I live off 5-6 hours per night.
I generally hit the sack between 11:30 - 12:30 and rise at 5:30-6am.
Last week I went to bed at 10:30 to catch some more sleep but woke at 4:30 and couldn't sleep anymore.
My body clock is 6 hours max.

To answer your question, check out Ken Davis on itunes and purchase Daintree Rainforest.
Natural sounds of birds, water running, etc will see you pushing ZZZZ's in no time.

Or just jerk off.

Doggie, welcome to older age.., a homeopathic way is Melatonin tablets, it gets me through, but exercise is good as well, as reading the old paperworks or surf mags of surf travel destinations, rather than the electronic versions...
this will guarantee a good night sleep.

There are a number of 'definitely dont's'.

Don't drink lots of alcohol before going to bed.
It puts you to sleep but then wakes you up 4 hours later by generating toxins that wont let you get back to sleep.

Don't drink tea or coffee in the evening.
The caffeine in it makes it hard to sleep for about 4 or 5 hours afterwards.

Don't eat lots of chocolate or sweet things before going to bed.
It gives you a suger high which makes it hard to get to sleep in the first place, but worse still, you then get a sugar low about 4 or 5 hours later which wakes you up and makes it hard to get back to sleep.

Don't eat lots of meat or anything that's hard to digest before going to bed. Even 2 or 3 hours before is not good. Lunch time is fine.
It makes it hard to get to sleep and then you wake up every few hours, until about 6 o'clock in the morning.

You can test if it is a diet thing by having only baked beans and a boiled egg on toast for the evening meal.
And not too much of it.
Half a tin of baked beans on two slices of toast and 1 or 2 boil deggs is more than enough to keep you alive.
If this helps then you will know that what you eat before bed is part of the problem.
As you get older, it almost certainly will be.

Buy some chewable calcium tablets with vit D, ( Healthy Care Super Calcium Complex, dirt cheap because it is just flavoured chalk)
They are the main ingredient of placebos and they really work. (true)
Chew on half of one before you go to bed and leave the taste in your mouth. (vanilla flavoured so it's not bad.)
Chew on the other half when you wake up at 4 in the morning and then go back to bed.
Take a whole one x 2 to test the effect if you like.
Tell us how you get on.

Oh, and if you have an audio disc set of Eckhart Tolle "The Power of Now" then play that very softly when you are trying to doze off.
Listen to disc 1 and/or disc 3 when you are trying to go to sleep.

{edit} I didn't say because it had already been said, but I will repeat it, It's really important to get at least 30 minutes of brisk exercise in the late afternoon.
This can be a swim, sail, jogging, fast walking, mowing lawn, anything which gets your heart rate up a bit.
( I don't think it includes kiting though so don't bother trying that. )

The main ingredient of homeopthic medicines is calcium carbonate, that is chalk.
Skip the homeopathic price tag and just buy the chalk.

see above,.."Buy some chewable calcium tablets with vit D, ( Healthy Care Super Calcium Complex, dirt cheap because it is just flavoured chalk)"
I think it's about $20 for a bucket of 400 tablets from the discount warehouse chemist in Freo.
That's enough to last over a year at one per night.

On a bad night I'll get 7hrs, on a good night I'll get 10hrs.
I sleep like a baby... I love sleeping 10hrs, waking up and having a strong coffee with a homemade nutella croissant.

If you want drug free sleep:
1.- Get a good bed; look @ RRP $4000, but usually sell with 50% off... I find the Beautyrest TruEnergy best.
2.- Noise... I have the AC on, but Dr.Jeffrey Thompson works a treat (CD/flac with good speakers under the bed)...

cant help you surfer62 but wa71 no one ever had trouble sleeping after moving a couple of meters of sand with a barrow or spreading 6m of mulch on their garden. Top dress the lawn or mulch the garden over the weekend and see if you can break the cycle falling by into bed exhausted. Also never had trouble sleeping after huge days windsurfing, kiting or spearfishing.. are you active?

Turn tv's and computers off early.

Very simple but will guarantee you a few more hours of sleep a week.

Yes.
Don't answer the phone.
Midnight or early morning phone calls are always bad news.
Why would you want bad news in the middle of the night.
So,.. don't answer the phone.
Say the cat must have knocked the phone off the hook.
Say you were dead,..or thought you might have been,.. but don't answer the phone.

Seriously? If that's the case, I'd strongly suggest that you use the peer/counselling offered - and perhaps take some leave to re-assess your emotional and mental state.

Sounds familiar but throw in shift work as well. It's taken considerable effort to black out a room with both southeast and north west facing windows

I've been trying Swisse, over the counter herbal sleep tablet thingies but I'm reluctant to have any more. I think it makes my sleep even worse.

I think it is normal that we need less sleep as we get older. So unless you are not like the rest of us ...

I tried Melatonin to get over jet lag, I took it for only about a week after coming back from the US and I think I slept better than other times. I also find that less or no alcohol helps me sleep better + turn off the TV, computer, tablet early.

(I think all of this was already suggested here)

I don't think melatonin is available in australia without a doctors prescription.
And even then it is low dose and very expensive.
In america, you can get it over the counter and it's cheap, like lots of other stuff, Guns, ammunition, melatonin, etc.
Probably all at the same shop.
Melatonin really does work, and it works well, but homeopathic melatonin does not.
Well it sort of does, but only because of the other ingredients, not the melatonin.
It's the chalk plus the placebo effect.

You need about 3mg to 5mg minimum melatonin to make any difference.
Check the label on homeopathic melatonin tablets.
OOOOooooh look! 3mg melatonin ! Oh that should work.

Then read the fine print down the bottom.
It's 3mg homeopathic 6X homeopathic mix, which means 3mg of mixture containing one part in a million of real melatonin.
In other words, each tablet contains 3 millionths of a milligram of melatonin.
The rest of it is chalk and corn flour.

If that tablet makes any diffeence to your sleep, tell me what part of the pill did that.
It will NOT be the 3 millionths of a milligram of melatonin.
That's why they can sell it over the counter to all and sundry without a prescription.

Everyone would have to accept that at those concentrations, you will be getting more melatonin off the vapour from your wizz while you are standing there hosing down the porcelain.

To anyone buying the homeopathic melatonin, try taking just a cheap and simple super calcium complex tablet before going to bed or when you wake up in the night.
When you take it, keep in mind that it will help you sleep.
Don't wash it all down. Leave the taste in you rmouth.
Let the taste remind you that it makes you sleepy. (just like a homeopathic melatonin tablet.)
This has a double benefit.
Calcium tablets give you stronger bones and should be taken at night.
They also help you sleep.

AT $20 for 400, what have you got to lose?
Even if it doesn't help you sleep, you will still end up with stronger bones.
So if you fall out of bed while tossing and turning, you shouldn't break a leg.

yep, I bought it in the US in supermarket, something like 7$ for 120 tablets, 3 mg of melatonin,

not the homeocr@p - the real stuff
