Just wondering what people do to keep up or progress their board skills during winter/offseason (if you live in QLD)
Some I have dreamt up:
1. Skateboarding (ive found this real easy to hurt yourself)
2. Cable Ski (pretty much weekends only)
3. Snowboarding (if you dont live near a mountain then its holidays only)
4. Landboarding (with no kite, just down hills - again difficult and easy to kill yourself)
5. Wakeboarding (hard unless you have a boat or know someone with one)
6. Dune boarding (pretty inconsistent but fantastic if you like a mouth full of sand)
Any more suggestions so that I can not look like a pleb next season?
Ummmmm,,,keep kiteing?
Last winter the longest we went without a kite on the east coast was 1 1/2 weeks.
Was better than summer thats for sure.
Bring on the Southerlies,,,,,get a heap more swell with the S,SE,SW winds too![]()
If its like last winter,,,BRING IT ON
There was a kiting simulator on here once might be worth searching. Even had a fan for wind. Otherwise yeah go kiting or head north. Nth Qld season only just beginning.
Would also like a cable park in Perth...
i live on a river in the hills, gonna tie a wake board rope to a tree, and try and ride that!! otherwise will get my buddy to tow me up the beach behind the 4x4
You will find cable parks are pretty expensive. If you know someone with a tinny you could learn to wakeskate or use it to hit some rails. Or I think the best option is learning to skateboard, use can do it anywhere anytime and it makes everything else seem easy.
Or you can bolt a pair of ski boots to ya skateboard and practice your flickie spinnie stuff.![]()
Boots make it easier to land any trick, takes way less skill to pretend your wakeboarding.![]()

Kiters in the waves are now putting boots on their surfboard so they can cheat as well.![]()
Wakeboarders have started putting really high attachment poles on the back of their boats in a mocking way.![]()

go to cairns, not townsville, (its a windless hole). It is dry and looks promising for wind. The rain has stopped. Could be in for a long dry tradewind season.
me too what happened to the spearwood one?

Try some cross training, a martial arts like kick boxing or judo.
It will keep you fit and agile over winter and you increase flexability and stamina.
lots of personal reasons why the perth cable closed.
in regards to re opening every spot they approached council about got rejected because of "preserving the wildlife" / building more houses on. its not a cheap thing to start thats for sure, but i think out back of waneroo or near the hills would be the go for sure, i dont mind driving an hour to hit a day at cable.. at one point they said bunbury buts thats a bit of a piss take and is too far.
What were the estimates to get it going Charl. I have spare money just lying around everywhere getting in the way, need to ofload.
It has to be in perth, bunbury just wouldnt get the nembers u would think
Ten ur bang on massive market and growing, lots more crew into kiting creates tons more business when no wind
Forcast migration to Perth is huge too
Charl what was behind the closure, was it making money?
Whenever i went there always seemed pretty quiet.
I really miss getting dragged round the Uk cable with hailstones smashing u in the face
I love Australia the best place on earth(especially WA)
Would be worth talking to the WA Waterski Association at Burswood. Im sure they would help push for a cable park.
