Reading the stats - 4% use hard drugs and EU average is 3%.
So they have a 33% higher usage of hard drugs.
You can make stats say what you like....
Mike I think we will have to agree to disagree
This is getting circular
Anyway, I only checked out the thread as it was called teenage daughters ![]()
I am firmly on the anti drug side.
I make no apologies or allowances.
There is no room for grey areas- its plain black and white.
Much like Mark- I only visited this thread as I have a 15 year old son that I hope to god learns from the mistakes other people have made.
My posting of a couple of incidents at the hotel I worked at has brought back a lot of memories of stuff I would rather forget- mates of mine that are dead, or would be better off dead after the injuries from drug related incidents and "accidents".
Out of my class of apprentices- one sanded a finger off without knowing it.
Another head butted a steel lightpole on morley drive- after first going through his EH's windscreen.
Another just plain old lost his mind in a haze of smoke.
At the old Orchard hotel, the first hotel I worked at- we were finding druggies living in the abandoned building behind us- they would steal anything- sell anything for the crap they pumped into thier arms. selling weed and pills to kids to support thier habit. there were young kids living in these wrecked buildings being pimped out by druggies.
Later working at the scarborough hotel there were so many kids popping pills in the nightclub and main bar that I dreaded working the nightshift on fri-sat-sun.
Dragging kids out of dunnies that had collapsed with dehydration, rescueing young lasses from predators- (all too often not in time)
If (and thats a real big if) you could guarantee some form of self control and a safe environment where the kids could pop thier pill and not be preyed upon, or harm themselves in any way- with the medics on hand- I could almost agree to it.
But it will not work. Teenagers are risk takers, they will not go to a safe sterile version of an "injecting room" staffed by medics and security personnel with big brother watching.
A spaced out kid is too vulnerable to be looked after by thier mates who are most likely drug or drink affected themselves.
Our son knows what I have seen and been through at work, and knows all about my sister and the damage done to her and my hatred and loathing for those who led her into drugs, he knows his older brother has dabbled with drugs and it hasnt been all the fun it was supposed to be.
All we can hope for is our sonhas the fortitude to decline any offers, and I am pretty sure he is on the right track, and pleased he has a good group of mates at his church to mix with.
e0422713- If you can get your daughters to read through this entire thread, it might help them understand why you looked for the pills, and why you are so worried about them messing about with drugs.
The filthy stuff scares the hell out of me- I have never popped a pill- smoked a joint- and you probably wont believe it, but at 48 years old- never been drunk.
but by god drugs and booze have taken one hell of a toll on me.
stephen.
My sister called me this morning to tell me one of my classmates from school just died of an OD. He had straightened out for a bit, gotten engaged, had a baby with one of our close family friends, but went off the rails again. His mother found him in her living room in the small hours of Monday morning.
Sheez this place is getting full of right wing rabble rousers.
Is it sponsored by Murdoch now or something ?
Oh hang on ... ![]()
I feel compelled to reply somewhat to this
The anti/anti stance doesnt work believe me i have experienced and lived it
The lets all get on it doesnt either, there are repercussions for some
All you have to do is talk not dictate(other than make kids read and be aware of what they are doing if they are going to do it)
They will do it anyway if they choose to, whether you agree or not, better that if they choose to(hopefully not), they can call you anytime when they are scared/in the **** and you can be there to help
