What does between 20 and 29 mean

I agree (Ian K). I'm a cruiser, not a speeder... But I turn into a speedo watcher in 40 zones with cameras... (Revenue Zones!)

I used to drive the same route through a school zone on the way to work everyday to be there at 7am.

One day the wife called after a night shift to say some tool had smashed her pushie up and could I pick her up from work. I end up taking the same route to work as usual, only 30 min or so later. I was in autopilot and get done for 60 in a 40 zone. Any other day on my way to work and I'd have been fine at 60. Just not that day.

I'm not sure what the point of that was.

Why the need to speed if you were only 2 minutes late?

It would have been 31 minutes late for me. After I fell asleep for 30 minutes straight after.

Lost of revenue! They do not want you to go slow.... just want your money! With today technology how easy and cheap would it be to stick to every speed sign a small electronic sender and have a receiver in the cars that would let you know of the speed limit in the area???? Again lost of revenue!
They could sell them for $ 20 over the value and use the profit to equip the signs!

The best place for the flashing lights would be on the roof of the car. Compulsory and coded. A green light comes on when you are going 40, yellow @50, green @ 60 .... red @100.

This suggestion usually goes down like a lead balloon, infringes your freedom in a motor car etc,etc, but as it is you can sneak through a school zone a few km over and mostly no-one knows for sure that you have broken the law and placed kids in socially unacceptable extra danger. Peer group pressure would come into play, it's a stronger deterrent than a fine, you wouldn't dare speed thru a school zone with the wrong coloured light flashing.

Many intersection accidents are no doubt caused when the person, later deemed to be in the wrong, misjudges the speed of a speeding car, which, with no record of the speed, is later deemed to be in the right. A coded light system would reduce this.

Apparently there is a country in SE Asia where a system of this type is compulsory for trucks.

Get a man walking in front of the car holding a red flag and ringing a bell! Fence the road passing in school areas and all the driveways wile we are at it, ban cars around schools.......... no can't do that one.... the poor precious little ones will have to walk home and mum massive 4x4 taxi will be of no use!
Could teach responsible behaviour to parents and school kids as well! Mmmmmmmmmmmm too hard.

No it's not quite that extreme, but why can't we do that one? Apart from not liking the idea of everyone else knowing how fast you are going?

Car vs pedestrian culture is pretty bad in Oz. In shared zones cars just bulldoze through. At uncontrolled intersections cars are supposed to give way to pedestrians on the road into which they are turning!

The turning vehicle rule was drummed into me when I got my license years ago but the motoring culture has changed, I don't think many drivers or pedestrians are aware of it?

The rule is still there but you have to look hard to find it

If there is one thing that brings this forum together it is driving!

Who are they, ( I am going to answer this myself), those self righteous, wet under wear type, who deliberately do 12 ks below the speed limit AND THEN DEFY ALL ****ING LOGIC and speed up to the limit as soon as an opportunity to overtake takes place so that only one and a half cars can get past because the ****ing clown at the head of the cue will not floor it.

Do they not see the 12 frustrated law abiding citizens backed up behind?

Which answers the question. Take a walk around a shopping mall and see how people behave and then realise that most will gain a licence

They do not see you because they are not paying very much attention.

Talk of which, I got caught in traffic today coming in to Newcastle alongside a lady on a Vespa, all dressed fof the role. While it occurred to me that you could fit four of her into every car space it could also result in a lot of taking of eyes off road.

I dont like camera speed traps either, "however" saying that I haven't been done for a looooong time. I take bloody notice of speed sign changes. Not saying I dont miss the odd one or two,but I can tell you with 99% accuracy, even when I am passenger, what the current speed is on any section being driven on at the time.
40k school zones
One of our children was cleaned up, for the simple reason the children barged out not looking Fortunately the lady driving through who hit our child, was doing just under 40 kph, which saved our child's life
Doing more than 40 kph and would have been a different outcome

Its not rocket science, stick to the limit The camera system will go broke if everyone did, or at least be non profitable
