunk mates. The government has to be allowed to govern and imposing a resource rent tax ensures that we all share in the abundant wealth that this Nation has.

Far better that taxes come out of the revenue streams of those that can afford it and making obscene profits than out of the pocket of the punter through income and goods and services taxes. They are the ones who demand the infrastructure to support their enterprises, so get them to contribute to it.

The resource rent tax does affect us all, but the overwhelming effect is positive - the only negative effect is on those that are protesting too much.

Taking the resource rent tax off the table will be Julia Gillards first mistake and prove who is actually pulling the strings around here.

The resources industry demands infrastructure? Of course. And, they pay for it. Quite often all of it. Railways, ports etc. The government does build (or assist with building) ports. Companies are charged for using these facilities - the ports operate as businesses and return cash.

The resource rent tax does affect us all, but the overwhelming effect is positive - the only negative effect is on those that are protesting too much.

5-10 year time will be interesting - probably not the best for resource sector employees, suppliers and those that benefit from the resource industry. The 5-10 year post-tax period would be the time of uncertainty where companies develop projects O/S. It will take some significant commodities price increases in this time to make the whole industry attractive again.

Taking the resource rent tax off the table will be Julia Gillards first mistake and prove who is actually pulling the strings around here.

I hope she doesn't, and I am very much opposed to the revenues tax in current form. For me: profits tax = yes, with sensible rates, particularly if companies tax is maintained for resources companies. Revenues tax badged as RSPT is deceptive.

Grateful dead get a raise

THE Rudd Government has wasted $40 million by paying the $900 tax bonus to 16,000 dead people and 27,000 expats living overseas.

The revelations will rock the Government's efforts to sell its $42 billion stimulus package as a nation-building scheme.

And the Australian Tax Office said the level of payments to the dead is likely to go beyond the $14 million so far issued to deceased estates.

The $40 million in wasted payments was revealed by the tax office in confidential documents that confirmed prisoners received the $900 payment.

As well, more than $11 million was spent on "marketing" the cash splash - which has seen about $8 billion paid to 8.7 million people.

Despite racking up more than $300 billion in debt, the Government is sending about $25 million in bonus payments to people living overseas.

Even non-Australians who worked here for at least six months - but then disappeared off shore - have received the cash.

The British and New Zealand economies will benefit the most - with expats living in these countries accounting for 40 per cent of the payments.

Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull will seize on the embarrassing revelations to bolster his claim the Government's $42 billion stimulus package was badly targeted.

Mr Turnbull - estimated to have a personal fortune of $178 million yesterday - called on the Government to "come clean" on how it planned to repay $315 billion in debt.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Treasurer Wayne Swan trumpeted the $900 cash bonus - paid during April and May - as a much-needed shot in the arm for the economy.

The tax office has revealed that 15,934 tax bonus payments have been made to deceased estates so far.

The numbers of dead people receiving the bonus could rise sharply, with 47,111 deceased estates lodging a tax return for the eligible period.

The tax office also admits it had no idea where the payment to dead people actually ends up.

but mineral1 is right, does anyone believe the daily telegraph?

So the bonus was done on those that completed a tax statement for the previous year yer? Can't really whinge that the backpackers or dead got it if they paid tax, there is not currently any other (or better) way for the government to keep track of people contributing to the economy.

So GD did you pay tax that year? Did you follow up on non-payment like the ads on tv and radio said (every 5min).

Senior health care solution -

So you're a sick senior citizen and the government says there is no nursing home available for you - what do you do?

Our plan gives anyone 65 years or older a gun and 4 bullets. You are allowed to shoot 2 MP#65533;s and 2 Ministers #65533; not necessarily dead!

Of course, this means you will be sent to prison where you will get 3 meals a day, a roof over your head, central heating, and all the health care you need! New teeth - no problem. Need glasses, great. New hip, knees, kidney, lungs, heart? All covered. (And your kids can come and visit you as often as they do now).

And who will be paying for all of this? The same government that just told you that they cannot afford for you to go into a home.

Plus, because you are a prisoner, you don't have to pay any income taxes any-more.

IS THIS A GREAT COUNTRY OR WHAT?
