I agree. I guess part of the concern is that you don't know what you have until after you have bought it and you wonder about what happens if something goes wrong.
I bought a cheap 3-sim mobile phone from China. It seemed okay, but if you put it in vibrate mode it would draw too much current from the battery and shut the thing down. I am scared that if I buy something similar that these sort of problems would pop up!
At least with the name brand phones you have a reputation and some sort of warranty service.
Yes you might be able to but check the specs and you will see that this machine is more like a G4! To be fair they are not even really comparable. In terms of what was initially requested - a tablet - this is like a mini tablet with a free phone! The S2 is a phone. Anyway just my 2 cents worth. Lets us know what you go for.

I have a soft spot for cheapo Chinese knockoff phones. Had a few of them over the last five years and always liked them.
I might go for a Technology Happy Life. A bit of the screen on my Huwei Deuce is dead after dropping it once too many times. I would feel terrible if I broke a $600 phone but a $200 one is not so bad.

I'd go the 10.1 Galaxy Tab, seems like pretty good value as it was their flagship model... Personally I think iOS is the superior platform, but I can't really argue with that tablet for under $300.
As for the sanctimonious replies about wether an 8yr old should have a tablet... Our family got our first computer when I was 9, I used it almost exclusively, now I earn a living from computers. Technology is no longer optional, it's part of life... Starting to use technology at a young age will allow them to be more adept at absorbing it in the future, in my opinion. As for what limits a parent puts on the use of a tablet, well that's up to the parent.
