Kiteloops were really really really impressive back in like 2006/2007. I remember watching all the classic Ruben Adrenaline Driven internet movies back in the day. They were something special and Ruben's name came about as a result of his amazing kiteloops. All credit to him for sure. It's very admirable what Ruben has done.
Then the movies just kept on coming, and coming........ and coming. More and more riders started to make imitation kiteloop videos and eventually kiteloops just became lame.
To me kiteloops are just the same as a big boost. Fun as; but not impressive.
Watching kiteloop videos, my thought process is:
Ok kiteloop
kiteloop, slightly bigger
kiteloop, slightly lamer
kiteloop,
kiteloop, different angle
kiteloop, in sepia video effect
kiteloop, inverted colours video effect
..........................
kiteloop,
hmmmmmmmmmm
kiteloop,
then it just merges into boosts
big air boost,
boost,
....
I don't see how this is entertaining. Nowadays, a stocko kiteloop to me looks like a big air with an intense struggle at the end to land and ride away clean.
BUT!! The only epic thing in megaloops now is the megaloop unhook pass. I think that is legit!!
I think there could be some cool things to come out of megaloops, but at the moment, I'm not seeing it.
So in summary, I'll liken megaloops to the backflip in the early days of BMX. AKA the crowd pleaser. I don't know much about BMX but I think megaloops will follow the same formula. Ok so everyone frothed on the backflip back in the day, then everyone realised that anyone who's anyone on the bike can do a backflip, then the trick became lame. Now when I watch Fuel TV, I never see a stocko backflip.
Solution that made it cool: backflip variations.
Allow me to elaborate
Backflip barspin
Backflip xup
Backflip superman
Backflip barspin xup
Double backflip
So at the moment, megaloops have been done. Done. DONE!! This angle, that angle, this video effect, this slow mo. 15% time lapse, even 10% time lapse.
I know that in competition riding especially, a MASSIVE, best ever, amazingly awesome megaloop counts about as much as a stocko handle pass.
The thrill and excitement of watching stock kiteloops has long gone.
The thing is Most people that kite have got zero idea about Boardsports. It's just the way it is, kooks seem to love getting into kiting, and love even more to share their uneducated opinions with everyone.
They love to think they were around at the creation of a sport and they love to think that they can do the "pro" moves or get somewhere close...
By amping up everything that is clearly outdated and lame (kiteloops) and bashing down progression (kitelow wakestyle) they feel like they are still somewhere close to the top of the sport and can tell everybody about it.
Because at the end of the day anyone can do (or try) a kiteloop and think they are Ruben Lenten... but not everyone can even comprehende or initiate a moby dick and think they are Andre Phillip (or others)
I see the exact same thing happen at the skate park all the time, for example;
Old mate sitting next to me starts cheering everytime this guy does a big grabbed air out of the half pipe and says to me (man he must be sponsored right?)... but doesn't even say anything about the guy doing nollie heel BS nose blunts down the hubba... to him its just flippity flicks and he can't relate or understand what is happening.
(The later is clearly 100times harder and that guy can do airs all day to if he wanted.)
Luckly oldmate at the skatepark doesn't run the skate companies, but if you were to juxtaposition this against a kiteboarding scenario you could bet your left nut that oldmate runs a mag or owns a company or something... lol
In conclusion Kooks can relate to kiteloops because it's something they can see themselves doing so they get amped off it and think it's a big deal... Much like big boosts.
Unfortunetly there are more kooks than people with half a clue in this sport, and the companies and the like are run accordingly.
P.s. Still gotta give a guy credit when he goes out in gnarly sh!t like that though.
well there it is, Andy Yate's opinion which is balanced and thought provoking.
Well megaloops may be old like double handlepasses........ and then there's a try-hard saying "most people have zero idea..., kooks love to get into kiting, uneducated opinions," I dont need to go on......
No wonder you get red thumbs, they're not opinions but stupid trolling statements, as always...![]()

^^^ your so cool you prolly have your kite under water its so low... gotta figure out how to get rid of all these kooks who are stuffing the sport... maybe there should be a boardsports questionaire when you buy a kite (of course prepared by you the master) and if you fail they keep your money and tell you to piss off cause your a kook
edit: aimed at sir board sports master
another sweet len10 clip. soundtrack is smack on.![]()

Sorry I had to be the bearer of reality....
Obviously offended a few kooks i see
.
I'm just telling it how it is. Things are slowly getting better but we still have a long way to come.
Every sport goes through this stage, skating was no different, kooks used to run mags and all the pages were half rate average snaps of either thier mates or ads... same with the Company's, things have changed alot in skating since then. Kiting will get there.
p.s.
Bleed on. I wanna see some PM's.
I liked the vid....the kid rocks, but what awful weather!
It is so fascinating how he gets off doing what most people consider insane.....a good loop will aways be most interesting to watch. Passing while looping needs to pass the shoulder test...........don't know about that.
Why are people so obsessed at whether Ruben's riding is legit or not? You don't see him bitching about the wakestyle crew and whether the riding they do is legit.
Surely its about the stoke? If there is one thing I hate about the wakestyle crew is the fact that they spend more time worrying about whether a trick is "legit" or whether a rider is "legit" or whether a rider is "cool" when they should be worrying about getting out there and having fun.
im still just loving how we "the wakestyler" community got ripped up before even voicing an opinion and no one has any answers for this...
kiteloops were cool back in the day when they were fresh...
and only people that REALLY deserve full mad hectic sick skitzo respect for throwin down loops were guys like betrand and martin tryin to get over their kites (unhooked ) the whole way.. now that **** was hectic.
i also like the post
^ LOL.
Oh the drama of it all... It must have been a hectic month or so for the dangle raters.
First hadlow on the same side as me, and now Andy Yates.
Dangle raters:
"What are we to believe in now?"
"Could that annoying forum troll have been right all along?..."
"Well if he is there is no way i'm changing my tune to side with that arsehole."
BWAHAHAHA.
" oh no who is there to believe in now?!"
"HEy what about that toby guy from kiteforum, hes hectic legit and pushing the sport in a good direction"
Awesome vid IMO.
I love it when someone goes out in weather that most are crying in car park because the sand stings their face on the beach, and does some large committed moves. Can believe he is getting bagged.
I give props to anyone who even just rides in crazy storm fronts like that. I been at events where competitors have come in asking to call the event off cause it's too windy at 25 knots. Until you've ridden in TRUE 40+ knots, keep your opinions in perspective. It is farken hard!
I love riding in crazy conditions like that but don't have the balls to loop in it. I suspect most of you light weights would just get blow away!
I miss sessions like that.

What he said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Respect for going out in that craziness. Let alone pulling tricks. Let alone pulling kite loops.
it must be hard to be as good as you and your crew Rowdy. You probably kite better than most but i've found that ever since that video post on seabreeze of you got posted your head seems to be growing bigger from every post you do. I enjoy your posts as they show how much of a FIGJAM you really are. When I saw the vid of you kiting I found some respect, but since then i've realised that no amount of butter could be enough to get your big head through a standard door. Keep going though, don't stop your posts, you are making a reputaion for yourself as a toss.
On the Lenten vid now, yes I did get a little dizzy watching loop after loop, but still the guy is a freak, and no it still would not influence me on buying a slingshot kite.
hey andy, your opinion on kite loop videos is exactly the same as mine on little jumpy twirly wirly flip this way and that way pass the bar here and there videos.but i dont get all frothy in the mouth about them.the dude has nuts the size of wrecking balls. i cant do any tricks but who gives a f**k
SIR ROWDY Said - 'The thing is Most people that kite have got zero idea about Boardsports. It's just the way it is, kooks seem to love getting into kiting, and love even more to share their uneducated opinions with everyone.

I say - You'd know mate.
It never amazes me.
Different opinion --> Personal attacks
Rather than discussion, attack the post not the poster.
P.S I can see why some people aren't as stoked on loops as they were a few years ago. Evolution of equipment has totally changed the dynamics of this trick.
P.P.S dave you pretty much enter every topic and
if someone enjoys a different aspect of kiting than you, youstart carrying on about wakestyle. You rabble just as much on wakestyle than others do
about dangling, bit of a pot kettle black situation.
LOL
Some crew need to acknowledge the difference between theory and practice.
Just because Rowdy might not be the best wankstyler in the cosmos does not in any way detract from his theoretical argument on kiteboarding progression.
Never met the guy, don't know him from a bar of soap. But when you remove some of the emotion from his posts, there's a pretty coherent argument there. A path that's been walked quite a few times before in various sports.
Freeriders keep on freeriding and sharing the stoke, wakestylers keep on nipping at the heels of progression. It will all work out in the end.
