Our team is currently working through the applications and you’ll be hearing from us before the 1st of December as to whether you're one of the 50 competitors to take on the 19 kilometer challenge across the Gage Road.

So some people are getting told on the 29th, some people are getting told before the 1st, and some people have already been told. I wonder how that works?

As a Redbull rider I got told a week ago so pretty sure everyone else will find out soon. I'm told that most places will go to WA and SA riders. Good luck, fingers crossed.

Hi there,

Due to the small field of only 50 competitors, selected from nearly 200 applications, we are unfortunately unable to offer you a start in this year's Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton kite race.

If for any reason an applicant from our first round selection is unable to compete, there will be the opportunity for second round offers. We will be sure to contact you if we are able to offer you a spot.

We thank you for your interest this year and we look forward to seeing you down on Leighton Beach to the 11th December to join in the festivities at the finish.

Sincerely,

The Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton Team

Feel a little awkward about posting this but, Hell yeah, got a spot...

They say that you need to sort your own transport to Rotto...Can you even buy a one way ticket ;)

Wonder about equipment (Pumps etc) that need to be brought back?

Bring on 11th Dec

Might I suggest that anyone making an illegal crossing on the same day as the L2L will be putting in jeopardy WAKSA's chances of being permitted to run it again next year, with potentially more starting positions.

According to this

http://www.redbull.com.au/cs/userfiles/file/Red%20Bull%20Lighthouse%20to%20Leighton%20FAQ_s_26112010.pdf

Got to supply and wear your own PFD
Plus there is a free ferry at 10am for competitors.

Thanks PR.

PFD... Is there actually a PFD rated vestjacket for kiting? I know theres some vests that are similar to pfds but not rated.

I've tried a PFD 3 ski jacket before and it didnt fit with a harness.

It actually doesnt say that kiters must wear PFDs it says that they must provide their own PFDs, maybe they are just stating that Redbull wont provide PFDs.

WAKSA...can you clarify?

Skinner

You will be required to wear a PFD for L2L. Plain & simple. There are some stringent safety/risk mgmt issues we have had to ensure for this event which include PFDs and the provision of a significant number of safety boats. Safety boats will be on hand as the fleet kites back to Leighton as an additional safety measure.

Quite simply, PFDs are non-negotiable. We acknowledge that it may not be everyone's preference but we want to make sure this event runs smoothly and safely so that the event can be run again, bigger and better in the future.

WAKSA.
