Well done Michel,
I hope the council recognises you, especially because they are so anti-kiting over there (so I understand).
Rich
Michel is a charger and would show up most of the girls about to take on one eye.Well done for rescuing those lucky people.
hahaha, the one day you don't come kiting at Lennox with me hey Michel... Now you're a hero! hahaha. Awesome work, I can't even picture how you did it to be honest but I can only imagine it was really hard work for you!
p.s.
I've also had to pull a few swimmers in on occasion and even once or twice a surfer and a windsurfer, not to mention other kiters... As someone else said, it's sad this always goes un-noticed and the press just harps on about our "razorblade lines" or some other far fetched fiction story that they get 2nd hand from the areas local kook... :(.
This Event should not be under stated. This kiter not only saved the lives of three souls, but put her own at very high risk to achieve it. Any swimmer in that much trouble is way beyond panic mode and would be in a serious uncommunicative "trance".
Controlling the kite in this situation would seem like the easy part. (which it would not be). I for one am glad to know that, people with this much courage may be kiting somewhere near me, as well as giving me courage to not think twice about a rescue if I was burdened with a simular situation.
I hope this News is spread a lot further than this Forum as its clear that Michel deserves recognition for this.
Well Done.
yea nice work ,awesome effot, coming from a lifesaving back ground myself fantactic to here ..... again awesome **** ...
You're a retard... All I am pointing out is the council here is ****ed. Most kiters that have been around here for a while have saved people or rescued someone or something in some way... But all the council hear about is falsities made up by the local longboarding tossers.
- Not to mention I kite with Michel most days, she doesn't need me telling her how awesome she is on an internet forum. She knows I think she's awesome already!
Echo the above sentiments... Sensational![]()

Thank you for painting our passion in a good light too!!
Having experienced rescuing people - and though it through have you changed anything in your kit in case it happens again to make it easier??
Cheers

This is a great story. And you are a legend Michel. Pity about your mate Rowdy, why the red thumbs?
Col
They are just jealous Col that I get to kite with the Hero!!! ![]()
p.s. Or maybe it's the fact that I actually know something... either or.
I'm just glad they didn't drag you under! Could have been a gnarly situation.
Lets hope the media push this episode enough in the right way. I think you would be a good face for kiting in the area. On face value alone you seem the least threatening person in the world and you actually have your head screwed on! Fingers crossed.
Great effort Michel!
Fantastic to have a positive news story regarding kiting in the bay. Has anyone written to the Byron Shire News or the Echo (deadline today 12 o'clock). Can someone confirm either way?
We have had some bad press and dramatically distorted views from some people who seem to have a hatred towards kitesurfing - now is the time to show the positives of what Michel has done.
Is anyone doing that now with the local media?
Michel, that is an outstanding effort. Well done!
I think a bravery award is definitely indicated for your actions as it seems you have saved lives under very difficult circumstances.
Here are NSW bravery awards: www.braveryaward.org/
And national bravery awards are here: www.itsanhonour.gov.au/publications/honours/factsheets/bravery_medal.pdf
Can someone local nominate Michel?
Do you think it would be better to get a well known source to nominate? Like the local paper or something??? Because if not I would be happy to do it.
Go for it Sir Rowdy, you have the facts. You could maybe get someone else who was close to the action to cast their eye across the nomination too.
It doesn't matter who nominates, it is the deeds that count along with the quality of the nomination.
Ok, good idea.
Was anyone on here there at the time? Michel was anyone else kiting with you? Obviously I wasn't there.
