Where did the anti carbon tax protesters go?

I don't think the increase in cost of living will be negligible. Fact is nobody knows for sure. One thing I do know is that all businesses will pass on the extra cost for power, production, transport etc. Net result is that everything will cost more. Particularly those products that pass through multiple hands on the way to the consumer.
Not only will I pay more income tax for the when this Carbon Tax comes in, I will also pay more for all other goods and services without receiving any compensation.
Tell me how that's fair?

Ha, yep. this is true. But more tax than a family night out at the movies?
Honestly I spend those sort of amounts on a good night(s) out without even blinking, or remembering.

i.e. it's negligible. It's certainly not worth driving to Canberra to protest about (you'd spend more on fuel)

How much inflation will be blamed on the carbon tax? It feels like little things like coffee go up 10%+ each year.

Not according to the calculator on the Govt website. I will be worse off and have to cope with higher prices. So, how am I wrong again?

You're wrong. Yes, marginal rates are increasing but so is the tax-free threshold and that applies to everyone. So after 1st July next year, people earning $18,200 will pay zero - $1,800 less than this year. Someone earning $37,000 will end up paying about $1,000 less in tax than they do this year. The difference becomes negligible once you get to $80,000 per year (about $3) and the marginal rates are the same at that level. So they end up paying the same as they do this year.

This ignores the flood levy.

Probably cobbled together by some public servant in a hurry and changed daily based on old info assuming the pollies even remembered to tell him what they were negotiating.

The rates passed into law yesterday (am pretty sure this is right but could stand confirmation) will be:

So if you earn (say) $30,000 pa then you pay ZERO on the first $18,200 and 19% on the next $11,800 ... which comes to a grand total of $2,242 in income tax for the whole year.

If you earn (say) $38,000 then you'd pay 32.5% on $1,000 plus $3,572 ... a grand total of $3,897 in tax for the entire year.

You need to add 1.5% medicare levy on that-but you already pay that now so it's unchanged.

How's that compare to what you're paying now??

Alarmists are oblivious to logic, oblivious to how the world really works. First the spin doctors named it Global Warming, the evidence pointed out that in fact the Earth is cooling so they upped the ante with ambiguous management speak and named it Climate Change on the onus that the climate always changes therefore making it just as frustrating as talking to a Christian that things should be evidence based not faith based on spurious and inconclusive non evidence.

shame , as some know they will struggle once the downstream effects of this export uncompetitive tax hits em!

I think that's a good move by Barry. It'll help keep the power companies honest. Because we'll know how much the carbon tax costs. Anything over and above that is not due to carbon tax - so they won't be able to blame it.
