Thanks for the link. We saw 4 Dolphins at Maylands last week, no injuries though. Wont be dipping my toes too deep tomorrow morning!

we havent had a mudhopper season for quite a few years.
when the lake has had a really wet year the salt crust is really thin or not there and some of the more isolated bays have a critter called a mudhopper.
its a reptile that is nocturnal,burying itself in the mud all day , and able to hibernate when the lake gets really dry and salty.. the biggest ive seen was 400mm long . with some really sharp little teeth,and strong jaws,kinda like a bobtail..
last time we went chasing them ,my mate crazy trav missed with his spear and the bugger latched onto his toe, kn hilarious to watch
you hunt them at night witha torch and a spear like a fish spear, by looking for the evil little red eyes. the difficulty comes in that you have to slog about 500m out into the really sticky mud before you even start looking for them .
when you spot them you have to give chase and they can really get up some speed across the mud.the worse the mud the faster they go and the slower you go
so much fun to hunt, considering they dont really taste that good.

1 1/2 minutes of running used up most of a bottle of gas before the bottle froze up, and thats with the bottle "right side up"

in theory, with the bottle upside down, it should deliver gas- in liquid form- even faster, and without freezing up (in theory....)

having said that- I can just picture a counter jockey at Fallshaw opening up a carton of wheels being returned "under warranty" and his jaw hitting the counter with one heck of a thump!

It looks like it depends on a tuned exhaust to work. Just guessing but it looks as if when you fire it up you get blowback out the inlet but inertia of the gas in the exhaust pipe sucks air into the combustion chamber for another firing and on it goes cycling like that. The blowback gets used for thrust as does the exhaust.

The old Nazi buzz bombs had the inlet at the front but they had louvre shutters that closed when it fired so all the thrust went out the exhaust.

What a cool gadget.

Thrust comes from both pipes. One is longer than the other so when it fires a slug of gas squirts out the short pipe and a similar slug of gas flies along the long pipe. By the time the combustion chamber is evacuated the slug of gas in the long pipe is still flying along the pipe so it sucks air in behind it and by the time the slug of gas is exhausted the combustion chamber is charged for another bang. Elegant! so simple.

Had a search for pulse jet on youtube . These things get really hot - thank goodness Lefroy is a cool spot in summer.

Not sure about a jet straight behind the head.

There are some interesting videos of jets - noisy but fast.

Those things work with deisel? I'm surprised that they get sufficient compression.
