Shame, I've seen Euros teaching their mates and or girlfreinds in the Pond, at Beach3 at Woodies and at Point Walter with no concern for people around them or on the beach. I'll give you another heads up, Point Walter will be the next place to ban ALL Kiteboarding, unfortunately there are some people who dont give a stuff and just land and launch kites with no concern to members of the public or other kiters, Time to teach some manners!

All that happened is that the council banned something that was already against the law - i.e. operating a business on public land without a permit.
Also remember WAKSA are unpaid volunteers.

it s important what s happening here,future of tecinstruction means future of the sport.every school should work together to build strong roots for the sport in WA.
Every week the sea rescue guys,water safety and ppolice have to rescu,pick gear that is a immediate danger for ships.
Something should be done bout this too before more bans are put in place...

Of all the schools that "were" teaching at the point PKS was the only ones
to have owner operators instructors down there full time, they are the most structured. The others had like overseas backpackers with some sort of teaching licence from Honduras, Teach where ever they want, dont give respect to the locals, in fact dont even bother to smile and say hello!!

Firstly,I'd like to say thatI have alot of respect for crew such as yourself Phil but you and I and everyone that kites or have kited at that beach recently knows that it got to a point that there were way too many operaters. Saturation Point.
Im just a local lad that cares about my local spot and have witnessed alot of happenings over the few years ive been kiting there. When the wind is up I kite most days in summer at beach1 its close to home. Look, I do hope it works out for PKS and KSS to make it back to the Point and in fact wish all the schools well, kitesurfing everywhere needs quality schools. you are right I have never needed to contact you in regards to your school in fact if never contacted any schools. After watching the schools operate "side by side" for a number of years the good ones do stand out.
The bottom line is that there was too many schools in 1 area. Thats it.
I just hope that the permits be given to the best operators that understand the local area such as PKS & KSS.
If the Dogs are aloud back on the beach then there will be trouble!

She Joined 16 feb 2013, oh ok and after further investigation Gwen runs a school called Perth Kitesurfing school, I thought that was Darren Marshals school, so I check and find out its another school with almost the same name that has been running lessons at Woodmens point for 1.5 years, registered since 01 Nov 2011
Perth Kitesurfing School - This is the same school that does not use helmets or even teach the self-rescue to their students! here they are writing a 10 page essay, OMG guys do I really have to read all that?
We thought these guys were just the flavors of the season teaching dodgy lessons as per usual each year.
Yet this Gwen seems to know so much about me and yet I have know idea who she is.

Doesn't seem strange to me, maybe the council do not consider Perth Kitesurfing school to be a real school as they know how little time you have been teaching there. Busiest school? of course you're the school taking up too much space with too many students in each lesson, someone call crowd control!

Chapter 3 paragraph 8. We understand that locals don't want their beach swamped with beginners. We are quite happy to move downwind to the main beach at beach 1 which is what we have been doing up until now
If you really knew what you were talking about, with your long boring essay, you would know that this is a dog beach and has been for the last 9 years that I know of and it hasn't changed. You are the closest school to where all the recreational kite surfers rig up and go out, you do not go down the beach like you preach.
Again this risk is minimised if people are taught how to “self-rescue” with a proper lesson from a proper school.
OMG this is the biggest joke ever, PERTH KITESURFING SCHOOL? you do not even do self-rescues in your lessons or even where helmets. If an IKO examiner came along to woodmen's point in the last 1.5 years, you would have been the first to have your certification taken from you an closed down.
potential risks are things that Caroline Bradley would be completely incapable of evaluating as she does her evaluation from 300km away and comes at Woodman Point once per season.

I sit down there in the dunes filming your dodgy lessons without helmets or self rescues, I have quite the documentary from the last 1.5 seasons.
I run a very successful business, where I choose to run my business from and spend half of my week has nothing to do with the situation what so ever!! and quite simply try minding your own business.
This is why we have Managers in place, that report to us daily, like any other successful business.
Just wait till you see the footage of your school and then you will be very impressed at just how much time I spend at woodies... factually.

West Australian approached me to ask me about the situation at Woodmens Point I am wishing now they had asked another school and not ours. I just told it as I saw it and I am comparing it to the last 9 years.
Come on! its crazy down there, ask any of the local kite surfers!! some instructor from one school threatened to cut our lines one day last season. So many of these guys teach in the launching and landing area, can you imagine how frustrating this is for all the local kitesurfers just wanting to go for a kite after work.

Sorry to veer off but interested in point above. Always conflicting views on the use of helmets in kitesurf lessons. IMO I would say they are unnecessary but am still open to learn anything new about their use. I haven't ever heard of a student hitting their head hard during a lesson, has anyone? For sure know a friend (experienced rider) where helmet may have saved their ass though as they ploughed their head into rock groin (broke neck & helmet split), but any newbee would have been trained not to go anywhere near where my friend was/doing what he was trying!
Don't have anything against helmets, don't think they are bad - personal choice, well except for time my friend slammed hard on water and back of helmet hit neck and temporarily paralyzed him!
^^^^^ 2 reasons why helmets SHOULD be used in lessons my friend,
No.1, insurance companies demand helments to be worn, no helmet, NO insurance.
No.2, All quality instructors use radio helmets, as a instructor you can talk to your student all the time there in the water

But TBH - look at the threads for the last few years. It was well over 4 yrs ago that KITERS were calling on the rogue ones to pull their heads in... and they were ridiculed.
In the very first talk of bans at a beach, those same KITERS saw how it was going and implored you all to consider how things were going but they were ignored.
Windsurfers like me, with 18yrs experience (at that point), remarked how the last 2 -3 yrs was so different. We were abused, made scapegoats and labelled kite-haters (still)
Even giving examples of non WAKSA members in member only areas etc - apparently it was all 'made up' and the eastern states crew with no fkn idea abused us. All the usual sh!t about "haha lol I boost over all youse old polies ha ha"
Repeatedly there are threads from your own peeps about how bad / dangerous a few people were last Saturday at Melville / Woodies / SB / whatever.
And what - this is a surprise? You think the councils didn't read all the sh!t that the young trolling c0cks talk on here? Or the fact that responsible kiters warned you all but they got reamed and eventually said 'fk it' and they left????
And now you have unlicensed mob doing lessons. Unchecked. Fk. Geez I might start doing skydiving for kids in my unlicensed plane with unchecked parachutes and all the industry will ignore me - like all the kiting mob did....
Woodies was used for NOTHING but a winter spot for windsurfers. No swimmers really, no surfers, it was fk-all. And kiters managed to get kiteschools banned from there. That certainly IS an achievement, getting a minority sport's instructors banned from a desolate beach. Think about that.
After you red-thumb me, read ALL the above and then ask yourself if it actually happened.
If you want to save your sport - teach a noob the right way, punch an intermediate "I'm sooo fkn cool" person in the face (hard), front up to to unlicensed schools and given them heaps, and talk to councils. Don't whine here.
Of course you won't cos a windsurfer talking is akin - (look that up in a Google dictionary thing on your iPhone) - to the devil. Even if it is true it must be subversive deviltalk.
