Hey guys check my new vid out, its the second from my series of videos while im out here, its mainly filmed at safety bay and woodman's point!
some nice nice moves and stashes Luke.
good to see me in the vid riding out the back in Safety Bay on my GTS at 1.13. LOL
Nice riding, but no wonder our 2 spots are ruined for 4 months whilst we suffer your euro invasion. You naming spots in your description like this is bulls###, I've kited my local once in the past 10 weeks. I can't even get parking at my local now because you guy's park in our spot and not the Euro spot. You suck, the local schools suck and I'm voting for a ban at safety bay. It's absolute disgusting, the one time I went back in the past month I heard a eurro shout to his mate F### the locals and continued doing short tacks and flying his kite low no matter what tack.
You whiteside are the same as Ned and Simon....come get your photo's and vid at everyone's inconvenience publish how great you are then f### off for your season of competition.
Sorry I don't tell you what you want to hear, but I'm over it. While I'm at it, would one of you pricks landing on the grass hurry up and get hit by a car because seeing kites in the tree everyday aint gonna get it banned in a hurry. We need guts and brains splat across the road to really send the message you brain dead f### wits. Why do the French and Italians seem to think they are invincible![]()
Red Thumb away, couldn't give a fat rats clacker
You don't really need to have been kiting for 10 years to know you're acting like a dick. And what exactly makes me "not a local"? I live here year round, have a home here, work here, pay a ton of tax here, and kite here. This is my home. I'm pretty sure that make me local. I put up with the same crowds and frustrations you do.
Oh, and yeah, nice vid Luke. Keep putting on a show.
Luke, Great vid, your riding is looking amazing.
Guys in WA , I understand that your pissed off with crowded spots, loads of Euros kiting in the season , etc. , but choose a different thread to voice your opinions.
I know luke from back at his local spot in the uk and he,s a good bloke who would not want to upset or irritate any local people in WA, enjoy the sport guys and stay safe.
Luke epic Vid bud, looks like you boys are having a great time out there.
All the locals, get over it guys it's the same all over the world, we have to share our beaches back home too and for us the quietist time is winter too.
Name and shame those who mention the spots!!!
Guys Woodies, safety bay, the pond and others are all well known spots and certainly not secrets.
How about picking up a book once in a while, you'll find most areas have been published for years now.
YOU DONT OWN THE BEACHES,
If you are worried about certain activities threatening an impending ban then speak to those concerned and rectify not just get the fu$k off my home spot.
Localism at it's best.
You, me, we are all to blame for the rapid growth of kitesurfing by putting on a show every time you go out.
We are supposed to be the Whinging Pomes, but you lot are bitching and whinging enough for the lot of us.
I am 100% with Sammy on this one.
No manners, no respect.................we have all just met too many Euros who are simply a bunch of spoiled, cheap, disrespectful puncks.
We are all over it, but I can certainly understand how these puncks want to spend time at a beach rather than making something useful of themeselves back home.....Rovingeuro trash (RET), thats what they are called and come from EFL where life really bites because there is no space or freedom.
Soon they will all be leaving on a plane, but they'll be back in greater force next year, what to do?
That's right, I am a paying member of the Try and Love a Euro club.
A simple google search on kitesurfing in WA will return the waksa site and detailed descriptions of "your spot" - hardly seems like a secret has been revealed.
Blaming Whiteside for mentioning Safety Bay, and Woodmans Point is pointless, childish and futile. Western Australia was well publicized as a top spot for kiteboarding to Euros years ago.
First off Kiteworldmag.com in the travel section; Perth is well sold as being one of few places between Nov-Feb. Safety Bay and Woodmans point get more than a mention here!!! Also Kiteworld release a free travel brochure every year with the mag, everything a Euro kiter needs to know about flat water kiting near Perth is explained there. The article also says locals are upset easily and retaliate by having a good moan on seabreeze ![]()
North kiteboarding is well known to test most of their kites and wave boards in the South-West. Sky Solbach (North's Chief Kite Tester) has based himself in WA, and has been interviewed on several occasions saying how great the kiting is here. Also North have released free DVD's/Webisodes in Europe with WA sessions featuring as a top spot for both waves and freestyle. (North are probably the most popular brand in Europe by the way).
I have also read countless articles regarding WA in many kiteboarding publications. Also, Dec-Feb (deep dark winter in europe) there are only two places in the world with conditions good enough to attract top level riders from Europe. Western Australia and South Africa. South Africa is pretty hardcore, with 35 knots being pretty normal, attracting riders such as Hadlow, Lenten and Langeree, year after year. However WA is much steadier, less gnarly and great for training.
Look at the fact that there are currently over 10 international riders from Europe here at the moment. They all write travel articles for various publications, including Spanish, French and Italian magazines. Some of these riders first wrote about WA over 4 years ago, so they must be coming back for a reason (the conditions here Rock!!)
The Horse bolted years ago, closing the stable door now won't change a thing!!! Blaming Whiteside for mentioning these spots on an Australian forum is the most stupid thing I've seen so far this year!!!!
The reality is kitesurfing is a ever increasingly popular sport and we live in a windy corner of the world.
Incessant bagging Euros or the odd kiter who might mentions that he had a good kite at a local beach isn't going to change that dynamic or the popularity of those spots. Angry rants over poor kiting ethics and lack of hygiene standard is unlikely to find the target audience in this forum.
Getting angry is understandable but not particularly useful. If we could channel this negative energy into workable solutions to rid our spots of undesirable activities, we all win.
Lets work on what we would like to see in the beach management plan. Might be easier than trying "self" management, with those who just won't listen.
lots of red flags and angry little babies aw, did mummy not buy your favorite dummy today
ha ha you guys are great, nice little vid euro dude
If anyone else has heard the whistles blowing from volcome house then u know how effective self regulation from the locals can be
You euros bored or something no good wind hear in 2 week
And your talking yourself up. stop doing short tacks or I'll cut your lines
OK, I read some of the replies and have ascertained that some of you have inadvertently missed the point being made. I think people are focusing on the wrong things here, this is not a Personal thing it's a generalisation of those that take photo's and video.
I'll try to put it into Lehman terms for those that appear to be struggling.
Those people that take photo's, videos etc for their sponsors should try and do it with out impact on others and refrain from finding the need to put specific locations details down in your title/description.
My example from a year ago how a vid should be posted www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Kitesurfing/General/FUN-wave-vid/?SearchTerms=sammyj
This is common practice in the surfing world, but unfortunately kiters for whatever reason seem to think it's necessary to publish every little detail. I've made several movies and never name a location and when I post it, I ask readers if they know where it is to please not mention it. I believe that those that put in the hard yards and research and explore should be rewarded.
To say I'm childish and futile is absurd, I'm the only local proactive enough to start a Safety Bay group website to help promote safety and inform visitors of the guidelines set in place by local authorities. I've been through the whole approaching people at the beach, I've copped abuse from french and Italians you name it and had to turn away before things got out of hand.
holy **** this escalated and i didnt even get a say yet!
1. stop typing so many words make sentences shorter so its easier to read because **** me i dont want to read so many damn words.
2. the euro trash at the pond has been especially bad this year they are the rudest bunch of C * NTS, short tacking, turning around without even looking at what they are doing, flying past down wind with kites up high so you have to slow down and put urs up super high so you dont take them out. i've stopped kiting the pond this year soley because every time i've been there i've felt like coming off the water and planting my foot square in a euro's teeth.
3. Luke isn't that bad there, he's probably the only euro that's respectful and a general good bloke at the spot. sure i dont agree with him posting the names of the spots either and it pisses me off that that mark ding **** of a photographer wrote a whole damn article in that cock lover's online magazine about safeties woodies etc making it sound like the best place ever.
4. i like rbl we should be friends i got a nice hook knife ![]()
5. at least the euros at woodies have been pretty tops this year, i haven't had any problem with them getting in the way etc, except when those strap loving douchers crash and lose their boards then take all day to body drag back, get some boots you twangers and stop losing your boards. oh and those poleys that do the crazy speed runs without looking are a bunch off tossers.
I feel for you WA guys, a week out there was enough to drive me mad. I guess you just need a bad season, or Ivan Malat or something to return.
Where's the brothers? get them down there cutting lines and evicting trouble makers and I'm sure things should be sweet again soon
. Or you could just feed brad a beer, amp him up and tell him that he needs to move the euros to the choppy side haha.
p.s. Sounds like you just need to start running into people, do that a few times Sammy and they get the drift
.
I've been to Safety Bay two years ago, and the biggest fool that I witnessed was actually an instructor. Always liked to impress his students by jumping on the beach in gusty winds, 70% of the time he kited himself while students admired his amazing backrolls.
Once when he beach-jumped, a gust got the better of him so he slammed into the bushes, completely ripping the kite.
Maybe those Euros were trained by that guy..
Anyway, nice video!
Ho Ho Ho loook at this little classic bit of a Seabreeze gem, no matter where you go you are garented to find a bit of agro here!
So what is the real deal here? is it naming the spots? is it the euro trash camping in the carpark? is it short tackers? or is it that in the summer alot of guys arrive who are better riders than you are and it makes you unhappy?
well the real deal is you guys are lucky to have sch amazing spots and you should be making the most of it! any guy who has half a brain can see that between 12-4 the pond will be packed and if you dont like it then dont go in at the "peak time". it doesnt get dark till 7-8 so the wind will still be there birthday boy.
We also hate euro junk, you get them everywhere so get used to it.
and i wouldnt call safety bay a secret spot, i think people know about it so you can stop worrying about that.
anyway im pretty busy looking for new cooler spots, ive found one in the bottom of africa and ive heard its pretty windy, also in egypt as i think its kicking off and a little known spot in brazil which i think gets a bit of wind aswell! but dont tell anyone!
Anyway...euro party at the pond! boom
Firstly, I sympathise with frustrated locals.
However, I'm going to respond to the initial post and say that I don't think the video is very good. The filming and editing are bland, song choice is meh, but most of all, the riding is ordinary.
Let me be clear, the vast majority of kiters, myself included, will never even attempt, let alone land most of the moves in the clip, but my understanding is that Mr Whiteside is a sponsored rider and aspiring pro, and therefore a different set of standards apply.
The riding in the clip is jerky. There is a lack of power, fluidity and grace. I would much rather watch slightly less technical moves pulled off with more power and style.
In an effort to be constructive I offer Luke this feedback: I'd like to see more extension (arms, torso and legs) on the raley component of all moves. If you don't extend fully it looks like you're in too much hurry to do the rotations. If you extend fully then pull into the rotations it's more graceful and dramatic. I'd also like to see larger range of movement in your legs on landing. Many of your landings look rigid (they lose you speed and endanger your knees) because you're not bending your legs very much and not timing the bend so as to soften the landing and maintain speed. This can be done with style and when it is it indicates a planned landing and control throughout the rotations.
On this front I really enjoyed Alex Pastor's recent WA vid and as ever, Hadlow sets the benchmark for power, smoothness and precision.
This is just an opinion. If it can trigger some learning then great, if not, please disregard it.
(Disclaimer: I'm a hack kiter, but I'm a professional at analysing high-performance movement)
