I live in S. Texas coast and am blessed with wind most of the year..... springtime its windy every day for 3 months... summer its usually only a push just before sunset... Winter its cold front kiting....
Mostly 12 and 10m wind with some big days here and there....( I love hurricane season, big wind and waves)
I average 100 - 150 days per year......
Just curious how often you all get to kite.....
Its never enough.........
sounds similar to me.
Tho i have never actually taken a talley its twice a week on average. so i'm calling 100 sessions +. some weeks are most days other weeks nothing. but mainly its twice a week.
my most common size is my 10.
Last year I wanted to learn how to use on-line excel spread sheets using Google docs so I set up a kiting one for the exercise. Exercise is over but I keep updating the spreadsheet.
3 to 4 times per week on average. So 150 to 200 and about 100 to 150 surf/sups.
Ps I'm a teacher who lives 300m from the beach in WA.
Not really as all I have to enter is the hours and then pick the location, board and kite from drop down lists. Then excel updates those summary tables. So only takes a few seconds to update.
Lots, but can pick and choose, rather have one smoking day than a few take it or leave its. The after work session is more for walking the dogs than any personal satisfaction ![]()
Once upon a time I came home with no job and some savings, bought 2 new kites (Naish aeros), had nothing better to spend my money on. I would sit at the beach for the whole day shooting the breeze with other addicts and waiting to catch that 1/2hr blow.
Then my time on water drastically reduced when I started working full time. Always at work, only weekends free.
Then I got a girlfriend. She was understanding about kiting, but still there were more social obligations, less time for kiting.
Then I bought a house. Always seemed to be work to do to make it right, but slowly it improved and grew in value. Still kited pretty often, 3 times per week.
Then I got married. Always seems to be more work to do to keep her happy.
Then I sold my lovely fixed up house (on a busy street) for a tidy profit and bought a run down one in better location (see kites from deck if it's on). Way more work to do, renovated entire upstairs and now considering starting downstairs.
Then I had a child. 27 times more work to do now. Sometimes I pause in my work and watch the kites from my deck. [}:)]
The end
(PS I got out yesterday, but that was first time in at least a month, but that's mainly due to endless rain we've been having...)
Once or twice per weekend if the wind is on, but in Winter many low wind days (would never have believed winter in Perth was low wind till I started watching it 3 times per day!), so I would guess avg 50 sessions a year. I kite 2-4 hrs usually or till I cam barely walk out of the water, often the last one on the beach. Never realise how stuffed I am till I try to walk. No wonder smart mammals/whales went back in the water and stayed there.
Everyday the wind blows in WA over 15 knots a gang of us go kiting. Looks like seabreezes all this week :) This season rocks may it never end.
I am up to 225 sessions since my first lesson in October 2005.
This means I average around 30 sessions per year - which is odd because I would have said I score at least 50!
We have a lot of downtime over winter and spring though, and periods of great intensity like this summer, up until 2 weeks ago.
I log every session here www.peterskiteboarding.com/
So far for me I've been averaging about twice a week since I started in January, with a little break somewhere in there while waiting for my own gear. So about 20 sessions for me in total, including lessons. Want to ramp it up to 3-4 times a week, wind allowing.
Personally I'm impressed with slacks lack of slackness. Such a great idea but I know I would have no hope of remembering to do this after every kite.
Kept a log on my phone last year
2011/12
56 sessions
19 downwinders( City beach to Trigg. 6 km)
Total of 80 hours
This was all warm weather stuff, didnt bother with the chilly winter squalls
This year pretty much every session was a downwinder
Im at Boarding school..... all my life iv loved the ocean more than anything ! so what do the parental do ? send me to a farmer filled corn fed hillbilly School with a total of 1 kiter (me) and maybe 3 or 4 surfers. i live 5 mins from my kite spot and might get 3 weeks of kiting done in a year if im lucky ?
live in geraldton, do i need to say more
.. cant think of a week i havnt kited, id say iv had around 80 sessions since the start of last november..thats being modest as i have to take into account the past 5 weeks iv been working in Perth and the horrible lack of wind.
oh i miss geraldton ![]()
Hello to you all,
i am new in this great forum.
I live in Germany 500 kilometer to the next coast and just 2 little lakes in my area.
So for kitesurfing it hard but possible. In a good year .... 40- 50 days per year.
But as borntokite says: its never enough.
My wife and me thinking about going to australia (Perth) In this case my average goes up.
However I wish you good time on the water.![]()
