Personally I bought from Seabreeze however I can not see any reason for not purchasing a kite on E-bay or Gumtree.
This site seems dead against this....Why?
Maybe cos Laurie gets $14 for every ad with a pic on here? (For all his HARD WORK mind you)
But the main reason - a small community like this is safe.
I'd have no dramas sending $1000 to somebody who had been here a while, knowing that the board or whatever will be as described and actually SENT.
How many Gumtree ads would you say that about?
Nothing wrong with ebay or gumtree but I know that sb has like-minded water enthusiasts so it has always been a good experience buying and selling here. ![]()
See what I mean. I got red thumbs for Asking the question.
Strange as it may be I have seen the same kite for sale on both SB and Gumtree.
What's the comeback for that scenario??
eBay isn't that cheap to sell on anymore. However I like the auction structure. Whenever selling there I normally start the auction at 99 cents. If the item is remotely of worth then this low price takes someone's interest. Before you know it a few people are bidding and the price keeps rising.
I sold a board like this and I was very happy with the price I received. So I threw in a few extras like a mast and fins.
Then eBay hit me with the bill.......
Gumtree seems to attract cheapscates.
Ive bought and sold a fair few surfboards on SB, there is less hassle eg scammers and most people that I deal with are local and pick up their gear in person. Gumtree is a nightmare, ebay Ive only used once and was fine, but I only used it because the item I was selling was a collectable and it needed a wide audience. It worked very well for that but general stuff like boards SB every time mate ![]()
i will say one thing, if you are selling, not everyone knows about seabreeze until they are 'in the scene'. i.e beginning in their chosen sport/interest.
advertise on all if you really want to attract a potential buyer.
ebay has buyer protection.
Is there anyway to know a SB advert is legit?
What if it's by somebody who only just joined?
Just asking, don't flame me.
Imagine running into your local pub where the locals have been drinking and socialising for 10 years and where the owner of the pub is mates with lots of the customers and saying - You blokes why don't you drink in the pub down the road its so much better.
Do you think you'd be 'red thumbed' ?
I've posted a few ad's here and also ebay.
The best value has been on SB, more than happy to part with $14 even if the eventual sale was via ebay.
I'd prefer to have 50 genuine ad hits from people actually into sailing than have to go through the Cr*p from ebay enquiries.
I didn't know there was anywhere else but SB to buy 2nd hand goods and I'll probably keep it that way. As Mark said you actually know who you're buying from. Have never had any issues buying and selling gear on SB.
That said the only real beef I have with the buy and sell (and this is completely outside Laurie's control) is the propensity of some (experienced) sellers to list gear younger than what it is i.e. there's numerous boards and sails listed as the later model. To an unexperienced buyer who thinks that they're getting a bargain on say a 2011 model when in fact it's either a 2010 or even earlier is deliberately misleading. At the end of the day though with any 2nd hand gear my advice is "caveat emptor"
Like most people that sell on here I can't recommend it more.
I have only sold surf and racing SUP nothing under $1500 and have never had a listing last for any longer than 3 days....
