back home, guinea pigs are farmed and eaten by my family.
i am thinking of growing a few myself to eat on special occasions.
they are delicous when marinated and then roasted over an open fire pit.
but, im not sure if its legal to eat them here.
I can eat rabbits, but there not as tasty.
thanks
Go the surf and turf kebab Budgie+goldfish+guinea pig on a skewer with sweet and sour kitten for entree![]()
Our neighbours have free range guinea pigs that bred like mice and were always sneaking into our place .my family have a continenetal background where just about anything is edible .my wife keeps the odd one that wanders over and freezes them .over a short while they add up and don't seem to be missed they are lovely in a tomotoey stew they are quite sweet and not too gamey and the drumbsticks are quite nice (they are definely a bit meatier and fattier than rat kind of like duck vs chicken).on an aside we have never spun the easter bunny bringing chocolate eggs story and have a lovely italian rabbit stew with polenta and parmesan at Easter time .this year we are keeping it a bit more aussie and are having tasmanian wallaby and possum .(I tried to get bilby but they are not available to eat yet ,maybe getting bilbie farms for food might be a good way of saving them ,I remember when I lived in NZ there was talk of farming kiwis as a way of helping save the species ,All that is available is expensive chocolate ones
)
geez mate im so broke i applied to be a foster parent so i can harvest the little ones off their organs and sell them on the black market. eat what you want. i will have some food for you if you cant stare into their cute little eyes.![]()
Why not , we eat turtles, dugongs and whalesharks here dam right, go for it they are only pigs
[;)
Opps iI am the wrong coulour[}:)]
Yeah guinea pigs are no problem. Enjoy! ![]()
Penguins are a no go though. Especially at Phillip Island. Even if you climb out on the rocks and catch one yourself, they still won't let you eat it. ![]()
Why kill them when you can milk them?
You don't get much as their tits are very small, but once you get the hang of rolling them on their backs with one hand and putting your mouth around their little teets, you won't want to kill them.
in png you can eat anything you can catch. we have a few roos of various flavours err kinds at our place but the wife and kids would get upset if you ate one of them.
its very common to see wallaby at the market in port moresby.
easy to hook you up on a hunting trip too. loads of dear & wallaby around.
typically though the only wild life kept as a pet to eat is a cassowary... much easier to catch a chick than hunt down a fully grown adult.
Not into pigs but i know a few who have eaten cat, they say pussy is really sweet To taste with or without marinade
guinee pig........hmmmmmmmm..
probably not as oily as echidna,
or as rich as swan,
not as chewy as old dobbin I tried a while ago,
wouldnt be as gritty as the caterpillars my scouts thought were witcheties,
our troop had a tradition of chihouwa stew at each camp,
it was really a mix of duck, rabbit, bacon and oranges with vegies (they told the new scouts, visiting cubs and parents it was jack russel and chihouwa stew)
but ...hey... with a bit of curry its all the same anyway ![]()
