My theory is evolution, we carry a lot of programing from much earlier times, even prehuman.

Back in the days when survival was very tough, a female's genes had better chance of survival if her children had the protection of the alpha male.

To keep the top spot an alpha male has to be a bit belligerent, and easily angered.

So this selects for an attraction to less than desirable mates now.

.

Exactly. That's why all the hot chicks were with the bad boys / sporty wankers at highschool

Then 10yrs later they are all with the nerd types who by then are rich and they are the provider.

Those of us in the middle are just fkn p!ssed by now..... :(

I love this stuff.. could write a book on it

what women think or say they want in a man.. in reality is not what attracts them to a man

.. and NEVER take advice about a girl from another girl

Okay. We have established that I am biologically destined to make stupid decisions. Now where do I sign up for reprogramming??

I don't think you can reprogram, but you might be able to make it less effective in controlling you.

There's probably different ideas on that, but I think there's a modern psychological discipline called "mindfulness" that may help.

Different forms of meditation called also help.
It's a matter of becoming more aware of what you really are, and not identifying with what you're not.
As soon as you identify with something you give it power, the more detached you can become from these things the more you are in control.
