Lostinlondon the banks are declaring 50% profits this year mate,so where your 3% comes from I have no idea it's simple they are raping the country as they do everywhere in the world.
The Australian banks have used the cover of the global financial crisis to charge borrowers more than the increase in their own costs, resulting in big profits for the lenders and much higher interest bills for us the customers.

50% increases in profits, not 50% profits.

The 3% is on the value of all the assets they own (which includes the outstanding mortgages)

So, if you have 100 Billion in assets, and you post a 3 billion profit, large profit, but not exactly great returns... The bank gives you a better rate of return on a term deposit.

Don't forget, anyone who works in Australia and has a super fund effectively owns park of the banks anyway - Don't you want your investments to do well?

Anyway, this is a kitesurf forum... and the thread is about Customs charges - which kick in at $1000 - generating $155 for the Government, which wouldn't cover the cost of enforcement anyway.

Actually tax is different to law. In law you are innocent until proven guilty, in tax you are guilty until you can prove otherwise. You must PROVE that you your purchases are legit tax purchases. Its a tough system but it works, too bad they dont adapt the same policy on those thieving bastards that break into our cars and houses or murder and rape. Our system tends to punish the good and let the bad get away with a slap on the wrist followed by a nice healthy centerlink payment.

Our taxes are quite low when compared to the rest of the world, and I am happy to pay my bit as long as it doesnt get spent on the gourmet meals these aholes are getting in gaol while they serve their minimums sentence.

The solution would be to make anyone who goes to gaol pay for their stay be it with civil service or chain gangs, and then we can drop GST to 5% and still be in the black.

Ok so you think the banks aren't making bazillions of our backs huh??

Here's Commonwealths latest figures for 2010 a excerpt taken from the shareholders financial.

So sad isn't it, they are so hard done by aren't they only 5.7 billion, half a trillion!!and if you watched the news tonight you were lucky enough to get a glimpse at the households of the main banks CEO's pads, they are so hard done by they only get to live in $15 million dollar homes.

That's the problem right there (if correct.) The Gov' gets GST from the retailer/importer on the imported goods and gets GST AGAIN when the goods are sold to a customer. What a rort.

I'm in China ATM.... a massive dinner for 8 ppl costs about 50 Ausie dollars...including beers.
Houses(nice new ones) cost about $50,000Aussie equivallent in most mid sized cities.
A car will cost the same as Australian ones....
Day to day living costs about 60-100 Rmb ...about 17.00AUD
If you cant afford to buy a house, you can rent one for 500 to 700 RMB(120AUD) per month...yes per month!

anything you want in consumables you can get here at 10% of what you can in any other wstern country.

And there is no personal income tax.

The CEO's of the big 4 banks may earn $10mill a year, but I bet they don't get time to go kiting after work. You decide who is "rich".

Kitesurfing started when the internet was already around. Any retailer going into the market would have been well aware of the online competition (or blind and dumb). They can cry foul but US based online retailers will always be able to out do them.

GST credits for business

How do GST credits work?

Generally, you must pay GST to us for taxable sales of goods and services you make as part of your business. This is calculated as one-eleventh of the sale price.

If you are entitled to claim a GST credit, you can claim back the GST you pay in the price of purchases you use in your business. You can also offset these GST credits against the amount of GST you are liable to pay to us.

If your GST credits are greater than the amount of GST you are liable to pay us, you will be entitled to a refund.

Now they have asked me to produce the receipts for anything that I have bought overseas in the last 2 years.

The guy told me that it's nothing personal but they have automatic alerts that come up when a whole lot of exports start coming from the same company, then they investigate and I am responsible for what these guys wrote on the import form. They also told me that it's a $1,000 threshold but they add duty, gst and freight onto this to get to the $1,000, so really it's about $700 and you can't argue with these guys.


Sounds like you're now trying to sting the Breeze with this crap-sorry-I appreciate local retailers and all-but if I can save 50% on a kite from OS-I'll take the risk AND the savings!
