This has gotta be the most exciting adventure I have ever been associated with.
Check it out.
Kite Surf SUP are looking to put in 2 teams in from WA. Kiters are invited to apply for the kite leg by contacting me on 0430 966 397.
Also looking for Mountain Bikers & Runners for legs 1 & 3.
I will be putting a dedicated page on our website with details of how to apply & what will be involved.
Sit down ..... Seat belt on...... and plug in this linkhttp://www.5thelementexpeditions.com/events/expedition-x-files/ecare1000-kite-bike-hike/
Wow, hell of an adventure. Get on it guys, this will be something you look back on for the rest of your life.
I recently trekked 1000km so I know this kind of adventure can change your life. Its well worth it. And for a good cause, you could change someone else life too.
Is that at all connected to the organisation that got all those people burnt in the bushfires in the Northwest, doing a marathon or something.
It was on Australian Story or 4 corners or something....
@ the Walks (snr & jnr)
We are also doing 8 days off Simbawa on a fully rigged old wooden sailing ketch about the same time.
Skipper with 16 yrs experience in finding waves for paddle-in guys. Might be one for you to look at ![]()
i enjoyed the statement "can't kite? we'll train you!"
So they are prepaired to thow up to 20 newbies on a 200km ocean crossing?
very silly.
it should read "can't kite? Fark off until your good"
Other that it looks amusing. mountain biking in 30+ degrees for 700km doesn't sound like much fun.
PS i'm a better mountain biker than i am a kitesurfer.
that would have to be the shxttest thing I have ever seen advertised. If I wanted to ride a mountain bike for 6 days, I can, If I want to hike for a day, I can, why on earth would I want to kite through UBER choppy, Mega currenty sharky and crocky water for two days for $3500?
Some people need stuff like this so they can puff their chest out at a Barby and say how awesome they are. If you have ever been to TI, you would know kiting between Islands would be most unejoyable. But there are enough germans out there that will love this crap. go for it I say euro tools.
heres a thought, take that money, spend it on an awesome boat charter in PNG with in the loop or goto Cocos or Kitsurfari, Kite in pristine conditions, and then relax afterwards
personally i think the idea is cool. The price is completely rediculous!
Also it appears to be geared more to the mountain biker. 700km of biking only 200 of kiting? you can easiliy kite as far as mountain biker each day.
but i love this adventure stuff there needs to be more events like it. perhaps abit more realistic. An epic downwinder for hundres of km down the aus coastline hitting endless surf breaks would be sweeter.
Just to clarify - this is strictly a not for profit event.
KSS involvement is also a no gain venture. KSS wont be receiving any money at all. Its all about the stoke - and of course about wanting to puff out my chest at the next BBQ

The proceeds are to help ECare build an orphanage in Lae. These are the people who saved hundreds of Aussie lives on the Kokoda Trail during WW2. Want to read about them - google 'fuzzy wuzzy angels'. Good cause to support.
The KSS wrecking yard will be sending all donations to this charity while this coral crossing is on our calendar of events.
Dont know what uv got against Germans myusername but I reckon your take on the area is way off. All reports indicate awesome kiting conditions at that time of year and it has been thoroughly checked out by the QLD based organisers.
Yah I emailed yesterday so should hear back tomorrow I guess.
Shame it wasnt later, I will be up there on one of In The Loops boat trips end of August
Sounds like an epic! Great trip!
But I hope they require a bit more than the "some knowledge and flying time" for kiters.
Also I hope the support cost is not "optional"
Lol at their wind / kite gear synopsis: 2 kites to cover winds from "12-40 knots range daily" - sure
Ive looked at the cost in the light of the inevitable criticisms Id get here.
It does seem to be; and is; a lot of bikkies for a few days but consider:
- fly out emergency guarantee
- lead boat and sweep boat
- 1 to 5 ratio jet ski support ie 4 jetski's with qualified drivers
- fly in fly out from Cairns
to mention just a few of the big ticket costs.
Forget the jokes about 'training you to kite'. The kite leg is by application only and all applicants will be thoroughly screened to ensure every place getter is up to the task which is in no way being under-rated.
To me its an adventure of a lifetime. One not to be missed regardless of cost.
As mentioned this is a not for profit, charity driven event which is being organised by a very experienced team of extreme adventurers.
Yeh Leighton to Lano would be good except for emergency landings. May end up with a big walk to the road.
Good thinking on the warnings.
Might look at Mandurah to Shoalwater - what does the jury say on that option.
About that Garden Is bridge ? Every time I see I think "could it be done?"
Big speed run - kite low - cut close to an upwind pillar? Hmmmmmmm
Definitely irresponsible but .........
