I think ,,,,,the fkn media blow there fkn egos so fkn high they crave it more and more,,,,,,AFL football its a tough sport no arguing that but when i watch prime time telly with the chavvie and see brawles all in with head butts and king hit knock outs it disgusts me ,and puts me off the game completly,,,,,The blame should fall entirely on the Media,,,,,,
No f'ing way.
Last night I said the doco was all good - now I am off it completely. WTF were they thinking showing him at Gnaraloo.
Now every bastard wil be up there [}:)]
Great player , just fkkt up ,how many of you have done things in the past that you regret, would it be fair if you were tainted and publicly humiliated because you admitted that it was wrong.
Wouldn't you like the oppertunity to rectify things , maybe prevent others from taking the same path?
Can you look inside your own lives and honestly say that there are things you regret and would not change?
How would you handle the publicity? would it sit well?
He made his f..k ups in life public viewing , sure he got payed for it , but if one or two families get some positives from this and kids lives get saved then it will all be worth it.
Good on ya Ben !
yeah thanks for the advice casa-did that,or asked his family to deal with it-3 states away -in rehab.Hindsight is a wonderful thing.Removed my post-too personal for midnight ramblings to be judged by uninformed people.Just thought it would show the issue from a family members view.just shows how everybody around the addict is affected, even by tossers like you.no wonder people dont talk about such things.I feel the family shame all anew think about this-we all have this stereotypical view of a scagg hound-its obvious, they are unkempt, desperate. So many different chemicals out there, drugs to mask drugs,pharms-hillbilly heroin. Then you have binge users as opposed to habitual users. My x was a clean cut guy, doctors prescribed drugs to him without picking it up,the first time was heroin-easy,you have tracks but not if you inject under your nails. The second time it was everything but heroin. The cops that dealt with the accident didnt pick it up.They breath tested him, spent a bit of time with him and let him go.It was only the money clue that nailed him and his rehab confessions later.Look at Mathew Newton-signed by channel 10 with drug clearance-2 weeks later hes in rehab after assaulting yet another girlfriend. To the person who has not been involved with drugs,I am just and old hippy who may have smoked a joint in my youth,it isnt obvious until it gets out of control. We had been seperated for 5 years and you really do need to have a private detective on an addicts case to find out what is really going down. Some drugs are out of your system from anywhere between 24 and 72 hours and this is determined by your metabolic rate.Hair testing is the only way and you need 1 cm for one months chemical trace-easy,shave your head, its fashionable to be bald.and you cannot force a person to hair test, they have to consent. After the first rehab stint,my x was clean for a long while. His mothers a nurse, what chance did I have.I resent the implication that I am a bad mother,my children are remarkably well adjusted, have seen none of this, they just love Dad and he loves them.I believe in giving a person a second chance-go to rehab, stay clean.I have a court enforced hair test agreement for future contact,3cm 4 times a year. That is how you trust an addict.I had no idea of his rehab history prior to our marriage. How well did you grill your spouse? My point was,the effects of addiction are not confined to the user,it is their family that goes through hell while the addict is oblivious to their pain.It wrecks everybodies life.I am lucky,I am a strong capable woman who will always pick up life again, regardless of what it takes to do it.Cousins father will be crushed by the process.Did you notice on the couch after he pulled the hamstring, toasted and I get the thinking-Im out,no need to test for a while.lets party.Me,I am putting the experience to good use, studying so that one day I will be able to help not addicts, but the women and children who innocently get involved with this issue, put their lives back together-they are the unseen victims of drug abuse.
He was a great player, mite be a nice guy but I have no sypathy for him at all, the thing that sh!ts me is the media beat up!! ![]()
I watched the first half and thought it was ok.....
Last night I fell asleep .... literaly...
There are some great angles of perception in this thread .
I just thought - I like some movie stars - not because of thier private life but because of thier movies .
AFL is the reason I know Ben cousins - and what a damn fine player he is!!!!!
Off field he was staring in a different movie , and its just a shame that the movie got blurred with reality,,, and it would probrobably have been better if we didnt see it .
I think that the intention behind the docco got lost somewhere along the production line , and if the "dont do drugs issue" was the prime focus we really didnt need to see the graphic side to that extent. Sometimes less says more!!!
Anyways , good luck in your last game this weekend Ben !
That Tv show was just a money grabber for him.
It should never of been broadcast.
Hopefully all the kids who worshiped him, will not try to be like him.
Those speedy type drugs are a masive problem and our government needs to sort it out bigtime, and fast!!
The whole entertainment scenario has duped the world. Movie stars and sportspeople are overpaid, overrated and not of this real world.
In my opinion it is delberate. It is a smokescreen to keep people from reality.
As far as Benjamin is concerned he is typical of the whole set up. Why should he, or anyone else in entertainment get the repeated opprotunities he has had.
I have a mate who, uncharacteristially, got hooked on ice for six months. It destroyed his marriage, his job and his finances. He woke up but it is going to take him years to recover. How many people know working folk in that position?
Those sort of stories don't get onto TV, unfortunately![]()
Thought the 2nd ep was pretty average and left with more questions than answers.
Although it was important and worth the excercise, I don't think the doco was very well handled overall and had potential to be a lot better if handled by better filmakers. It definately traded on shock value and very little substance (no pun intended) at times. That's not Cousin's fault BTW.
I was very disapointed to see Ch7 blatently cashing in on the doco over the following days by showing footage (including the actual drug taking) in ads/other programs. Talk about milking the shock value.
That detracts and cheapens any kind of message or good work the doco may have achieved. It pretty much shows the level of true integrity in media and their level of genuine care for Cousins as opposed to making cash. ![]()
The drug taking shots should NOT be shown outside the doco, at very least so you don't have a kiddy exposed to that, when you are expecting to watch a normal game of footy!

I reckon Cousins is laughing at everyone over it...I doubt he has any remorse whatsoever!
Druggos & wife bashing celebs...poor excuse for news these days, btw, how's the gulf spill going?[}:)]
Think it needs to be pointed out that despite causing enormous pain and heartache for his family and friends (even some of his supporters) Cousins has never assualted anyone, never glassed his girlfriend, never p!zzed orf leaving a young girl to die in his apartment, never crashed his car, never deficated in a hotel lobby, never pack raped a teenager, never leaked pics of a girl he's been having an affair with, never p!zzed on a shop window, never .. well you get the message.
Coz he was too bent to even scratch himself!
Fair call, but driving drunk, drugged is an innocent death waiting to happen...
True - Cousins had more good luck than good management for sure. Amazing he wasn't involved in a car bingle at very least.
I can understand the envy or resentment towards Cousins as far as the ride he has had in life etc, but I can't actually understand hatred of the bloke? It is not as though he has gone out of his way to hurt or ruin anyone else but himself.
Hope he stays on at Richmond in some capacity and doesn't return to Perf.
Fingers n toes crossed for the future.
EDIT:
Bit late but anyway..
@ Squidy, despite copping flack from some that have never had to face the decisions you have, thank you for sharing your story. Can't blame you for wanting to remove it and perhaps those using your deleted posts in their quotations need to respect your wishes too.
Hope your kids look more to you than their father for guidance in the future. Good luck.
