I understand people dont' like fines - but it's pretty simple, if you don't want a ticket don't speed past a camera. That little gps screen you spend more time looking at than the f$kn road tells you where the fixed ones are if the 3 signs didn't give it away in the first place. If how ever your feeling generous and you want to give the gov't more money then speed past a camera by all means.

I think they should stay, I got flogged 3 times when we first got here I man'd up said yep I was speeding payed the fine and got on with it and in all honestly I do drive slower pretty much all the time now than I used to (maybe I'm getting old).

Actually I find mostly the latter. When I lived in Perth a few years back you could sit on the freeway at 110 and it was not too hard to maintain that for a large amount of the journey (if you wanted to!) , many people were speeding by about 10kph

Now I find the average speed is just under 100, I am lane changing all over the place just to do 100.

they call them a "safety device" thats crap ! 7 days later the perpetrator will get the ticket .

in the mean time the drongo has had a crash and caused death and destruction.

real law inforcement , and instant action catching the idiots , is the only way to save lives.

If any government was "really" interested in stopping people from driving at what they think is a safe speed... they could put $2 IR transmitters on speed signs and mandate (like seat belts, etc) that cars have an IR receiver and when you exceed the ridiculously slow speed you get a constant beep.

Example: Doggie get's on the freeway, the speed sign transmits that the speed limit is donkey trot speed, an IR receiver in the cars headlights picks it.
When doggie sneezes, and puts a little extra pressure on the gas pedal taking his speed to donkey gallop, the car starts to beep.

This is the same tech as your TV remote control.

In Saudi Arabia cars emit a constant beep when you exceed 100kmh.

Unfortunately there's still nothing from stopping from falling asleep from driving as such brain numbing speeds.

I driven on that freeway for 14 years everyday now my average speed in the timeframe knock of work is 120 kph. and i have trucks tailgating me. Im a cronic tailgater and i merge like none other.
Perth drivers are slow and dumb.

Here's a challenge for someone, invent a speed camera that takes your photo for driving well under the limit as well as over the limit, because the person going well under the limit probably causes more frustration than the speeders. Of course the law would need to be changed, as at the moment the only road you are obliged to drive within 20 kms of the posted limit (100kmh) is the freeway. I drive 120 km round trip to and from work daily, 80% is 110kmh and every day I encounter the 80-90kmh "safe driver" causing all sorts of havoc as the traffic banking up behind tries to pass.

Strangely enough people have a strong sense of self preservation. They don't drive faster than they know is safe. (*Teenagers not included)

Most of the speed limits on the roads are well below the speeds that people could drive perfectly safely on, but a line has to be drawn somewhere. The government just clicked that if they make the speed limits far too low, then they collect more speeding fines.

You don't see police with speed guns sitting on roads where the conditions dictate that your ideal driving speed coincides with the speed limit. They sit on 2 lane roads where bumbling along at 60 is utterly needless.

I can't stand when they bring out the road death toll numbers as reasoning for speed cameras. To me it suggests that the cameras are a failure, doing nothing to the people determined to drive dangerously. The number of p-platers wrapping themselves around trees is ridiculous but speeding fines is not the answer to that problem.

If they were serious about the road toll and not just revenue raising the Government would pay in full or subsidise a driver training course for every new license issued and a refresher, say every 10 years.

Perth is the small country town full of retiring people who say: "its my god given right to drive at whatever speed I want in whatever lane I want. Wait your turn". These people should just die now and get it over with. Traffic problems solved.

I ride a pushie to work or for recreation every day.
I've been shouted at, abused, stuff thrown out car windows and people shouting to make me jump. I don't get it
In my experience a large majority of drivers in perth are totally oblivious, impatient and dangerous.
