Re the trx v6 14m above. Just a quick note. There is a 5 minute pulley less bridle mod on the griffin forum. Makes the kite turn 30% faster and you get a extra 2 or 3 knots light wind and more top end. I am using the 14m 87 kg 5ft 10 surfboards with too much rocker from 13 ish knots.

What would be the top end for a 75kg guy griffin?

Good top end, i am 87kg surfboard about 18 knots or more, 75kg is alot lighter so I might guess 16-17 surfboard. with the pulley less bridle.

Ta Mate. Need a few more knots than that at the top end. Hence why I'm looking at 12 as well. That is the problem with bigger kites in gusty conditions.

Had the 15 out in low 20's no probs so 13 would go a fair bit more i would say youd be sweet to 25,also TRX will go way higher with a tt or wave, best to make a shortlist and demo all if poss as you may want something that flies completely different to me.

Yeh man starting to narrow it down. Haven't heard from any bandit riders yet. Oh well. Trx 14 might be an option. Not interested in the Peter Lynn.

well i advised you against the 13m edge. but last week session on my new mutant has changed my mind a bit. i really enjoyed it. boosty glidy on the way out and upwind wave riding on the way back in. it was lots of fun.

then the wind pulled up so i put the 10m c4 and didn't have as much fun!.

So if you can scam a demo of one do it. it may suit your style.....

My fav kite for 2012 a 17m Ozone edge - amazing on a free ride - race type set up - 6 knots to 18 knots - very lite construction - super easy to fly - pretty quick to turn - flys in 2-3 knots of wind - gets me on water at least another 100 days over season.

Hey Eppo,
I have the Gaastra 14, albeit the 2008, but it is a sweet ass kite. Tons of power, soaks up gusts and can go out in 25 kts easy but you gotta have it set right. I added some pig tails to the rear lines and attatch above the pigtails on the front for avg 20 kt days. And I'll use 20 m lines to contain the power also. But unlike my revs the Gaastra is a very slow turning kite, even at these upper wind ranges but this may be one reason it doesn't get freaked out by gusts. . or maybe 'cause I've choked the grunt out of it by this stage but it is smmmmmooth and the air with this kite is massive compared to the 11m revs. Mind you every air I ever chucked was by accident, but this kite freaked me out with the height. I imagine their latest release would have a lot of this DNA but be better at turning. Relaunch is a peace of cake too.
Hope this helps a bit

Yeh mate that is great info. Another guy from the kiteforum said the same thing, also he said it does turn slow. Too big for me gonna go a 12, either lithuim or bandit haven't decided it. Cheers anyhow.

... hey Eppo, put the Blade Fatlady 17m on your list.

I know its a 17m but it doesn't feel like one at all and I think it would be great in the waves as its nice and fast but with really easy steering. Not the ultimate in light wind power ala Dyno style that is parked, and just pull the bar. I found you need wind it up a bit to get really light wind performance out of it.

The Fatlady felt like one of the easiest kites I've tried in a long time and is more like a 14m than a 17m.

Good luck in your quest.

cheers,

Robbie

another idea. keep an 10m 11m maybe and use that 90% of the time and go for a biggest kite you can find! the desparation kite. Ok itl turn like shiite but yourl be kiting when everyone is twiddling there thumbs on the beach. when the wind clicks past 16 dive back into the fast kite. usually sub 15 knots you need a powehouse of a kite to make it fun.

15m north dyno?

Yeh used a 16m in Bali, tony was good enough to lend me his. Really good kite, flew very much like my recently sold rebel ( for a ridiculous price to my brother, bloody family, lol) but flies forward much quicker. Probably too much for me and it turns too slow for my liking. But for what is it a fantastic kite. Typical north feel and typical north quality.

I have a 16m dyno and 14m 2012 rebel and weigh 82 kg with sector 52 . Still getting head around dyno but would rather use the rebel if it flies . If it flies (8kts) then it will get the board going but dont blow it and put the kite in the water .
2012 14 is much quicker than the 2010 which it replaced - its a very different kite using its speed to generate power rather than aspect .Have a bit of fun in the waves in light conditions when everyone is sitting on the beach too

...yep, and had wind every day since your short visit . One really good day too where we used small kites, Oka point was going off with well over head waves.

Back on subject, the Fatlady is an amazingly easy kite to use and so not a 17m metaphorically speaking as it acts way smaller than the number on the side suggests. It does have a small leading edge with really thin struts but it looks built enough to pump to high pressure and give it a strong frame.

I personally haven't tried it in waves yet but the way it flew for me it ooozes waves too me!

Have fun checking out a bunch of kites!

cheers,

Robbie

yo eppo if your open to all sugestions when i was at sanur the was only me and a wainmann team rider out kiting due to the winds, he was on the big mama , we swapped kites , nice kite didnt have the constant pull of the zephyr but a quick kite for its size , looks well put together but pretty pricey , we both had a ball on the break straight out from the beach entrance, did a big downwinder at the weekend on the zephyr i know its cruel but the is no better feeling kiting past kites sat on the beach waiting for enough wind and getting looks of total disgust from the owners

I have a 12 mtr switchblade

pro
-great low end in light wind
-Good apparent wind
-build qlty

cons
-heavy bar
-slow in the turns

The 2013 are out and they are a lot faster in the turns "saw it in action" and i hear there very light on he bar "not had a ride yet"

Might be worth a demo!

Iv only been ridding for 20 mths but am often out with the 17's on my 12. PS 90 kgs.

OK OK 94kg's
