After further searches it seems it is true.. apparently he passed from Dengue fever... RIP AI

I guess the moral of the story is don't under-estimate Dengue Fever... One of our own Dereck (of DC boards) recently got Dengue also, luckily he understood what it could do to you and quickly went straight to hospital for observation. He was in intesive care for a week and was on a breathing machine. Luckily he has now made a full recovery.
I feel (only from what I have heard) that under the circumstances A.I.'s death could have been fully preventable, which makes this tragedy even more sad
. He also is having a child very soon to. R.I.P Andy, I hope your son grows up to take your place as one of the best surfers ever.
If you are in a zone with dengue or ross river and you are feeling some symptoms please take it seriously.

Just heard on the tv news, they now are saying it might have been a methadon(spelling) overdose as it was found next to he's bed.
Hope that isnt true
He had a Coke addiction before didn't he? Now the news is saying "death yet to be determined"... and that methadone was found beside his bed along with a number of other drugs... Heath Ledger? weird stuff.
Andy said in the arnette video surfing is his life,he lives and breathes surfing ,then went on the A.S.P. tour and lived the dream ,such a surfing hero and role model his backhand defied human ability.He destroyed big CHAEPOO ,CLOUDBREAK and PIPELINE,remember his big backhand standup barrel poster in all surf shops 10 years ago.What a truly great athlete.

Looks like he checked himself out of hospital in Dallas to go home to Hawaii. He was too sick to fly so he checked in to a hotel in Dallas where he died.
He died of Dengue fever. It's very unlikely that drugs had anything to do with it.
