check the fuel filter, its easily removed, most have a primer pump on top to bring the fuel back into the filter before you try and re start.

also if u have a racor fuel filter check for sludge, they have a wingnut setup on the bottom to drain it. Crack the injectors, make sure they are all getting fuel. another problem i`ve come across is a bug that grows in the fuel tanks, u can buy an additive to put in your tank to get rid of it, that means getting a fuel sample tested.(i presume it`s a boat?)

thanks for the advice, fuel filter ok,fuel all good, injectors getting fuel as i replaced fuel pump a week ago and primed injectors,,was running ok with a little loss in lower end power then out of no where started sounding bad ,,towed it home,,,there seems to be a poping sound coming from it ,,has engine compression will turn over but sound weak/bad,rocker cover o0ff all rocker s are fine nothing busted, all belts fine .. it is a delica,,

usually tell when you fist start the motor and it misses, you could try running some inhibitor though the diesel, sometimes that frees it.else you might have to remove the cylinder,

Series 1 or 2? L400 or L300? Did you get the fuel pump reconditioned or was it a replacement?

You'll probably have better luck here:

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I think it may cost you a little bit more than that by the sounds of it
Sounds to me like you might be losing a bit of compression somewhere, is there any bubbling of the water in the radiator when you take the cap off?

P.S. I'll give you a carton for it

Injectors! Always the first thing to check. After the fuel filter. On Diesel engines you dont usually have a problem with the spark.

timing could be out some degrees i had one isuzu , fly wheel moved 16

degrees on crankshaft made motor run real bad, cost big money to rectify,

crank shaft needed major reworking....best of luck

if its not something bad mentioned already which i hope not!!!
then try what you recently changed!
the injectors and feul pump you recently changed right?
re do it in super clean conditions, see if it works on anything else you did, filter etc.
yes your doing everything twice but it beats trying to rebuild the basterd
go car go~!

what i fixed(with help)was that the rod that holds the rocker arms, at the back had snapped under the screw(couldn't see the break)replaced it, up and running, rocker timing ,fuel pump timing to get right still , not on the road just yet .

Injectors or glowplugs?

try swapping them from a good cylinder and see if that changes which one has bad compression.

Also could be head gasket, but you would change that anyway...

Note I'm not a mechanic.

The compressed gases were going somewhere! Blown head gasket??

My old car had a cylinder liner come loose. That caused a gradual loss of power as it became worse (took maybe a year!). Eventually the gases started escaping into the cooling jacket and pressurised the system enough to split a water hose. Twice.

I'm not a mechanic either but...

don't think it'd be injectors or glowplugs. A diesel engine will compress whatever is in the cylinder (ie plain old air) by about 18:1 (that's a LOT! ) and that's the reading they'd be looking for on the compression tester.

Dude, as we say in the diesel industry, any bits left over when its up and going or you have it all back together......
Must have been over engineered in the first place..

Both are openings into the combustion chamber, so if they've got a hole through them they would drop the compression.

... But then I just realised how the mechanic would check the compression No spark plugs on a diesel.
Duh don't I look silly.
