Anything involving fun is proposed to be banned.

The Town of Cambridge proposal would also ban fishing at the City Beach groyne, restrict it at Floreat to the evening and ban bikes, skateboards and rollerblades from the promenade.

Calling things that suck 'GAY' is so gay sucks. One of my colleagues is gay, so whenever something is gay sucks, I try to be considerate and not imply that being gay is a bad thing.

What a joke, they should be more concerned about looking after people in the water than this type of crap. They put the flags out for swimmers isnt that enough?
How are the lifesavers going to police skateboarders etc? I dont think they have the power to do that.

Bloody nanny state

City councils are the topic of discussion at the moment. Maybe a chat with a reporter from the paper might get some feathers ruffled.
How can a council justify banning sports along the beaches with out any form of consultation between them and the acting bodies of said sports.
It's about time you KB's membered up and got your voice across.

+1 but in the old days after a surf a few of the fellas would crack a tinny or two but it never got out of hand, these days its alot different with big ethnic groups drinking and fighting each other. Its a shame that crap like this happens

as usual, ad nauseum....

a thread about bans and it is everyone else's fault, or a p!sstake by every poster

there was no talk of bans when surfing started, or windsurfing, or SUP'ing. Hmmmmmm.....

responsible kiters warned others a few years back, and were ridiculed.

The restricting of spots like Dutchies to WWA and AKSA only is ignored.

Right of way threads draw ridicule.

now hardly a week goes by without a thread here talking about how bad some noob/s was/were at a certain beach and how they took out swimmers/trees/walkers blah blah

now the bans at Scabs have been noticed by other councils and they are all jumping in and banning all board sports and skating and everything.....

Yeah, it was all such A FKN SURPRISE that councils might just ban everything just to be safe.

Sorry mark.

I feel the need to point out that the reason that there are hardly any dic head windsurfers is the honest truth -
that there is no new generation of windsurfers to make mistakes and learn from them.

Most windsurfers are 40+ have 15 years expirence and have a world of life expirence to know better.

The increase in kiters naturally will have its increase in "issues" along the coast. I'm sure it was the same 15 years ago. But the world has changed now, the Internet, forums and media inform us of 1000 times the information you where informed of 15 years ago.

^^^^ sorry Jas I disagree

ex-windsurfer kiters are good
ex-surfer kiters also
the country dweller kiters are good

the problem is the GenY "fk all of youse I'm so cool" and city wanker have to have a wave at all costs attitude
There are a lot of 18-30 y/o windsurfers at WAVE spots. A lot.

Also evidenced by the threads in the kite forum 2 - 3 yrs ago where certain people warned of these bans and were ridiculed by others to the point of being really fkn sad.

Those people should hang their heads in shame.

Mark go have a nanna nap. You may feel better.
I believe peoples attitudes in and out the water play a part in "banning" board sports such as what has happened here but lets face the real truth. Councils, local govts and even schools and companies have had massive changes in there attitudes towards any perceived risk. Cottosloe banned building sand castles! Was this due to the attitude of the builders (3 year old kids!!) and there reckless castles in high risk spots??? No it was not Mark. It was to prevent someone rolling there ankle and any possible law case that may follow. I think most metro beaches will head this way in the future and we simply have kiting/water sport specific beaches. (Like we do at most places now) (Mullaloo/scabs/pinneroo etc. It is a shame as it will restrict the younger generations coming into surfing/kite surfing (Due to transport). While our attitudes and actions do matter, in the end I believe this will occur at most beaches.

first sandcastles and now surfboards, skateboards.. don't they have a flagged swimming only zone already..? wa has some quirky people running the show, don't they have younger relatives that enjoy aussie freedom or has no one got any respect for others any more (both ways)

Yes, this is a result of the council's reaction to risk. Dumb people suing the council means it needs to take steps to proactively protect itself but this is not helped by the irresponsible behaviour of some kiters who ensure that the council's perceived risk is far higher than it should be.

I've seen kiters who have been kiting for less than a year who seem to think they know better than anyone else and who get aggressive about it as well. The attitude of kiters need to change and they need to change quickly.

Can I say I hardly go on topics but this one makes me mad. I agree with Mark about some of the attitudes with some Kiters not giving a ****... Its not generational some times... I have to have a BIG DIG at councils and insurance companies. Now if we were like NZ and had a "your own responsibility policy or idiot clause" like they do. For Instance if you walk accross a beach and walk accross a sandcastle and roll your ankle then then its your responsibility to avoid the sandcastle. Judges over there dont get these stupid cases from people suing because they can throw it out based of these laws. Hey I have worked with Councils all over victoria to build skateparks. You would laugh at Councils trying to bring in restrictions like hand rail heights and angle of banks... You explain to them it is a "park" resrtictions get put aside when you place the owness back on the rider. If they dont want to wear a helmet and protective gear then its their fault not the people who built it. If they think it is to dangerous to skate then build up your skill level and progress to that spot. We should look at the laws that these idiots can sue under.

Does this mean that they will ban SLSC Surf skis, Surf boats, Paddle boards etc...
Sounds like this is discrimination to me.
A while back I had a friend pinned on the bank at trigg by a surf boat. Luckily he escaped serious injury but when we raised the point to the clubbies, all they said is you should be swimming between the flags.
Do as i day, not as i do.
