I agree (Ian K). I'm a cruiser, not a speeder... But I turn into a speedo watcher in 40 zones with cameras... (Revenue Zones!
)
That's a fault of the cruise control in my car, it doesn't work below 40kph. I was once told by a racing car driver "cruise control is not just for the highway. Use it around town. " He said he used his all the time.
I used to drive the same route through a school zone on the way to work everyday to be there at 7am.
One day the wife called after a night shift to say some tool had smashed her pushie up and could I pick her up from work. I end up taking the same route to work as usual, only 30 min or so later. I was in autopilot and get done for 60 in a 40 zone. Any other day on my way to work and I'd have been fine at 60. Just not that day.
I'm not sure what the point of that was.
Roadworks are my pet hate. If no one is working and there is no danger to roadworkers why do they leave the signs up???? Many are set up incorrectly and many also fail to put up the end roadwork sign. This technically means you have to drive at that speed until you pass a permanent proper sign. I loved on the freeway the other day when they had a 40km on one side of the road and an 80km sign on the other????
"Enjoy the ride" I think this is one of the best road safty campains that I have seen. It has made me think how I drive my car.
I am a mad driver at the best of times but since this campain has come out I put my music on and just cruise to the music and really enjoy taking time to get to my destination.
I find that when Im going to work or comming home on the freeway I generally sit in the middle lane with the cruise control on and sit on 100-103kph. When driving at that speed Im constantly amazed at how many people fly past me at 110kph +
And then the people that drive below the limit 70-80-90kph thats just as dangerous as going 120kph imo.
Funny thing is the police dont want to police these types of driving behavior, they would rather set up speed cameras and let some other bozo send out letters with pics on them to tell you that you are busted for 7kph over the limit!! ![]()
If there is one thing that brings this forum together it is driving!
Who are they, ( I am going to answer this myself
), those self righteous, wet under wear type, who deliberately do 12 ks below the speed limit AND THEN DEFY ALL ****ING LOGIC and speed up to the limit as soon as an opportunity to overtake takes place so that only one and a half cars can get past because the ****ing clown at the head of the cue will not floor it.
Do they not see the 12 frustrated law abiding citizens backed up behind?
Which answers the question. Take a walk around a shopping mall and see how people behave and then realise that most will gain a licence![]()
They do not see you because they are not paying very much attention.
Talk of which, I got caught in traffic today coming in to Newcastle alongside a lady on a Vespa, all dressed fof the role. While it occurred to me that you could fit four of her into every car space it could also result in a lot of taking of eyes off road.
20-29 means you got done[}:)]
I dont like camera speed traps either, "however" saying that I haven't been done for a looooong time. I take bloody notice of speed sign changes. Not saying I dont miss the odd one or two,but I can tell you with 99% accuracy, even when I am passenger, what the current speed is on any section being driven on at the time.

One of our children was cleaned up, for the simple reason the children barged out not looking
Fortunately the lady driving through who hit our child, was doing just under 40 kph, which saved our child's life![]()

Doing more than 40 kph and would have been a different outcome![]()
Its not rocket science, stick to the limit
The camera system will go broke if everyone did, or at least be non profitable![]()
Red light cameras also double up as speed cameras!
i got fined $75 for doing 8 km/h over 60 speed limit on Albany highway, just under the Leach hwy overpass.
overall this traffic cameras everywhere thing is good, as certainly reduces dangerous speeding drivers.
